what an episode! I laughed myself silly at the tunnel of love scene "this tunnel of love is bugged" XD and a couple of rather shameless closeups i might add ;p
Little Axel was so sweet sticking by his big sis for even a little while ^_^ Poor sophie, I hope things get better for her.
Nikita evidently doesn't care anymore ;p just let ALL the rovers in and have their way!
4 more for the army though, and a mate for Nikita.

Poor Sophie; what a harsh reality for her. She reminds me of our Mozzie and Tosca and the times they were evicted But I have faith, she will come into her own before long.
WOO HOOO, ZORRO!!! You da Man..err..Meerkat What an amazing thing to witness, Nakita submitting to the Whiskers rovers!! Yeeeaaaahh, Rovers, YAA-HOO Duke!!
I really like the new way the show is following more of the the other mobs, telling their stories along with the Whiskers. I just love seeing the interactions between the groups. Our Whiskers are spreading throughout the Manor in all kinds of ways.
I wish Zorro and Nikita, and the rest of the Commandos, the best of luck. May they help bring future generations of meerkats into the harsh Kalahari.
I'm also hoping that the Aztecs and the other small groups grow in numbers so that the future of the adorable little fuzzies is more secure.
Rocket Dog is starting to show that she is definitely Flower's dear daughter. Her leadership skills are improving with every episode. Her confidence is growing, and so are her unborn pups.
This episode is my favorite thus far. Those other groups out there are starting to commingle. It's interesting, to say the least.
My cat actually watched part of the show. It was funny. He didn't make any sounds or move much, just took it all in.
This is extaordinary. As it was stated in the EP's clip, a roving coalition took the initiative (dealing with a group depleted of its own males) in a matriarchal society to take over another group, and in the general confusion the DF (Nikita/Zorilla) allowed it! This never happened before. They were the usual change of names, but we know about this already. Good episode; MM is becoming more, and more interesting.
My heart goes out for Sophie but this weeks episode is another great one!!! I am loving this season so far. Maybe they listened to us when we said we didn't want to see so much death and suffering. We all know that any animal living in the desert has a hard life, but we fell in love with the meerkats because Of they way they deal with it. I wonder if the researchers are as amazed as I am, by what is going on there. Flowers children are in all the other groups giving them her great genes. What a legacy!! I wish when I die, I could effect my species as much as Flower. When I first started watching MM I didn't like Flower, I thought see was mean. Now that I know more about meerkats, I realize being the DF is not all wine and roses. Flower was really a very careing leader. I hope they keep comeing up with more episodes like the last three.
Wow, what a great episode!! I feel sorry for poor Sophie, but I hope she will be okay. So cute that Axel showed up to give her love!
Zorro's overtake of the Commandoes was great. It was like watching a military battle. Great moves, and a great takeover. Weird how the animal kingdom reflects how we feel. I say this because it is our day of Independence and it is a great day!
All the Commandos males (except for very few young ones) were roving, so Nikita/Zorilla couldn't do anything. It's the adult males of a group that can resist coups like this. Zorilla seemed to be enjoying the "group hug" though.
What an extraordinary episode! We are so fortunate to be able to witness the takeover of a mob by a coalition of roving males. Amazing. I like how this season is showing us in more detail the importance of roving males affecting the gene pool of unstable mobs. Fascinating. All of that scent marking footage was something else and even though it seemed that poor Nikita had to endure this coupe it will surely be to her benefit as she finally has a stable male to mate with and help defend the mob. Season 4 is getting better and better with each episode. I sure hope we get to catch up with Maybelline and the Aztecs soon though. I'm rooting for them big time.
What a fun episode. Sophie seemed to be doing well enough with a little help from a friend.
And Zorro and his posse are now a formidable force to be reckoned with. Word must have gotten around the Kalahari that the Commando girls are easy. Yeh, it was love all around.
Flower, Zaphod, Tosca, Mozart, their strain continues to populate the meerkat community and will for generations to come. Hooray for meerkat fertility.
Because he was adopted. Wish they could pair up, but i suppose he would be taking a dangerous step to leave his big family, only to raise another meerkat's pups (assuming Sophie got pregnant).
OR maybe Sophie and the meerkats Nikita is sure to run off (after they mated with the Whiskers rovers) can band together.
i hope there are some females and males left to stay with Nikita. i know they portray her as mean, but i wonder if she is really any meaner than any other seasoned DF.
So many hopes and dreams every season. Love you meerkats.
Even though we knew this had happened from the LH reports, to witness this "Kalahari First" was almost unbelievable.
We knew that (Zorro) and the boys were on the move, but boy what field technique....a bloodless coup d'etat, seemingly enjoyed quite a bit by our Nikita, except maybe for all the scent markings, wow. But listening to the preview for next week, I will reserve further judgement on the overall tactic.
This is a great example of knowing what happened , but seeing it....awesome. Why do those higher ups think such knowledge will keep us from watching Meerkat Manor; thereby, restricting what information is shared with us on the public FKMP?
I love "Nikita" She did quite well with the Whiskers boys. How awesome (and cute) was that? And did she say Miles and Baker? I was cheering! So good to "hear" their real names! More of that please! Not sure who among the 5 was so young to be Duke, but I'm guessing a name and I'm loving it!
Wanted to also say how exciting it was to see Uncle Youssy's boy Zarathrustra claim his birthright...to be a DM of his own mob, not a surrogate in Whiskers.
Yes, she did say Miles & Baker, sunshine, such memories!
Nikita/Zorilla is like any other successful DF (she is not "mean"). She didn't have a DM for some time, and since natal males have to leave the group at one point, this was going to happen at one point. It happened in a spectacular way. Nikita is going to start evicting subordinate adult females soon, because all of them (including her) are going to become pregnant. At the last second (despite MM's episode description, and MM Photo Gallery) K a r i m's name was changed to Duke, I guess. So, the roving coalition was Zorro (Zarathustra), Miles, Baker, Duke (K a r i m), and Dizzy (Panthro). K a r i m is Mozart's son, the rest are Flower's. It seems that in every other episode Axel is described as "adopted".
Some individuals do not want to be "surprised" by certain information before an episode airs, but most, as it is evident from the posts do not have a problem. They would watch for the details, to see certain kats, etc.
It was a good episode. What a take over! I still so sad for Sophie, like Mozart, life isn't easy even when someone comes to the "aide" for a short time. The Whiskers seem to be everywhere. A little Whiskers here, and a little Whiskers there, that gene pool will be every where.
I also like some of the meerkat fun videos. "If I were a meerkat, meerkat, meerkat" just sticks in my head.
What a great episode! I loved when Nikita and the boys were rolling around in the dust. I am so glad that these events were captured on film so we can all witness them. Truly a rarity! I was a little disappointed though that they changed Karim's name to Duke. I saw it as Karim in the episode guide and was so happy they were using his real name. Should have known better. Dizzy and Duke. UGH. Poor Sophie. I was so happy when Axel was comforting her. I think this was my favorite episode yet. It was hard to hear though with all the fireworks going off, LOL!
Zettak, Zorro's coup isn't quite a first. It reminds me of the Vivian rover coalition in 2001 which included Zaphod and Youssy. They took over Whiskers while the Whiskers boys were out roving, and things changed forever on the manor.
This coup was not what I expected to see, though. I was amazed at the method - simply pressing Nikita in the back of the burrow and the boys all piling on to hold her there - amazing!!!
I like that we are seeing more detail in this season, new behaviors. And there seems to be more of the meerkat sounds! I could listen to them for hours.
I am one of those that don't go into the spoilers, but I don't think giving the correct KMP names is a spoiler. I hope MM will use more of the names - alter egos aren't really needed, are they?
Beadart, I don' think that AP listened so much to "us" regarding death but more to the world's reaction to death on the Kalahari; it took the world's tears to bring about change. All in all a terrific episode; especally since I am not hearing any complaints about the scenes of Rosie and Duke which were tastefully done (like the belly rub). Gentle, loving Axel came to Sophie's rescue, if only for a brief time. I am hoping he will re- turn since he now knows the dire straits she is in and continues to visit her until "her" man arrives. I cannot help but wonder if Nikita is tiring of all those females around her. Is she perhaps wanting a DM and that is the reason she didn't put up the fight she could have. At times, it looked as if our DF was almost enjoying all that attention. Poor Zorro doesn't know what he has let himself in for! (I didn't see the preview for next week, can someone enlighten me?) Those vultures sitting in the tree sure saw a lot of fireworks this 4th, didn't they?
This was a GREAT episode, I loved watching the Whisker Rovers take over - it was simply an amazing coup. Seeing little Axel all grown up (and studly) and looking after Sophie was adorable! I hope he continues to take care of her through the brazen times ahead.
And ofcourse I loved the Tommerical.
RD and the Whiskers are currently down a few males but think about it.. somewhere out there there is a coilition of Commando males on the hunt as well..
I can understand them renaming K A R I M heck his name even triggers here, lol
Last night was a perfect example of why everyone should watch MM! Now if we could talk AP into hour long episodes my Friday night would be complete. Or at least cut back some on the commericals.. I know they are the money maker but must all the advertisers on AP advertise during one show?? hahahahah Give us more Kats and a list of folks that want our business at the end of the show.. I promise I'll buy something
Flower, Yousy, Mozart... they all live on - and we have the honor of watching it un-fold. Even knowing the jest of whats ahead from reading the LH reports - I'll tune in to see it happen live... AP should understand that, FANS will WATCH - even knowing ones!
ILM, I agree that an hour-long episode would be nice, I believe some kinks need to be worked out first to the satisfaction of the majority. While I am sure we (the US) have the greaatest number of viewers, the UK viewers have "issues" of their own that need to be considered, too. The one question I have is, should MM go to an hour would that cut down the number of episodes per season? Re Tommercial...I thought I sensed a lot of drooling going on out there in "kat" world! LOL!!
I'm aware of roving coalitions taking over other groups when their natal males are roving (the Vivian coalition's coup is one such example, as you mentioned). Some of us were discussing this kind of coup about a week ago, in the Spoiler Board ("How Does a DM Become a DM?"). I think it was the "method" that was achieved with that was interesting: the DF, the subordinate females, and a couple of young natal males are intimidated (literally trapped) in order to "surrender". Of course, chance, and circumstances played a role, as well.
This was a great episode. Zorro and his rovers taking over the Commandos like that. And yes, it did strongly remind me of the time when Zaphod, Yossarian and a few of their brothers took over the Whiskers family. Poor Sophie at least had Axel to help her over her loneliness. However, I think things will eventually work out for her. So things are really heating up in the Kalahari. Great show! Yes, I wish it was an hour long, too.
Great episode for sure! Now I know how a group of males can take over a group. ^^ Poor Sophie......I hope she won't find the same fate as Mozart. I understand her releaf [sorry I can't spell >.<] to see Axel and get a grooming. Good luck to Zoro on being DM of the Commandos.
I LOVED this episode! Just the fact that the camera crews were able to film this roving and takeover behavior is incredible! Way to go Whiskers boys! You can tell they are definitely their mother's and father's sons! The Commandos were in desperate need of a DM and male "warriors". Who better than Zorro and his brothers?
Poor Sophie....all on her own. I feel bad for her. But unfortunately that's what happens when you're a SF caught in the cross-hairs of a pregnant DF. But, something tells me Sophie's exile won't last long.
I have to say that so far, season 4 has been great. MORE PLEASE!
Hi, all. I've been out of pocket for awhile, but I've been able to see all episodes of S4. I think I've missed something important because I'm not understanding why speaking of K-a-r-i-m is causing problems. Will someone please enlighten me? I don't want to be the only one who doesn't get it! MaryJane
Our Axel is really growing up. I was pleased to see him trying to help Sophie. There were boards not too long ago where people were wondering about Axel, and then to our surprise, there he was
Zorro and his buddies sure knew how to steal the latest show and make their mark on the Commandos at the same time. Good work, Zorro.
I don't think Nikita is mean, as the commercials suggest. She's probably just trying to keep her pups safe, and if some of her subordinates are pregnant at the same time she is, that's not good for her or the pups.
Youssy, if he could see what Zorro did, would be beaming, no doubt. The reason the Whiskers prospered is Zaphod and his brothers joining them the same way the group of Whiskers boys have joined the Commandos. I'm not sure how it's going to play out for sure, but that makes me want to watch even more.
RD's pregnancy will come to a close in the next couple of weeks, with new pups to care for and more responsibility for the babysitters.
I'm totally pumped for the next episode Now, it's at 8:30 ET or 7:30 CT, in my case. Good luck to all meerkats.
The story of how Zorro & the guys took over was fascinating. This was the best episode so far in S4. Although I miss the old guard (especially Youssarian & Flower), I'm enjoying this season. It's been fairly light-hearded and is a lot easier to take than all the trauma of S3.
This was the best episode of the season. The storyline was so much different than anything we have seen in some time. It was more than just roving or "love in the desert". I like the way Zorro and his gang just began scentmarking the burrow. I wonder if Nakita was afraid of them and submitted or was impressed and wanted them in the group.
That said, Stockard Channing is still awful. I tried using the cc, but missed the music. I dont want keep complaining about her, but she is just awful and detracts from the show.
Somebody (sorry, forgot the name) asked about Axel and Sophie mating. My guess is that Axel was so young when he was adopted, that they just view each other as sister and brother.
OK, everyone be patient with me for just a moment. Every week I have complained about Stockard Channing. I realize we are stuck with her for at least this season, but I do also truly believe she is awful. I got some confirmation of this over the weekend.
I have Comcast and in thier on demand section, there is a 3 minute season 4 preview. So I watched it. It was narrated by a male (not Sean Astin). There was a scene where he was describing Nakita and the Cammandos. I found myself thinking about what the Commandos motivation is, what thier next move would be and what would happen during the season with them. When that was over, I watched episode 3 again. Stockard Channing was introducing the Commandos and read THE EXACT SAME SCRIPT. As I was watching it, all I could think about was the faces and expressions Stockard was making while recording the lines.
To me, that is what the difference is between good narration and not so good. A good narrator enhances the story and leads us to use our minds/imaginations about it. Not so good narration is just another actor in the story.
If you have Comcast, I urge you to check this out.
I hope we have Sean Astin or this other guy for Season 5.
