I'm thinking there are a couple others on here that are tech geeks like myself. I am currently a videographer/Editor for a fishing and hunting television series.
I absolutely love it when you guys show behind the scenes stuff and show the camera guys working and doing their thing. As I mentioned above I am kinda of a tech geek and like to see what different shows are using for production equipment.
I know that you use DVCPro HD cameras. (Not sure which model: HDX900 or the Varicam?) And you use Lectrosonics wireless mics. And Dave uses his trusty Sony Z1U.
I was wondering if it would be possible to get a short little list of a couple other things that you guys use? I was wondering if the lights you use are LitePanels? If so which model? How do you record your audio, on tape or externally. If you are mic'ing more than two people do you use a 4 channel adapter on the camera to input 4 seperate tracks. Do you just mic 2 people and do the rest with a boom mic? Would it be possible to have a little picture diagram of how you adapt a 40 cent black garbage bag into a camera cover?
Those are just a couple little things that I wonder about when watching the show. Thanks for any response.

The soap opera I watch has just gone to filming with hand held cameras. Their filming is nothing compared to Dirty Jobs. There are scenes that are badly lit and others too bright. The sound is awful, way too quiet or like they are in a barrel. Dirty Jobs always looks great and the sound is perfect. I wish you could show them the ropes Dave!

I thought that Discovery produces in 1080i? wouldn't that make the Varicam useless. The HDX900 must be a great camera. A 3 2/3" ccds, camera that doesn't produce a picture that is overly sharp. Panasonic makes the best cameras on the market.
