Hey it's me again lol.
I am soon to be married to my boyfriend, and His sister I concider to be my sister. she's ten years old and she wants a good horse. she wants a layed back horse. She dosen't want anything higher then 15.3 hands. Of course I think the talleset she'll be is like 5'5 or 5'6 around my height I'm about 5'8 or so. Um... Her mother wants her to have a horse she can have the rest of her life. I don't think that's such a great Idea. I've seen alot of people have there young kids riding a horse WAY to big for them. My father says Size is not as important as the attitude of rider an dhorse. He's right on that one. But... Any ideas?
She want's a Qh or something. Her mom wont allow an Arabian, she says Arabians are to high strong.
My sis wants a say in it, but she has no say. So what type of horse would be good for a greenhorn ten year old?

if it were me telling someone, i wouldnt be "prejudice" i guess you could say against anyone type of horse. if seen Quarter horses worse then thoroughbreds and arabians. it all depends on the horse itself you could get yourself a well broke bomb proof arabian or even a quarterhorse. she really she should take lessons first to make sure its something she wants. better yet have her lease a horse somewhere and see if you could get lessons included in the lease. seeing as shes 10 yrs old her mind might change once she sees how much work having a horse really is. its not all about the riding, theres more to it than that. hopefully that helps.

The breed really doesn't matter. It's the personality, disposition and level of training the horse has.

Look for well, well, well broke horses, and something in it's mid to late teens would be a good choice because age inevitably mellows a horse.

Even older horses. If her parents are scared of a high strung horse, she could get a horse well over 10 years old and be great. They may be a little older, and some can be a little less energetic, but there are some better and as energetic as the young horses.
