Dave, I remember you mentioned that you liked the shots that were done in the water tank story. Well my current favs are the tram episode.
The scenes are incredible. Sorry you are not good with wobbling heights. I'm not great with them either.
But the pictures were spectacular in HD. I loved the one taken from inside the tram when you all were first riding up. You can see the helicopter in the distance, even with the tram in the sky.
Was your brother-in-law flying the copter? And who was doing the camera work in there, Doug?
Excellent show.

I agree Kathy, and I don't even have HD. I can only imagine how much more intense it must be.
Dave, I was feeling your pain. I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the beauty of it all, I would be wishing it was over and my feet back on steady ground.
Troy, troy, troy, you're one brave and crazy guy. Don't know how you filmed up there, but the shots were literally breath taking.
Mike, too much man. For sure.
Great show.

I loved the shot when Mike took a bow and showing Troy on top of the tram. Whew! I do not have HDTV but wow.
Hey Judy! (((waves at Judy)))

Heights don't really bother me so I was able to enjoy the tram episode fully. Magnificent, breathtaking, etc. etc.
But I do have a question:
How do you keep the helicopter and wind noise out of the microphones?

Dear, dear Dave...I share your fear of heights!
While visiting my brother in WA we visited the waterfall (at Snoqualmie Pass) that was used as the backdrop for Twin Peaks. The observation deck was surrounded by what looked like chicken wire (I'm sure it was more substantial), but I could only look "out" at the falls, and not "down". And only then, from the center of the platform, not the edge.
I agree with Kathy and the others about the spectacular camera work. I have to admit I was paying more attention to the "sights" than to Mike during this episode. Even if he was too much man...!
It was asked how the helicopter noise is kept out of the audio; but I wondered how Troy kept from being blown off that tower by the wash from the 'copter?? He hardly has enough weight to keep him grounded!

Lots of questions. I thought I could hear just a bit of the copter noise in the background.
How far away does it stay so Troy doesn't get a chapped face from all the propeller wind?
Seriously, the pictures are incredible. Mike and the worker are as crisp as a piece of cracklin on my screen. Plus I never had that sense of too much rushing past on the screen which sometimes happens on my HD TV.
When the fish net was pulled up onto the deck of the fish processing boat is an example of when the whole scene became blurry because of the movement past the camera.
Oh, and was that the sound man up there with Troy? How the heck does that work?
Absolutely awesome.

I finally found the time last night to watch the episode.
Incredible!!! I even has sweaty palms waching Mike and Troy and all the crew on the tower. Jeepers, what won't you guys do for a shot.
The helicopter footage was intense. The place looks beautiful.
Forgive my stupidity but, what does one do once they reach the top? I know nothing of Palm Springs.

Me, too!!! Glad I wasn't the only one. I was very nervous for everybody. Even my husband commented "Poor Barsky" when Mike made fun of him for not enjoying the ride up the mountain in the tram. But, the effort in capturing the beauty of the landscape was definitely noted by our family. GREAT JOB! Sarah

Rogers Cable here up north, brings me Dirty Jobs on Mondays but mostly the much delayed episodes. Thanks to Judypearl, I now get to watch snippets of the latest.
Yes, I too was of the opinion that the shots for this Tram episode were spectacular! Kinda like James Bond choreography, direction and macho 007 - dirty boy Mike, suspended by a cable, hanging on top of the suspended cable car, and some 8000 ft above the Rocky Mountains!
And watching Dave, Doug and Eddy perched atop the suspended tin platform with heavy equipment, equally awesome in getting the best visual to us. Further, aerial shot from Budgy the Helicopter tops the majestic beauty and dirty jobs best captured on film. Thank God for the safety of the crew in such dangerous setting.
Congratulations Mike, Dave, Doug, Ed, crew and Discovery!
BTW - Dave, when are we going to get to see more 'Mike has Mails'? Congrats again for winning the Webby Award. Good job!

Liz, I live about 25 minutes from Snoqualmie Falls and have been there many times! Yes, it is scary to look down. Several people have fallen or jumped to their deaths there. You can take a path to get down to the base of the falls, but it is too rigorous for me. I don't know when you were there, but there is a nice little park there now and the lookou, is very substancial. Ahh, Twin Peaks, wacky show but fun.

Jenny, I'm laughing because you are right! Very "Bond-ish". Sal *in best low British voice* "Mike.......Mike Rowe"
