When I'm not on effexor, I'm depressed, but I feel "hornier" and sometimes I even get up and have been masturbating in my sleep. I don't feel that much like sex, but I make it somewhat of a chore for my husband's sake. Unfortunately it becomes just another chore, although at the end, 50 % of the time I enjoy it also, and have orgasms. I've heard welbutrin doesn't affect it, but that it doesn't work as good as effexor for depression.

An old boyfriend of mine took effexor and it certainly did affect him. He had no problem gaining an erection, but the interest wasn't there so much, and he had a very hard time reaching orgasm.

It is a well known fact that antidepressants are libido killers. You would have to do some research to determine if there are some brands of antidepressants that have a better effect on libido. You are quite correct that when you take an antidepressant the interest is sex all but dries up and the ability to orgasm is poor.

I was on effexor and had the same problem. I have tried paxil, prozac, and others that I can't remember. I am currently on wellbutin XL (not the XR) and it is doing a good job. I have a sex drive and the depression is usually under control. Are you on birth control? I found that when I went off of bc, it made a huge difference! Good luck!

I take Effexor XR, but I have been taking it since I was young. I have a very high sex drive, but I can never cum unless I am alone (I am a male). Has anyone else had this problem while taking Effexor?

I know this post is old but had to reply to it since I am also on Effexor XR. I had sexual side effects for about 3 weeks and then they went away. I think my side effects weren't that bad. I was intrested in sex but no matter how hard I tried I could not have an orgasm. Like I said that only lasted about 3 weeks but the doctor said that it could last any where from 3-6 weeks. If it had been more than the 6 weeks I would talk to your doctor about it and maybe tje doc would change meds to something else.

i have a question...not necessarily about Effexor the drug, more about where I can purchase it. I figured since you are all using it you must be able to recommend a good place to get it. Right now I am thinking about calling a online pharmacy for the ease of just having it sent to me.
