i found a really good college that i'm going to be attending as soon as i get out of high school. It is called stephens college. it is in columbia Missouri. You can major and minor in all types of equine things. and, you can board a horse there for only 375 a month. you get to ride everyday, and have your own horse. I"m going to be majoring in equine science. i'm so excited for college now.

That's so exciting!!!

I'm a little jealous. In high school I wanted to something with horses too, but kinda of gave it up as to other such grown up things.

What kind of programs do they offer and what do you want do do with your degree when your done? Do they offer a B.S. or just certificates?

Stephens College is an excellent and competitive school, fully accredited for Bachelor's degrees that mostly stress arts and sciences, but also offer Bachelor and Graduate degrees in things like Business and Law in cooperation with the University of Missouri. It's officially a women's college, but meeting guys would not be difficult since you share courses with the University of Missouri. And their Equine program, which includes several different majors, is second to none! Good choice! I don't blame you for being excited.

Wow, good college indeed. I just graduated with my B.A., and am now in the process of interviewing for jobs. None of them horsey related unfortunately.

I might have to google Stephens college and see what it's all about. It's been awhile since I looked at horses as a profession.

my mom is also really excited about it too, because she won't have to care for my horse while i'm in college, and i won't have to lease my horse out...but it wouldn't be a bad thing to lease him out as it would give me some money.

No, I live in Washington now, but I actually considered Stephens College way back when I was applying to colleges. I ended up going to the University of Massachusetts, both colleges have way better equine programs now than they did back in 1979.

Maybe when you get there, you could look into saving some money by half-leasing your horse to someone else you trust who is also enrolled in the Equine program. Like, if you're more into riding, you could half-lease your horse to someone who is pre-vet, or the other way around. You'd have time to concentrate on your studies while never having to worry about the care your horse is getting. You, your horse and your leasing/study partner would all benefit!

How exciting! Good luck, and good choice for your education.
