Heard of it? It's a great blog that I read practically everyday about the good and bad things of....horses. It faces issues that are the truth of the horse industry and I've learned so much more from just reading it. Not to mention, sometimes you get a chance to help a horse in need that you didn't know about until after reading the post. Please, give it a try! http://fuglyhorseoftheday.blogspot.com/
This is so sad, but so true. If these horses were dogs or cats, most of them would end up being mass-euthanized by Animal Control. Since they are horses, they or their progeny end up in the hands of "Rescues" (animal hoarders in reality)and eventually sold to Mexico or starved to death. People, GELD YOUR COLTS! DON'T breed your mares! There's no reason to own a stallion unless you are a professional breeder, your stallion has been approved by your breed registry and you have technology (such as the ability to collect semen and ship it) and marketing skills to advertise your stallion's performance experience--because he's been trained by professionals and has a record of total soundness and achievement in horse shows. If you insist on breeding your mare, only breed her to one of these stallions (not your neighbor's QH/Appy/Paint/Morgan ungelded colt),and only if your mare has no soundness issues and you have plans for the foal that include keeping him for his lifetime.
Exactly why I recomend it to every horse person I know. There is so much 'crap' out there that nothing is selling. For anyone out there who thinks they can make a living breeding horses, THERE IS NO MONEY IN HORSES. I can't stress that enough.
