Hello all. My name is Michelle and I had my surgery on 8/22/06. I had the RNY procedure. I am now a little over a year and a half out. My weight before the surgery was 283 lbs @ 5'4. Obviously my height hasnt changed but I now weight 123 lbs. I have lost 160lbs total to date. I see where people are curious about the loose skin. I also have that problem however everyone that I see at my support group says either I hide it very well or I just dont have that much. The method that seemed to have worked for me is exercise. I have never been one to be that active, hence the reason I was 100lbs overweight, but as soon as the doctor cleared me for walking I never looked back. I am now in the gym 6 days a week. I am training for 2 5k marathons this year and I feel amazing. Please keep in mind for anyone going through this just because you lose the weight that is only half of the battle. You will always see yourself as an obese person and thats okay. I belive that is a very good motivator. One thing that I have found is that no matter how much weight you lose, how much you work out you will still have those self body issues. I realize that may sound silly coming from someone who went from a size 24 to a 4 but its real. I am very proud of what i have accomplished and I wouldnt trade it for the world. Be proud of what you have done and will continue to do but also remember that the surgery is just a tool. It is up to you to get the most out of it. Thank you for listening.
WOW that is so great, I just had my RNY 3 days ago, and I was very sad to see I had gained 6 lbs while in the hospital, my friend said it is because of the fluids they pumped into me, I am 5'3" and was 236 when I had the sergery, I can't wait till the day, when I can say I have lost 100 lbs. Thank you for sharing, I needed some encouragement.
I am so glad that you are okay I had to have surgery 3 hours after I was born because I have hydrocepalitisIt is where you have to much fluid in your brain and you have to get a shunt with tubeing and it sucks all of the fluid out of your brain.I can not play contact sports.
