Hi WLS Family:
I have been reading all of your responses to the WLS. I am scheduled for my RNY on Sept 12th! My BMI is 58 I am 5'2. I have so many mixed emotions, from happy to scared. This is my last chance for a new life. I have always been overweight since the age of 13. 2 years ago I got bit by a spider. It took 8 months for the wound to heal, and I developed bi-lateral lymphedema. I have to connect to a machine every night to pump my fluid back up through my body. I am too young (40ish)
I have continued to gain weight due to inability to exercise. I am hoping that two weeks off from work will be enough time for me to heal and feel comfortable to drive.
Can any of you tell me your experiences with healing and what I can expect after surgery?
Thanks,

How are you Doing?? DId you have your Weight Loss Surgery Yet? I am a new member of this Big Medicine Forum and i read your post--I want you to know that i am praying for you. I had my Open RNY on 2/6/07 and i have lost 96 pounds since and a total of 164 since i started the GI Nutrition Program in Feb 2006--i use to weigh 448 lbs now i am down to 284 lbs and i have more to go--i had a rough start ==but i healed up wonderfully and am doing well--I am diabetic and i had to have my big toe amputated last year due to a blister and a nasty infection in the bone--Just do what your doctor tells you and keep your mind set on your new life and your new way of eating and living.
I too could not exercise and still not much cause i have neuropathy in my legs--tho i am trying to walk more it is hard--i am mostly in a wheel chair still and still on insulin in my insulin pump.
Prayers to you--SUSIE S. from PA

Lisa,

When I had lap RNY on Sept. 27, 2005, I was back at work, driving myself, in just under two weeks. My surgery went very smoothly, no leaks were found post op, and I went home two days after surgery. I found it to be very important to be up, walking around as soon as I could. I have had a wonderful experience, and have just had some excess skin removed with plastic surgery.

Email me at kimvalera@hotmail.com if I can be of help!

Kim
