thanks for letting us know about Kinkajou, ziggy. It's very possible that Mozart, who curled up with her, has it too, then. Or not. guess we won't know. i found a u.s.g.s. piece--one person thought the researchers could be the vector, and another thought they caught it from going through garbage left by all the eco-tourism. just a short blurb. at any rate, we humans definitely brought it in to them. Gorillas are also getting it, i think. well i have to stop this compulsion and try to sleep. tb

Does anyone know the other members of the Starsky.I know Carlos the DM died due to his old wound from Hanabil.Wasn't there orginaly about 7 or 8 of them. What happened to them all and what were there names, just wondering. I was at work yesrterday til 600 and missed the MM marathon.I hope AP will show another.I am so grateful to AP for this show even with all the death this season it gives me someting to look forward to each week. This site has started so much good for meerkats in Zoos and just there general awareness of what they are.
I Don't regret loving there little guys or regret watching MM,If we don't watch shows the seasons will not go on.For now 2 seasons more are contracted.I'm not trying to drum up $$$ for AP in this however,I sure don't want to see the show stop.I do get very sad when ANY meerkats dies.I have to remind myself time and agian the life they lead is tough to say the least. They have to struggle each day just to find enough food to sustain them.
Keep hope alive, don't give up on them.Remember they are strong little creatures,We can be too. Peace and Love to all. I am up waaayyy to early for a Sunday.LOL

Ok, we all know we love these adorable little creatures. Yes, this season has been so tough to watch. With very few "Original" meerkats left, I feel like there are no more STARS! I will not watch next week as I know the outcome. I will tape it and watch it when my Heart can handle it. But for all of you who do watch and have that FINAL DAGGER shoved into your heart, Here is something to comfort you... Our Father knows whats best for us, so why should we complain. We always want the sunshine, but he knows there must be rain. We love the sound of laughter and the merriment of cheer, but our hearts would lose their tenderness if we never shed a tear. Our father tests us often with suffering and with sorrow. He tests us not to punish us, but to help us meet tomorrow. For growing trees are strengthened when they withstand the storm and the sharp cut of the chisel gives the marble grace and form. God never hurts us needlessly, and he never wastes our pain. And every loss he sends to us is followed by rich gain. And when we count the blessings that God has so freely sent, we find no cause for crying and no time to lament. So whenever we are troubled and when everything goes wrong, it's just God working in us, to make our SPIRIT STRONG! Please find my post AFTER the show airs. I will offer all of you something of COMFORT! To all my fellow animal Lovers - I will be thinking of you. Lisa

If you go to the "Talk about Meerkat Manor Here" forum, and look for posts under "Just got back from KMP" you can get alot of questions asked. Welcome to the burrow, uptons

I have to agree with you Ziggy. I'm also thinking that maybe they should have ended with Flower re-uniting with her group. They give us names to the faces and we fall in love. They tug at our hearts and them break them. I love MM. It's makes me laugh when I think of how much this means to us. These cute little critters are real to us. AP may manipulate the names and events, but these furry creatures are real.
The sad truth is, even if they were not filming this for us to watch, the same situations would have happened. At least we got to know some of them. Kink was sick and TB travels fast. We don't know how many others had this horrible disease. I'm with you, though, I'm so hoping next season isn't as sad.

What happened to De la Soul? I hope she didn't die.. anyways what's up with Kinkajou's pups? Are they okay? And it was really sad when they showed Carlos lying there, why would they do that? Poor kinks and Whoppie may they rest in paradise.

I was just hoping so bad that the Whiskers would let Mozart back in! I knew they would let her in! When they chased her off, I almost cried. What happened to Zaphod??? This is the first season I've watched only once a week. The other two seasons I watched during re-runs. Whatever happened to Shakespeare and Youssarian?

Hi petgirl6 - good to see you too! What you mention about the two girls makes them seem even more similar to humans. Sisters in our world often find themselves doing the same thing, fighting and then banding together when things get tough.
So, so true Snow. Meerkats seem more like people then most other animals. They are so human like.

quick question about the beginning of the show. They showed Carlos's body...but it had a collar on. I thought only DFs wore collars.
I started watching this season when by chance I came across a marathon of I'm guessing the beginning of the season. I'm not one to go back and watch old episodes when I know what's ahead but it sounds like watching the first 2 seasons might make me smile again. I can't believe how a bunch of little animals can have such a big impact on my emotions, especially since I've only been watching it for a few months and not from the beginning like most of you.

Since there was never a real decision made as to who was the Dominate Female of the Starsky, Carlos was collared as the DM. K

Poor Mozart, I've lost count of the number of tragedies she's experienced; the worst part I think it's that she always ends up alone. I really felt bad when she was rejected by her old family.

I cried like a baby when I saw Kinkajou shivering and too weak to stand and warm herself.
In typical Mozart fashion she stood by trying to comfort her sibling. She is a incredible kat in my book. As they lay together in the burrow I feel that Kinkajou was already gone but still Mozart stayed by her side.
I just don't understand if the researchers weigh them 3 times a day then why didn't they give them a little extra egg like they did with Fluffernutter? I understand this is based on the life and death but they did try to intervene with Flower, they did intervene with Big Cy, and they did intervene with Fluffernutter. I even read that they intervened with Squiggy so why not give them and extra egg during their weigh in?
After all Kinkajou was wearing a collar so the Starsky's were being checked daily. Could it be that they knew they had TB and therefore choose to let nature take it's course? And if they all had TB that means that De La Soul aka Whoopy also has it and may be accepted into another family therefore infecting more kats.
Rest in peace little Kinkajou, you may not have been one of my favorites after what you did to poor Mozarts pups. But if she can forgive you then so can I. My you run free with Flower and the rest of them getting more millipeds and scorpions than your little stomachs can hold and may you always have a warm burrow to sleep in free of snakes.
You will be missed little one.

Did anyone see this one coming? Three Degrees of Separation? OMG. I had no idea the only three meerkats left in the Starsky were Mozart, Whoopie, and Kinkajou, three females and no males.
I know Carlos died, and I loved him. In my mind I always saw him wearing a little black beret, lover of the Kalahari. It broke my heart to see him dead. It was so hard to see Kinkajou dead also. It made me realize just how fragile these animals are in this hostile environment. Terrible ending for the Starsky.
I don't know who Whoopie is, but she's lost. And Mozart, my favorite, is alone. This program is breaking my heart. I read it's possible Mozart may find a mate. She has always been the caring, gentle one who has remained by the side of a sick or dying meerkat. I want her to live so much and make a family of her own! Do any of the rest of you love Mozart, and how did you feel about this episode? It was very sad for me.

to all of you who are wondering what happened to the other Starskys.. near the beginning, when they were showing the 3 girls (De-la-sole (whoopie), Kinkajou and Mozart) grooming each other.. Sean, the narrator, said that the Starskys had been "ravaged by illness"..and these 3 were all that was left of the Starskys.

I wondered the same thing. If they give Fluffernutter extra egg, ( I read that some of them have given him extra egg) which they're not supposed to, then why didn't they feed Kinkajou and Mozart?? Why one and not the other? I have also read that people are hoping that Squiggy was rescued, I also hope that's true. I understand that the researchers are there to record and that they are not allowed to interfere, but just handling them for weighing and giving them egg and water as a reward is already interfering, so why not just a bit more? Where is their compassion for these animals who are suffering?

Yes, it breaks my heart when I see the camera panning AWAY from a crying pup. When the cameraman followed Blossom, I was yelling, get her, GET HER!!! It has to be hard on them if they have to leave them behind. I would turn off the camera and be putting them in my pocket, taking them back home and "dropping them off" with their family. Personally, I think 2 things... 1 - They should go ahead and rescue the pups when they can and start a little orphanage. They can send them to zoos or start another group. 2 - Since there is so much confustion about stunt doubles and stand ins, they should all wear little jerseys with numbers on them so we can keep track of them. Kinda like a sports team. No, I guess it's too hot there for that. Ok, then give them ALL numbers. Just use hair dye and paint little numbers on all their backs. Anyone else have any ideas?????

I read (can't remember where I read it)that the majority of the Starsky gang died from TB and that TB contributed to Kinkaju's death as well. It didn't say that Mozart had TB, just that she was predated. It makes you wonder as I have read many reseach reports on human TB being transmitted to meerkats as well as other wildlife.

To CMEERKAT. I am like you in that I really feel badly for Mozart. She has been given a sad lot in life. I hope she makes it one way or another. I would really feel bad for her if she dies soon.
I can't believe I am writing like this about an animal which I will never see in person. It shows the power of this TV show to catch your feelings and emotions if you are a true animal and nature lover.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF ANIMAL PLANET PUT A DISCLAIMER BEFORE EACH EPISODE STATING THAT THIS PARTICULAR EPISODE WILL BREAK YOUR HEART AND LEAVE YOU CRYING UNTIL THE NEXT "BREAK YOUR HEART" EPISODE. I KNOW THAT IN REALITY EVERY EPISODE IS AIRED A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE ACTUAL EVENT BUT THE IMPACT IS ALWAYS THE HERE AND NOW. NOW THAT MY HEART IS IN SHAMBLES AND WILL BE SHATTERED WITH THE NEXT EPISODE I ASK THAT NEXT SEASON BRING SOME HAPPINESS AND MEND MY BROKEN HEART.

I will still try to watch it but sure seems to get harder and sadder each week. I hope that the last two weeks have at least some hope of a upbeat time for these sweet little meerkats. I really loved mozart and she was so gentle even when she chased Daisy out of the mob she was determined but some part of her still seemed gentle and I wonder if Daisy would have been more stubborn that Mozart would have backed off. I think Mozart hormones were just getting the best of her at that time. )

Yes that's exactly what happened; the same thing happened to Flower when she was pregnant, she had mood swings and even ate a bird once. (coincidentally it was in that same episode when Mozart beat up Daisy and kicked her out of the group).

I so agree! If everyone would push for a review of their policy. maybe just maybe they might realize its time to review!!! Starvation is unacceptable! If they use them for profit they should take some responsibility. If they are interacting enough to change collars and weigh theme then they should prevent starvation!! pass along the message and maybe others will say enough! Thanks for listening Victrola 24

I too was very sad when Flower kicked her out, then her pups were killed, she has been a very strong Little girl and has had her share of bad events. She is a very caring and loving sister. GOD will take good care of her whenever her time comes. Love you always Mozart you and your sisters will live forever in our Hearts. I hope you will be reunited with your Mother and other family. All I can say is that this has been a very difficult season to watch, but it is nature in it's rawest. I hate to see bad things happen to animals, but since most of us feel that these creatures are a part of the family, it is so very disturbing to see them hurt or die. Flowers death broke my heart as did Carlos and the others. I get teary eyed everytime you see the bad things. This last episode was heart-wrenching as were so many more. I hate having spoilers where they don't need to be because I really don't want to know what's going on before it happens. I did know about Flower months ago, but decided to be in denial. I have done research on the KMP site so sometimes it's inevitable to find out some of the meerkats demise. I hope I can get through the rest of this season with minimal tears, but that is doubtful. I will always watch MM because it is my favorite show and deals with the reality of this world even as sad as it can be. Hope you all have a great day. Sorry about "the book" I just wrote.

Im think we all have to realize that as hard as it is to accept, these little creatures are part of a harsh world. In their own way, they have a lot in common with mankind and all living creatures. They are going through trials and tribulations the same as we do in everyday life. Everyone of them is beautiful in their own way. I love them all. I expect that there will be more deaths in the future, but that is to be expected. Kudos to Animal Planet for showing it as it really happens. I will continue to watch and enjoy the program.

Am I the only one thats thinks that stupid radio collar is what killed Kinkajou??? Both girls went through the same but she died!! Gee, you think it was the stress of starving and having to carry that stupid thing around her next?? I really am appalled. I am not a scientist but I would think maybe the little guys would be better with a tag under the skin. Don't the do that to sea creatures?

Whaaat? She never said anything like that! BTW, Thor, that collar did not kill Kinks. It's just like a normal collar and probably weighs next to nothing. Would YOU die from staration any faster if you were wearing a necklace? Kinks was younger and less experienced than Mozart. Also, Carlos was probably carrying TB. It infected the others and led combined with starvation, ended up destroying the group. Kinks probably had it and it sped up her death. Also, if they put a tag under her skin, what would happen if an animal ate her, accidentally ingested the tag, and ended up dying. That would be terrible. At least they can avoid the collar. Attila

Dear fjking0076, you wrote an answer to my sadness about Mozart's isolation, and the death of Kinkajou in "Three Degrees of Separation." I will watch Friday's episode. I read a male meerkat will take interest in Mozart. My thrill was knowing she's still alive!
I loved your post:
"..these little creatures are part of a harsh world. In their own way, they have a lot in common with mankind and all living creatures..Everyone of them is beautiful..I love them all...Kudos to Animal Planet for showing it as it really happens. I will continue to watch and enjoy the program."
Kudos to you! I am an animal lover, but I'm aware I could not be a researcher on this project. My human instinct to save these animals would overwhelm my instincts to research them. Can you imagine the emotional impact this must take on the researchers?
I too will continue to watch the program. The lives of these animals have touched my life in ways I never expected. Their society is very complex, and without this research none of us would ever know how intricate, sad, happy, and funny their lives really are. Kudos to Animal Planet indeed! Thank you all!

I don't know I guess it would depend on the ratings; personally I think that the series should end when the last of the original Whiskers (the ones we met during season 1) is gone. By 'gone' I don't necessarily mean dead, some of them like Zaphod just leave the family to rove and form new families.

Mozart has been one of my favorites since the beginning. I felt so sorry for her when Flower evicted her, and she had to abandon her pups to save herself. And, then she gets back into the Whiskers only to be evicted again and have those pups killed. I was so hopeful she would have some happiness when they showed her with a new group. I wasn't angry at Kinkajou when she killed the pups, but I was angry at the way it was portrayed. There was no reason to show her eating the pups or to show that tiny paw. As sad as is, it's actually very common for the dominant female to eat the subordinate's pups. I read a blog written by a man who volunteered with Earthwatch to work at KMP. He was there less than a week when some other volunteers told him they had seen pups being eaten by the dominate female in the group, and then just the next week he saw it happen himself. Meerkats seem like sweet, adorable little creatures, but they live a very harsh life, and that leads to behavior we don't like to see. Don't get me wrong, I love watching them too, but they are wild animals, not cuddly little pets. Having said that, I'd still like to have my own meerkat sanctuary, and save all the hungry and sick ones.
