Blah, blah, blah. Are there risks to having gastric bypass surgery? Yep, you bet. Is it possible that you will die? Yep, you bet. But what are the chances of dying if you do not get the weight under control? Significantly higher than the risks of dying from the bypass if you have chosen a good surgeon and you follow directions after surgery.
Why is it that when someone has a cancerous tumor that needs to be removed, no one ever mentions mortality rates. Perhaps because they need the surgery to survive? My obesity was killing me. For me, it was my cancerous tumor. Even if the true stats were 10/100 die from the surgery, I would have made the same choice. Those of us that have had WLS know the risks, and decided that living with our obesity related illnesses were far greater risks to our health. THE LEADING (not the 3rd)cause of death in the US is Heart Disease (National Center for Health Stats). Many obese have life threatening heart disease. Look it up! Also you may want to check out exactly how digestion occurs after a gastric bypass. It does not bypass the entire small intestine. Do your research before you make generalizations! Rachel
