Ahh where to start This episode was pretty good. a great ending to the season. A sad season, though, it was I knew episodes ago, that Maybelline wouldn't stay put. She was meant to lead, so she started her own group and seck "the heck with this" to RD I was so scared for the little pups when they ran into the Zappa though. See how young they were? days old! Another thing i didn't get was how could Zaphod be let back in after he left AND met a rival Kat. Wouldn't he smell of that one? I also got astins joke "maybe it's Maybelline" did you? ;p With 4 groups on each others paws now, it'll be a hard wait to season 4

Thanks Mod-Kelly for finally getting this in here. I'll post what I posted before regarding this episode:
I gotta say, Hooray for Lola! For saving those pups. I hate when I have to view the Whiskers as the bad guys. I only have to wonder if ALL of the pups were saved.

who is the man?? Zaphod is, he put his family needs before him thats a mans man babe.i will tell you even thought flower is gone let her rip in peace, she should be proud of her daughters rocketdog and mabelline they are very strong minded, did you see maybelline take charge and just overpowered the zappa gang, maybe the zappa gang didnt fight because of there pups but still maybelline did not back down one bit, she was like punk this is my land move on and by the way if you dont know me my name is Maybelline and i am here to stay....

Yes this was a good ending to the season. Both RD and Maybeline are going to do great things next season! I think I got myself confused reading all the chats, I thought something else terrible was going to finish off the season. Lola is great too! I think Sean said all the pups were saved thanks to her. I can't wait for next season!

i just looked at the kmp august report under aztecs they have down monkulus (vwf063)as DF, so i guess maybelline real name is monkulus. things that make you go mmmmmmmmmm..

Yes, I'm old enough to get the joke of "Maybe it's Maybelline."
And you could see this coming. The Whiskers were too large at 50+. And you had two females fighting for dominance. The answer? Split and each becomes a DF. And that's what happened.
Now we know who the Aztecs are. And I doubt the two factions of Whiskers will reunite, as they did with Flower and Daisy during the temporary split.

I was so happy not to see any deaths at the end of this episode. My heart stopped for a few minutes when the both groups were sizing each other up. I was just praying nothing would happen to either set of pups and thank God that Lola rescued the newborn pups. Go Lola! Gotta love the "maybe it's Maybelline" joke.

Maybelline has proven to be a better leader than Rocket Dog. (Remember how RD ran from the first 'battle', then she decided to fight?)I'm much more impressed w/Maybelline. I wish this season still had a couple of episodes left, so we could see how the Aztecs are doing. BTW, when does the next season start, so I don't miss anything?

I was impressed with Lola.Saving the pups. Rocketdog is struggling but,I'm sure her great, wonderful leader/mom Flower had it rough the first year of DF.It's a braking in period.I think she will do wonderful. I belive Maybelline will great as DF she seems very tough and strong as her mother was.The Whiskers were getting a little too big.Maybe a split will benifit them.Remember this isn't the first split. However the one is perment unlike the others.I wonder who is collared? Maybelline or the DM.Does anyone know how this is determined who of the two is collared?
I was happy no one died.I'm not sure when the new season starts if it goes anything like this season it'll be Aug-2008. A lonnngggg wait. We have the movie to look forward to.And all the reruns. I thought it very kind to keep Mozarts name on the line -up on the intro instead of removing her name like she didn't exsist. The same with Flower, her name is still mentioned in the opening ,very cool to remember her in these small ways.

I'm glad the split happened the way it did, dividing into groups of more or less equal sizes will increase the chances of survival for all. The Whiskers group was getting way too large. I can't help but think that if Flower was still alive, the split may have happened anyway only with a smaller "splinter" group that would have had a much more difficult time. I wouldn't want to watch another group go through what the Starksys did. Thank goodness for Lola taking care of the pups the way she did.

Anyone know which group Mitch is with? I'm a little disappointed they didn't mention all of the major players and who they were with. This is the season finale for Pete's sake. If I'm going to spend some time without the meerkats, I need to know where they are. Oh well, I suppose that's the cliffhanger.
BTW, the more I see of Sophie, the more I like her. She doesn't get the recognition she deserves.

I was so relieved to see the season end the way it did. Lola-you go girl! It was so nice to see her rescue the pups even after Punk took away her DF status. It looks like Lola has some of that caring instinct that Mozart had. I'm really looking forward to season 4. Can't wait to see what is happening with Mitch and Axle.

Really happy to see Rocket Dog still in charge. Wondering where Mitch is and in what group he ended up. Mabelline sure kicked some butt, huh? Sorry the Whiskers had to split, but I knew it was going to happen. So many have passed away this season. So sad. I will forever miss Flower, Carlos, Len & Squiggy and of course our little Mozart. I felt a little like her these past few days...logging on and only viewing what everyone was saying and not being able to reply to anyone. Still having way too much trouble logging in.

I was thinking the same thing about Lola. In her I saw a glimpse of Mozart and am hoping we see more of Lola in season 4. I also agree that Sophie isn't getting the recognition she deserves. Correct me if I am wrong (so many different opinions that I am now getting confused) but I do believe Sophie is Mozart's daughter and I'm hoping she lives up to her Mother's memory.

You are right Sophie is the daughter of Mozart and she definitely has her mothers caring ways.
I'm glad that Maybelline decided to split from RD, personally I think that Maybelline would make a better DF. She's tough like Flower yet she has the caring ways of Mozart. No way was she going to let anyone get in her way of looking out for the best interest of her pups.
In some ways I hope they stay split so that Maybelline gets the opportunity to prove herself as DF, yet I'm also worried that the Aztecs will be fighting with the Whiskers for territory and that would've never happened if Flower was still around. Remember when Flowers group split from the others, not once did they fight for territory with the remaining Whiskers. When they met up for a fight once they recognized each other they chose to snuggle and groom each other instead. Would that be the case between RD and Maybelline? I don't think so because both females are so determined to be DF of their group.
I tried posting on here last night but I couldn't get a pop up box to reply, and when I did it then triggered me for who knows what.
I hope they get this board fixed because it took me 3 hours yesterday and all afternoon today just to get logged in.
In closing I really didn't like the way the season ended, it really didn't leave you wondering enough to want to tune into season 4. As I said before I'm on the fence about watching season 4, the only kats I'm interested in are Zaphod, Sophie and Mitch. But I really don't want to watch them die off in season 4. I guess I like so many others need a break from MM, so many needless deaths. I can only wait and see how my emotions check out and see if my heart can take another season of MM.

Meerkata,
I completely agree with you but I know me. As torn as I am now I will not be able to keep from watching next season. We still have Zaphod, Sophie and Mitch to watch over. I just cannot desert them no matter what happens. I learned that from Mozart...you stay with the ones you love regardless of the outcome.
And, I would like to see more of Lola. She also reminds me a little of Mozart and I think she is a good girl even though she is a Zappa.
As for RD and Maybelline, I was sorry so see the Whiskers split but it may be for the best. Flower split them for a while to help the mob survive and ensuring the survival of such a big mob for an inexperienced DM like RD would be very hard. I am rooting for RD and Maybelline as I think they both have the potential of being good in they own way.
Took me most of the day to get on and once I did I have not logged off for fear of not being able to get back on. I have to log off now as I have to work tomorrow and must get some sleep.

You're right Mozart always stood by the side of those in need, irregardless of how they treated her. So I too will stand by Zaphod, Sophie and Mitch, I just pray that none of them will die I don't think, my heart can take any more deaths especially theirs.
I too am afraid to log off for fear of not being able to get back in. This board is what keeps me sane, can you imagine going to a counselor to talk about the feelings that we are experiencing from watching the show. They'd probably lock us up in a nut house.
Well it was nice talking with you tonight so get some sleep and hopefully we'll both be able to get back on tomorrow to talk some more.

Meerkata and Missshakespeare, you are both so generous with your words about Mozart, She did always stand by those in need, not matter what. I think that humans could stand to take a lesson of the meerkats. We still need to stand by the meerkats that are left, for they are the future. We have to pray and hope that nothing bad befalls these creatures, for their sake and ours. We have to remember the great quailties of the ones we lost and keep their memory alive.
I think that most of us are scared to log off, seeing as how we are having way to much trouble signing back on ( i know i did). It's nice to have this place to come and talk to people about our love for the meerkats and to be able to lean on each other for the loss of our favorites.

Yes, Lola & Sophie do act caring like Mozart--- Maybelline, her feistiness and independence. even though i'll root for Rocket Dog in a standoff, i do wish good things for Maybelline, too.
I remember Youssarian now, too. He was worried about Flower's pups.
Well, i'll be logging off shortly, and may not get back in--if not, so long fellow meerkat lovers.

Wow I finally got back in. I was sad to see that mabbie thought that she had to leave the group. I hate to see the family seperated, but with winter coming it's going to be hard for all of them and a large group has such a hard time foraging. I hope that next season has more joy in it and not so much heartache.

Maybelline was making leadcalls for her pups to follow. Half the males followed as well. I recall a scene at the Starski den when Mozart's leadcalls were ignored and Kink's were followed. I guess a group can determine if a female should be dominant - - or - - half the Whisker males are just stupid. {shrug}
OH! The Old Man Returns! Males seem to come and go as they rove. It doesn't suprise me that Zaphod was welcomed back into the group. He wasn't evicted. He left on his own. If there is any scent the group would recognize, it would be dear ol' dad.
Maybelline's group the Aztecs. I guess we can look forward to a Civil War between them and the Whiskers. The hardest part of season 4 will be watching brothers and sisters fighting each other for territory. RD twice has put Maybelline in her place. Maybe its Maybelline that should have been evicted by RD before she had the chance to split. Let her spend a few lonely nights in Mozart's paws.

Darthx
As far as we all know yes they will be coming back for a 4th season. My prayers are with all of the kats during the tough winter on the Kalahari. May the all make it through safely, I don't think anyone of us would be able to handle logging into the spoiler content next February and learn that any of our favorites had passed during the winter.
As I've said before hopefully MM Producers will read some of our postings and rethink the death to life ratio they will be showing in the 4th season. Afterall this does air (at least in my area) during the family hour when many parents allow their children to watch TV. The last thing a young child needs to see is the horrific deaths that we have all witnessed this past season.
I can only imagine the nightmares that they would have, I know that I've had my share of nightmares after some of these episodes, especially the Len & Squiggy episode.
I would love to see the lighter side to their lives as we did in previous seasons, since that's what drew us all in in the first place.
I know that I will continue coming to this board even during the off season. I have met so many wonderful people here and feel without this board I'd probably be nuts by now. I'm sure there will be many new members logging in as they air the reruns. So we all need to be here for each other.

Hi All,
I'm actually glad that season 3 is over. I am so tired of crying over our Meerkats. It was exhausting needless to say. I still think about the ones we lost. What a way to end the season. Maybelline shocked me, and I'm sure she shocked RocketDog. WOW, I can't wait for season 4!!

Once again my posting was bumped due to trigger words although I have no idea what I said to get bumped.
In a nut shell I stated that yes there will be a 4th season and that hopefully they will all make in through the winter.
I also said that I hope they rethink the death to life ration in the new season especially when there are so many children that may tune in since it airs during family hour.
I also stated that I will continue to be on the board since they will be airing reruns of this season and alot of people not having seen it before will be logging into the board to talk.
Let's see if they decide to post the one they bumped. This has been happening to me constantly since the update. How many words can actually be on that list?

meerkata, don't worry about these stupid bumps...there is something really wrong with the site, seeing as how alot of people are still having trouble logging in...I'm so glad that you will still be on the boards with the re-runs. I was beginning to think that I might be the only one. I hope that you are going to do the live chat in rememberance of Mozart's birthday on Nov. 8th. She needs to have her life celebrated by us, since AP never did a tribute to her.

Horray! I finally was able to log back in!! I've been reading the post but; like many others could get on to the forum. I'm so happy for this forum, I can express how I feel, and nobody get tired of talking about mm, unlike my boyfriend, (Jeff)
I'm sad for those we have lost in this season, and would like to say their names in honor of them.... Flower, Carlos, Kinkajou & sweet Mozart. although the show will go on, I will remember you!
I have mixed feelings about the split. I understand why, since the Whiskers have grown to 50, it probably would have been hard for even Flower. I would hope they, (the Whiskers) would all come back together so that they would not ever have to fight against one another.
My thoughts first are for RD and then also with Maybelline. Wish them both the best...at lest she has enough members in her group, who could bare to see another tragic Starskys fate?
If it weren't for Zaph, Mitch, Sophie, Axle & Lola, I'm not sure I could watch anymore. But; Mozart's memory lives on in Sophie. I just hope that season 4 brings them through without starving, injury and worse...

Did anyone else find this episode kind of anticlimactic or disappointing? Sure, the group split and there was a battle with the Zappa, but the preview made it sounds like there was going to be major direct confrontation between Rocket Dog and Maybelline... when really there was only just a little bit, followed by a mere forraging split that could even have been accidental initially.
I'm also kind of peeved for them having pretended that RD and Maybelline were littermates. (They weren't; Maybelline is younger than RD.)
Anyway I hope the movie comes out sometime early next year and that there is some news or spoilers to tide me over til next season... I'll need my Sophie fix.

Having lots of problems locking in. It took me a week and a half to finally get in and now my screen name is new. Even though there was no death in this last episode, it's still heart wrenching to watch. What is implied by the split is there will be more battles for the Whiskers; and worse scenario would be one of them may be eliminated if fortune fails to smile on them like the Starsky. Just wonder though that Maybelline acting out was the result of the mob becoming too big and the whole gang just can't connect to just one leader anymore. We got the feeling that this is what usually happens when the gang gets too large. What if there is no other meerkat that has any leadership traits? Would the gang will have splitted still?

spoiler board goes on, i think into next season, but maybe not. maybe it's just the stuff in between.
i'm hoping to avoid it. it didn't make Mozart's death any easier, that's for sure.
But, the upside is, the spoiler board is full of people who really understand the research and know who's who, and have read the Timothy Clutton-Brock book. Know the markings on the meerkats, stuff like that. I'll get the dvd's, then at least i'll know a little more. And you can go to the KMP site, too, which i'll likely have to do to answer the question below. But it's complicated because they have different names.
For instance, i don't know, but i bet half the spoiler board knows--who are Lola's parents?

Like many of you, I have not been able to post for days, except for a very short time a few nights ago. I do hope they get the site working better.
yes, I will miss our favorites, and to remember them..Carlos, Flower, Kinkajou, and sweet Mozart..and all those who have died or disappeared. It will be strange and sad not see them in future episodes. I had hoped sweet Mozart would have had a better fate, and wished she could have returned to the Whiskers like Zaphod did..which is confusing why he could return and not sweet Mozart. I was sad to see Flower's family split. But the split was inevitable, even if Flower were still with us. The group had grown so large, an area would not have sustained them for long. Flower's legacy will spread across the Kalahari. I was proud of Maybelline's audacity and bravery. I felt sad for Rocketdog waiting for the others to return to the burrow..but she might be able to manage a smaller group, and who knows if some may return? I do hope she finds a good mate and has pups. I was happy to see Zaphod return..even if it was not at the best moment..LOL. I was glad to see Lola again, especially when she saved the pups. I will watch for the future fate of the Zappa and the Commandos. I won't stop watching MM, and will look forward to watching Sophie.I hope that Zaphod will be ok. and keep my fingers crossed for Mitch.
Forever Flower, Carlos, Kinkajou, and sweet sweet Mozart.

I too was happy to see that everyone made it through the season ender. I don't know that I could have dealt with losing another so soon after Mozart.
As sad as it was to see the family split, like some of you, I realize that a smaller group has a better chance of survival during the hard winter months. Maybelline really showed some gumption chasing off rivals her first day out. RD is still learning how to guide the group, but Maybelline seems to be a natural.
Does anyone know what happened to Axel? The last I saw he was following Mitch trying to be just like him, and a good role model choice that was, Mitch can teach Axel what he needs to know.
I am looking forward to reruns and hoping to see some of the first two seasons that I missed, from what I have read here they were not as sad as the third season was.

Well hallelujah, it's been a week, since Halloween, since I've been able to log on. That trick took a little too long. Anyway, I stayed completely away from the spoiler boards after inquiring the UK watchers about the Journey's End episode. I inadvertently clicked and saw Mozart's Dead & was very upset. It's like reading the last page of a novel before you read the whole thing. Why bother watching a show if you know the outcome? Anyway, I did not see this split coming. I knew there would be a power struggle w/RD & Maybelline but I didn't think she'd just walk away w/almost half the group. Interesting. I saw the Aztecs on the KMP site but truly didn't know who they were. I think it was for the better. The group was just too big. Think of how Flower purposely split the group when food was scarce. She knew their best chance to survive as a whole was by being apart. I'm soooooo happy all the Zappa pups survived. Lola rocks, she does remind me of Mozart. It was tough seeing one little guy rolling in the sand, I was like oh no, someone go save him! I knew Zaphod would return, I'm happy for him to be back with his family. I was happy there were no deaths this episode. 7 out of 13 episodes had at least one meerkat die. Being the 3rd season, it was hard seeing ones we had come to know & love die, especially Flower. Now we have to wait until next August.....ugh!! Well at least we have the movie coming up & the book.

Before I share my thoughts on Ep 13, I thought I'd answer some questions.
From what I see, Mitch is with the Whiskers.
I don't have a clue who Lola's parents are, she's the oldest Zappa female, so her parents might be listed in the naming list from 2006, although I don't think that was on the FKMP web site. At least that's the impression I get.
Mozart was probably gone from the Whiskers too long to be accepted back as family. The Starsky began as a group in 2006 and were lost in April 2007 (I think), that's a long time to be gone. Also, females aren't welcomed back after long absences. They may come back if evicted while pregnant after they've aborted and maybe after the DF gives birth.
I liked the last episode. I think it was well done. I'm glad no one died. I think the group was very large and needed to split. I also think both girls will be good leaders. RDs group is larger, and harder to control, so she has more challenges.
I thought the amount of noise all those pups made was really amazing. Wouldn't that attract every predator around? I guess that shows how successful sentinels are.
Looking forward to the movie and season 4, although I'll always miss the meerkats we lost this season.

I too really liked the final episode. It was nice to see that no one died (yeah, Lola!). I can't wait for next season to see how the split groups do. This is becoming quite the Dallas/Dynasty of the desert. Rocket Dog and Maybelline are definitely their mother's daughters!

jtutton--thx for letting us know on Lola, la la la la Lola! if i ever figure it out, i'll be sure to broadcast it.
and rg913--i too was looking for axel & mitch. probably something will be in season 4.

a friend of mine in Australia said they don't have Meerkat Manor either..but she doesn't have cable..so I don't know if it has been shown on a channel she doesn't get.
jtutton_99...I think I read on wikipedia that Kinkajou died "in early 2007"..and Mozart in April. so Kinkajou must have died around the same time period as Flower.
I wonder what might have happened if Mozart and Zaphod had met during those lost months.

I hope they show a lot of Sophie..since she is Mozart's daughter. I hope none of these are lost during the winter.

I think Maybelline will be an excellent DF considering how she handled herself and her little crew against the zappa.
Also I'm so glad I'm not only one who got the end line. I got a huge chuckle when I heard. 'Maybe it's Maybelline.'
I hope to see them all next season.
