My heart skipped a beat when I first saw the title of the show. Will it be another replay of Len and Squiggy, I wondered. Fortunately it was not, and thanks in part to that little black bird(Was it called a Drongo?). I did love seeing Rocket Dog and the rest in a cuddle pile, taking their afternoon siesta. Adn the playfighting, too. I loved it when the pups emerged from the burrow at the beginning of the show and watched for the first time in their lives the aerial stunts of those birds. And then chow time! Alot of yum-yums in the desert. However, I felt sorry for Finn and her sisters--reminded me too much of Mozart and her sisters. And then there is poor Miles with that wound on his face. Hard to see Zorro and Miles duke it out, but is he actually the first male eviction?

During Kalahari Confidential, one of the researchers said something to the effect of not getting to close to the Meerkats and not taking their deaths to heart. I had wondered about the researchers--how do they handle it? Distancing yourself would be required as a scientist, but I am too much of a softie and would probably get emotionally involved.

Another good episode.
The time frame is February 2008. Rocket Dog is pregnant again, but all the other females in the Whiskers are, as well: Sophie/Ella, Wiley Kat, and even young Rita/Amira. Not to forget, three other Whiskers females that were evicted, and they tried unsuccessfully to rejoin the group, but they were prevented from, are pregnant too. It's Finn, Miss Lilly The Pink, and Ju Drop. They are not sisters though. Only Finn is Flower's daughter, and RD's half sister. The last two are Mozart's daughters. They will form the Toyota soon. RD's dominance is not too strong, if all these females are pregnant.
It's the opposite in the Commandos. Nikita is a powerful DF (stealing food even from her pups). Male dominance is contested here. Miles, Zorro's brother possibly mated with Nikita already (poor Zorro, Nikita's current litter was fathered by Seacrest, her next one is probably not going to be fathered by him either). We are witnessing the first male eviction in history (we are told, but I think that Youssarian evicted Zaphod, for example)! Miles, injured, is out of the group, and Zorro is a true DM, wearing the collar for the first time.

Thanks for the additional info, Zettak. So Miss Lily and Ju Drop(Mozzie's daughters) and Finn form the Toyota? I obviously don't keep up with life history reports because I like to be surprised, but it's good to know that Mozart's legacy lives on...

Many viewers are interested in the fate of Mozart's offspring. Mozart's daughters were not named, so they will be probably given other names. It seems that in the next episode we will see the evicted females again. It was in the promos.

Poor Amira was given the name of another "celebrity".

Rocket Dog is preggers again and all of the Whiskers females are pg too - RD threw out 3 of expecting moms. At the Commandos Zorro beat up his his brother Miles for paying too much attention to Nikita and kicked him out of the family [may be the first known male eviction on the manner]. The name of this episode was "The Birds" and there all kinds of birds - that scared, helped and drove the Whiskers crazy.

Another great episode of Season 4. Thanks zettak for such a great recap of all the individuals....you are right on! I've seen small birds attack a large predator before, and it was nice that the drongo attacked at just the right moment.

Right after the drongo attacked the hawk and the camera scanned to a meerkat, did anyone notice the lump on one of the meerkats neck? The LH reports did indicate that several meerkats had TB and were euthanized...and I was told this too when I visited KMP in June. I didn't see this occurance when I was there, but wonder what others thought?

I do hope we see what happens with the three evicted Whisker girls next week.

The Good:
-Yay other wildlife!!! The hare, the many many birds, and the fox-like creature near the end. It kind of looked like a Fennec Fox, but I know that'd be wrong. So, what was it exactly? I'm curious.
-Drongo behavior like we never saw it before; first the mimicking, then the mobbing. I LOVED IT!
-Pups, pups, pups. Nuff said.
-Nappy time was, in my opinion, the real highlight of the episode. I always get a kick out of meers when they're sleepy and oh so cuddly.
-At last, we're getting the first signs of the new splinter group(s). I was waiting for this... I hope they keep the names, especially Kung Fu. Whoever came up with that one is a genius!
-MORE real names! They even mentioned "Wileykat," which belongs to another show and they never ever touched names like that before. Kudos, writers!

The Bad:
-How did all those girls get pregnant!? The season opened up with "a shortage of male suitors," and now all of a sudden, baby boom? Something's fishy here.
-Poor Miles. It looks like he's gonna be the new Youssarian- he even crossed his arms like Youssy used to! That sore on his cheek was so sad. ;.;
-And for the record, I don't buy that "first evicted male in manor history" bit for one second. It's just the first evicted male of the show; that doesn't necessarily qualify for "first ever." If it's happened here, you can bet it's happened before and will happen again. Meers are kinda predictable that way.
-I'm not sure why they switched the collar over to Zarathustra. Zorilla already looked good with it on. (If you don't know who I'm talking about, shame on you.)
-Ugh. "Mitch" being the hero again. Sorry, Mitch fans, but I think it's about time they gave the sentry credit to the real sentries. Or maybe I'm just running out of slops. ....Okay, I am.

The Ugly?:
-Oh no, rover boy's back next week. This will be trouble.
-SPOILER WARNING! ...Sort of, if you've been keeping up with the times. ......I know from looking at the life charts over at KMP, that Sophie is going to be one of the evicted girls who joins a new splinter group. Are they going to acknowledge it on the show? I certainly hope so, because I'd hate for poor little Ella- who's destined for greatness- to have to be "written out" as it were and replaced by "Sophie", the way Zara and several others were replaced by "Mitch." Not that I'm against Sophie, but come on. There are other meerkats in that big ol' family! Know what I'm saying?

I think that both Zorilla (Nikita), and Zara are wearing a collar. Just like Zaphod, and Maybelline.

Miles might be evicted and wounded now, but he is going to bounce back. Acording to MM, Zoro (Zararthustra) will go missing by the end of this season. The KMP says Zoro was (will be) killed by a predator and Miles will make the unlikely leap from evicted male to dominant male of the Commandos.
I agree that if Mitch isn't Mitch then he should be called by the actal meerkat's name. The same goes for Sophie(Ella) and Wilson (if he isn't the Wilson of the Commandos from last season.)It's confusing and misleading. Especially since Ella is going to be DF of the Whiskers and Sophie is considered to be Tina Sparkle (Mozart's daughter).
While I'm on the subject, Nikita should be called Zorilla because (as of March 2008) there is a Nikita in the Drie Doring family.

yes, i was wondering about that first evicted male thing, too. i heard about zaphod beating up youssy when i first got here. was actually glad to read your spoiler here, i was afraid the cheek wound might wind up like Carlos.

I'm confused. I don't think Sophie has been the real Sophie, Mozart's daughter, since the season started. Hopefully, can someone tell me i'm wrong?

Lastly, why are they putting all three ending episodes on one night, next Friday? i hope there is still a commitment to this show. i just can't not watch, i still love them all.

Soooo glad Nugget was OK. And who are the three sisters that are banding together? Yea! Even if all the pups don't make it, it seems much better for survival if the 3 stick together and keep at least one litter and attract some rovers.

BTW, Miles can join some Rovers, or maybe even return to Whiskers or Aztecs, no?

Loved all the pups!!! How cute were they?
I felt so bad for Miles. He was shaking and no one to comfort him. I would love for him to find RD's evicted sisters and form their own group.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but one time when they showed a closeup side view of Zorro- I swear it was actually Zaphod. It looked exactly like him.
3 episodes left burrow mates-let's hope there is happiness, no tragedy, and lots of pups Smile

And all three will be on next Friday 8/22 so don't miss the last three episodes...

How wonderful to see so much of Rocket Dog's pups, Nugget and Beaker. So precious...

My understanding is I will need my meerkat blankie for the last episode. Remember who Zorro is and other possible sad events.

Another terrific episode! I do believe that male meerkats have been evicted by the DM (remember when Houdini evicted Frank from the Zappas?) and I do think that when Yossarian was DM of the Whiskers clan, he was pretty rough on his brothers and even though I don't remember if there were any evictions because of that, still Yossarian was ready to lay down the law. That is how Yossarian got his trademark scar, fighting with his brother, Zaphod.
BTW, Zorro is Yossarian's son.
But poor Miles. He looked so hurt and shaken. You just want to pick them up when they look like that and cuddle them and make all the bad things go away. At least, he did not die and it seems like he will bounce back. Sometimes, meerkats can lose their lives in a vicious fight.

I absolutely loved this episode from beginning to end, other than watching poor Miles be the first male to ever be evicted.
Looking at Miles face told the story of what Zorro had done, I surely hope that Miles will find a family to accept him. Poor Baker better watch out since he appears to be the next target for Zorros firing squad.

As for all the scenes with the pups I could watch that for hours on end and never tire of it. I also enjoyed watching their afternoon nap and play time again not to repeat myself but I could watch an entire episode of just that.
Rocket Dog sure has her paws full with all the Whisker gals being pregnant maybe she'll show some mercy like Flower did when she allowed Mozart and Toscas babies to live.

Nikta has her paws full as well with all the Whisker male testerone being thrown around. Like I wrote earlier it was sad to see Zorro turn on his brother the way that he did, but I understand why he did it. Afterall the position of DM is no easier to hold on to then the position of DF. It's a daily struggle when you are at the top.

Nugget, Beaker and the fab 4 are an absolute joy to watch and it's educational when you see how young they start out with the family politics and the neighbor wars.

It's hard to believe that this Season will be over next week, we waited so long for it to get here and in a flash it's gone. In the promos for next week they are clearly saying SERIES FINALE not season finale like they did in previous seasons.

I know there have been rumors that there wont be a Season 5, and I pray they are just rumors. I can't imagine what life would be without Meerkat Manor to watch, to talk about to your family and friends and to share each others views on the forum. So to TPTB please, please let there be a Season 5, like I wrote before I'd have no problem watching multiple families on the Kalahari as long as we get updates on our favorites the Whiskers and Aztecs.

It was heartbreaking to see Zara/Zorro beating, injuring, and evicting his brother Miles. Poor Miles was scared, shivering, and in pain. But he is going to be fine. It's another story for "Zorro".

Yo folks

This was a great episode. Loved seeing all the birds! They are truly partners with the meerkats. BTW what you say with the drongos is part of Tom Flower's research with those birdies.

On the eviction of Miles, I think they are calling it that because of the way Zorro attacked Miles. Usually when the other male submits the DM leaves him alone and just harrasses him once in a while to remind him and most sub males just go off roving for a while like Yoyo did.

But Zorro was forcing Miles out of the group and therefore it is like the DF forcing a female to the fringes of the group to try and survive alone.

Anyway that is my take on why they are calling this a male eviction vs asserting dominance.

Wow 3 shows and hour and half of meerkat next week! Somebody pinch me!

Yes nimajeja i did remember seeing that, how can producers of the show forget previous events on thier own show, we have seen a DM get overthrown and evicted (happend when Punk took over as DM from Lola and Houdini returned from roving)

Yo Lost Laz

What you are describing at Zappa is a "dominance bid", the male really chooses to leave, usually because he is related to the available females in the group. Glufs (Frank) in real life did choose to leave instead of staying with his daughters and also some of his sons, Puck (who played Frank/Glufs in the dance for dominance shot) for one went with him. This was not an eviction, just a dominance bid between two brothers Dougal (Houdini) and Puck. Puck decided it was time to go roving and joined up with Glufs and they scurried happily into the sunset with some Elveera females.

Remember sometimes you only see scenes that are strung/edited together to tell a story, close to what happens.

In the case of Zarathustra (Zorro) and Miles (Achilles) there were violent fights aimed at kicking a brother out of a group. This was a true sequence which will continue in the next few episodes.

The difference is very slight but it is there...

Hi Raindrop300, the only thing you can do if you want to see S1, S2 and S3 is order the DVD's or if you can sometimes after a Season is over they start showing the re-runs. So keep checking AP. I know they are showing re-runs now at 3:00 pm EST on AP not sure which season you might try and check it out. Also I noticed at Blockbuster that they had I think Season One so like I said you may have to do some digging to find some of this but hey I am sure you are a great meerkat digger... Krazy

yeah Pronker you are probably correct i just remember Frank and Houdini (probably other kats) doing the dominance dance and once 'Houdini" won he chased 'Frank" (probably to make the message sink in) so wasnt a fight like Zath and Miles it just came accross on the show as Houdini deposing Frank and chasing him away (but then again how many times did Zaphod do that to Yousarian) it just came accross as Frank was evicted but like ya said was probably a whole bunch of footage put together of other kats and that was the story they gave us... Apologies to the producers and thanks for clearing it up

The editing (and writing) made the "Houdini", and "Frank" episode appear more serious than it was. The Zorro/Zara, and Miles situation was really serious. Nikita/Zorilla preferred (as much as her temperament would allow) Miles as a mate instead of Zorro, who was sligthly older, and a DM for the Whiskers before. Zorro was not too pleased with it, for multiple reasons.
