I have said this here twice now; Mozart was just a favorite of mine. I just loved her and the one thing I hope is she knows, and I truly believe she does know we loved her. She is out of her misery now. She is at peace, she doesn't have to fight day in and day out just to try to love and be loved and be able to have a Meerkat life. I didn't think we were going to see her again. I had this hunch. I don't know why but I know I am so sad to see this little tiny creature with such dignity and so much love to give, I think, pass away it was hard.

I wrote all I had the strength for in the thread for a Mozart memorial. She was, along with Shakespeare & Mitch, my favorite. I always just wanted her to be loved, filled tummy, warm & belonging. She ended up alone, empty stomach, cold & I'll write it again -alone.
This is turning out to be the worst season ever on Meerkat Manor.

I'm too sad. Flower I was prepared for - - but not Mozart. It was hard enough to watch her be rejected by her own family. Then this last episode, I had it Tivo'ed - - - I just don't know....

I'm drained & sad.

This episode really does depict real life. Life sucks and then you die! Poor Mozart. I don't think I can watch this show anymore as it is going to put me back in therapy.

I am new to meerkat manor but have quickly grown to love the little guys. I just started watching a few weeks ago when AP had the marathon on in honor of Flower.

I was very saddened by the death of Flower and Mozart (believe me, I was rooting for Mozart until the very end and so much wanted to see her succeed) and shed some tears for both gals.

I think one thing to remember when wondering why the researchers don't intervene is because they could interrupt the balance of life in the desert. I hate to see something bad happen to one of the meerkats whom we have come to know and love, but if a meerkat dies because of a bird, jackel, snake, etc, you have to understand that the "predator" also has a family to feed and nurture. Even when a meerkat kills another meerkat, it is to protect their family so they can thrive. When Discovery came out with that series Planet Earth, the producers said they could not intervene for those reasons. It is just part of the circle of life. It is a harsh reality of life in the desert, but makes it all that much sweeter when we see the tough meerkats escape their predators.

I too had many questions that a lot of you posted on Mozart. I had read in the spoiler she had been attacked by a jackal. AP also made the comment during the show as the jackal was on screen, that he was out looking for dinner, so to speak. If in fact a jackal did kill Mozart, then he was hungry. I think AP softened the blow for us about how she died and placed another meerkat in her place when showing she had been killed. Could be why the weight difference. I am so grateful to AP for not showing anything graphic. I also believe that as much as we love these little critters and cry over them, AP does need to be straight up with us on what happens to them. I wonder myself, why most of the deaths occured in the third season. I hope they aren't changing the chronological order of how things actually happened or started playing catch up. If we have to suffer through loosing our little meerkats, then we have a right to know who, how and when they passed away or killed. They used to narrate who passed away, like Nikata's dominant mate from the Lazali. I think it was Sid or big Cy. Been awhile. If they did an hour show, they could give us more detail on the meerkats they do story lines on. We know about the pups when they are born, but there it mostly ends for information except for Mitch and Sophie. I'm talking about the pups that survive. Life is real and very cruel in the Kalahari and we all know that, so I think most of us agree that we need the truth about our kats and not just a major story line in making the show. I also agree that Mozart should be memorialized with her mom, Flower. She has been a major part of the story for three years. I hope they did bury her with her mother and when God forbid, something happens to Zaphod, I hope they choose to bury him along side his loyal mate. I am too addicted to the show to stop watching in spite of the pain. I don't want the researcher/writers to start altering what happens to our loving kats because we are having such a problem accepting all this tragedy. They need to keep the show honest and some kind of accuracy in the time frame to help us deal and grieve for our kats. Please AP, Mozart was one of the most favored meerkat on the show, please do memorialize her, as so many of us are really grieving her loss. Goodby little Mozart, I will always hold you in a special place in my heart, along with Flower and Shakespeare. I also think so often of Blossom. I was devasted at her being killed also. I miss all the others, but they hold a special place in my heart.

I put a screen capture of the season 1 opening credits on my desktop... where she's cuddling all of the dozen pups when Youssy tried the burrow move.

If we don't see lots and lots of Sophie next season I will be very disappointed.

Thank you AP for not showing Mozart mangled and bloody. I've been dreading this episode since I started hitting the spoiler forums after Flower's death. After Journeys End I never wanted to be caught unprepared again as I had for Flower. I recorded this show with the intent of not watching the end (her death) until I was ready. But the shot of Mozart in the sand was so dark that I could barely make her out. I for one appreciate any "staging" that KMP and AP did to soften this blow. She was the one I always rooted for. I want to remember her the way she was in life.

How do you do a screen capture?
I just now realized that you were in or near the fires, dmoo. Dah! Glad all is relatively well.

I too knew what was coming and it was still awfully hard.
When I began to watch this show from the very begining, I thought "Wow..This is a great show!" You're fascinated by their family structures, their survival and coping skills. And even though you know it's a study that you are watching, the presentation soon separates your mind and your heart. Now it's become personal and it grips your emotions fully. But for all the hurt and tears that have been shed for various members of our fabled Whiskers... little Shakespeare, our beloved Flower, all the lost pups, Kinkajou, Whoopi and now brave, brave little Mozart, don't forget the good times. Like when the new pups first come out of the burrow and try to clammer up the sides or when they had a successful foreging day and they are all around the borrow, with bellies full. That's what I'll remember. And even after all that has happened recently, I still will not stop watching and learning. When the show ends, the life battle will still go on but we won't be invited in to watch it. Maybe that's a good thing, because it will no longer be "personal." But you will have gained and learned so much from these little guys that you will never forget them. Some little thing or interaction you see will remind you of Flower and her leadership. Shakespeare and his valour. Carlos and his roving ways. Zaphod and his dedication to family and Mozart with her determination to survive and all of them, their heart. They all gave it the good fight and new generations will continue to do so and I know, I'm a better person for the experience.

Well it took me a few days before I could even come to the Forum. Mozzy's death was even harder on me than Flowers. She has just suffered so much!!! I read about her death in the Spoilers, and regretted it the moment I saw it. Then again, it might have softened the blow just a little, by knowing in advance. My favorites have always been Shakes & Mozzy. I still hold out hope for Shakes. Seeing Wilson come back for Mozzy just broke my heart. As they watched their families fight, it reminded me of Romeo & Juliet. As for the possibility of a Jackle killing her, I do not believe that, as it would have eaten her. The way her body was positioned looked like she was struggling to come out of the burrow that morning and just callapsed. I am wondering if with the fire, maybe she had too much smoke inhalation? Just a thought. Or perhaps, she finally just had too much and could not go on anymore.

I cried for quite awhile, and will have such a difficult time getting over her. Like many of you, I do not know how much more I can take of all this. I truly hope AP takes a different approach with Season 4, and make it more like Season 1. I don't know about you, but I am just fine with "fluff" light hearted episodes.

RIP Mozart. You will be missed by many.

I too cried and cried for Mozart. I loved her caring and kind nature. Sadly, Nature was not kind to her. I am a retired teacher totally enchanted by these little cuties. It comforts me to be with so many other people who loved Shakespeare, Carlos, Flower, and sweet Mozart. My family just doesn't "get it." I am proud to be a member of this forum, where we can share our love of meerkats, and mourn those who have passed.

I'm either going to stop watching the show or stop coming to this web site. I knew Mozart was going to die and I could not watch the show. I've watched the show and read enough here to know you can't really be sure what happened to who and no one who knows is going to tell you. The on-line question and answer session after Flower died didn't tell me anything new.
Animal Planet makes money for every show it puts on. It is a business. I don't believe we have to see dead meerkats on tv every week to know what happened to them. I came on this web site to try and find out what happened to Shakespeare and all I found out is no one knows for sure what happened to him and the people who edit the film and write the script don't know which meerkat is which and what happened to anyone.\
I don't know if I'll be able to watch it anymore but there has to be a better way to see the life and death struggle of these little creatures I've come to love so much.

The closing lines brought tears to my unshaven cheeks :

"As he eagerly makes his way back toward Mozart’s territory, in the early morning light, the Kalahari has never looked so magnificent.
But behind the desert’s great beauty lies a frightening indifference for life.

As Wilson stands on the crest of a dune, his eyes settle on a shape in the sand. Though she fought bravely against the odds, as a lone female, Mozart could no longer defy the desert. It’s likely she fell prey to a passing jackal.

Wilson is learning that the life-sustaining Kalahari has more than one face and a thousand ways to kill.

The land that nurtured Mozart from the first moments of her life now holds her in a final embrace."

The closing line above tore me apart. Mozart was indeed a favorite of many.

Yes, it is sad that Mozart died. Contrary to what I want to believe, life on the Kalahari is anything but fair or romantic. This has been a hard season to watch with the deaths of so many of the meerkats. The closing lines quoted in whiskers786's post were a fitting tribute to a tough little meerkat.

But to those who proclaim: "I'm never watching this show again" think about this: these meerkats live FREE and natural lives. This is a nature documentary - observations of their natural behaviors. Saying you're never going to watch Meerkat Manor again is like saying you're never going to watch Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom just because a zebra died.

I suggest you start watching something like Animal Precinct & get ANGRY about those situations - situations you can help prevent or remedy by becoming involved.

Be sad & angry for all the animals that suffer at the hands of humans. Enjoy the meerkats, mourn their losses, and get angry about the animals right in your neighborhood who truly need your help.

Hey,..

Does anyone know what happened to Yousarian? I love that little bugger... I thought they alluded to his return.

I watched and cried like a baby, even though I have known for weeks it didn't make it an easier to actually watch.

Trying to get my mind off it I took my niece to Starved Rock National Park but found myself many times throughout the day getting very misty eyed.

I came on the boards today expecting to see a Memorial Section for Mozart and was surprised that there wasn't one.

I had started The Queen Welcomes her Princess Home on the Spoiler Board about a week ago and now I've added the same thread to the Tributes Section. But I surely thought one would've been started knowing that there are more Mozart fans out there than Flower fans.

We have amazing people on this board who have rooted for Mozart from the beginning as I did only to have their hearts ripped out with her death.

In my book Mozart was stronger than Flower because she had to be.
Flower had it all and strived for nothing.
Mozart had nothing but strived for it all.

I still wonder about her death and feel that she may have died from TB, especially when Wilson died 2 months later after spending the night with her.
I feel with the stress of the fire and all that she's been through that her body just couldn't go on. She may have been found laying there by a jackal and it may have actually bit her but I don't feel that's what killer her.

Like others on this board I too felt that Mozart appeared kinda large and heavy but that might just be the fact that Wilson is so much younger. I also have doubts on the way the moonlight scene appeared it actually looked fake, and most kats are cuddled in a burrow at nightfall.
I guess we all witnessed more of that copy and paste footage that MM Producers are known for.

I will do another posting strictly on Mozart but first did anyone else notice that Zaphods wound kept appearing and disappearing?

I'm new to the forum but have watched MM since day one. Mozart has always been my fav and I [a 55 year old grandmother] am still crying over her death.

We all realize that this show is based on real life but all of the death this season has become overwhelming. I'm sooo sick of being in tears every Friday.

And about those stupid pop ups during the whole episode: BADLY DONE AP! BADLY DONE!

I've read all of these posts and have come to the conclusion that AP is going to lose a huge number of viewers is they don't lighten up.

What was the point of showing us the demise of Len and Squiq? The producers already knew Flower was going to die so I wish they would have focused on her during that time instead. I kept wondering "Why the focus on this splinter group"? This didn't happen before! I feel cheated! Just a "Len and Squig didn't make it" would have sufficed!

My grandchildren [5 year old twins] are no longer allowed to watch MM until after I've watched it first. I haven't been able to give my daughter-in-law the okay at all this season. This whole season should have had a "Viewer Discression Warning" atached to the show. We want our children to love and respect nature and to care for this world "so much better than we have" and the reality of nature is something they should understand. But we as parents and grandparents should have been given a timely warning so as to decide if this much death was something children of certain ages should have viewed. Again: BADLY DONE AP! I can't help but wonder how many little ones have been tramatized by Meerkat Manor this season?

I will continue to watch MM but if next season follows the same thread as this season I will have to decline. I keep wondering why this show has taken such a dark turn and what the heck happened to the good things that happen in Meerkat life. Enough of the "Gloom and Doom" already! AP needs desperately to find a better balance for this program!

With tears in my eyes I say, "Goodbye Sweet Little Mozart." I will miss you so very much! I am so very happy that I had the privilege of sharing in your life and many adventures. Thank You Little Kat!

I agree with the above. The Kalahari was not kind to Mozart. But I loved her all the same. It was a HUGE blow to have her gone just weeks after Flower. This has been a tough year for us who love the meerkats. But I would like to say to Cambridge, besides condolences...I want more. I would like a behind the scenes look from your perspective. I would like a more banal look at their lives. This year of sudden and horrific deaths needs to be balanced by the more day to day stuff. Including but not limited to setting up cameras, how you keep up with them, life at your camp...etc.

Thank you so much for all your hard work, it does help to know you are in this for and with us fans!
