Does someone die in EVERY episode? That poor little pup, I'm so depressed. Again.

I really did try to follow the things you taught me...I love you, Mom!" What a good girl.

And to think... If Tosca were to be so sensible and respectful, she'd still be with us today.

Tosca was Tosca, that is why we all loved and respected her. She was one of a kind. She wanted to be a D-F and this was her mind set, she believed her destiny. Tosca held her head high even in the presence of her mother Flower.

But I do miss her.

Good one, Melba!!! Cool

Don't insult my girls! Big Grin I know Daisy has issues, but never, never do they sink that low. The meerkat ladies are following their natural given instincts; the other 2 ladies their base instincts.

ccatz, I was only reflecting on the tone of the narration.....
I cannot think of a human pair that would be equivalent to the spirit of Daisy and Maybelline.
Hmmm.... maybe Thelma and Louise? They would only defend themselves.

i guess this shows how big my Commando obsession is.
when watching the episode for the first time, at the end when the "rival gang" was war dancing, i knew it wasnt the Commandoes. i could tell because the Commandoes hardly war dance at all! they charge! think about it. they charged towards the Lazuli babysitting burrow(young blood), they charged towards Flower and her small splinter group(when flower met Hannibal), they charged towards Zaphod(United we Stand), they charged towards the unattended den(The Quiet fields), they charged towards Flower and the 20 other members(Heavy the crown).

once i saw the hopping up and down and the fluffyness in the group's fur i knew it was the Whiskers and not the Commandoes!

I was glad to see that Flower returned in episode 7. It was nice to see the Whiskers back as a family again. They will need each other for strength and support.

snodin and ccatz, do we know for sure that tosca actually challenged flower to a dominance battle?

i was under the impression that flower planned to beat her up and chase her off no matter how tosca reacted to the reunion. after all, their last interaction was flower evicting her.

and flower threw the first punch, so to speak... it was the only one, really.

okay, blecch.
How did RD's pup in the ep die?
Did it just expire from prematurity, or...
was it eaten?
Curious.
Thanks.

i don't think we ever saw. Flower returned...it probably only took a look, much like Tosca gave Daisy

Whiskers girls... Did Rocket Dog really reach the age of 3 without a pregnancy? Wow.
Rocket Dog reminds of Mozart in her willingness to submit to Flower's leadership. Also in her approach to leadership--not evicting pregnant sisters and maybe showing a big learning curve in accepting the role of dominant female. Flower does seem to have a soft spot for Rocket Dog the way she did for Mozart--even though she evicted Mozart frequently, she let Mozart back in and let her stay in the Whiskers for a long time for a subordinate female, especially one with repeated pregnancies.

Dominance--Some girls really want it--Flower took it at age two, Lola took it at age one, Punk took it at age two, Kinkaju took it at age two, Tosca took at age two (splinter group), some girls find it comes their way and do their best with it, Mozart, Rocket Dog, and Daisy (splinter group).

Hannibal and crew--Still wonder what drove Flower's original decision to cede ground rather than continue the fight, especially since the Whiskers outnumber the Commandoes.

Yeah, Helperkat. I think RD has the leadership skills like Flower. Not killing the pups, more tolerance to her sisters. She just needs a little experience, which she will get. I am really rooting for her. She's become very dear to me.......

Meerkat pups less than three weeks old have little chance of surviving, whether they're prematurely born or not. That's because 1.) They're blind so they don't know where they're going, 2.) They have no protection from the blazing-hot sun, and 3.) They can hardly crawl which means easy meal for predators.

I believe RD was eating her passed placenta; some animals do it, and it was clearly not a tail dangling from her mouth in that one shot. She was really lucky to have passed it too, otherwise she could have died.

Queenflower posted
"And to bring a tear to my eyes, and a stake through my heart, the final line "In this time of plenty, with order restored, it could be the start of Flower's greatest era."

my thoughts exactly..
absolutely dread next week.

I did feel so sorry for RD when she miscarried the her pup...due to starvation and stress..

but in the end it turned out to be a blessing, not being a threat to Flower..
I think RD was happy for Flower's return and takeover.

It was confusing with Mitch being in 2 places..
someone's not keeping the story straight, or editing too much out.
makes you wonder.

I think the time was a bit condensed for the audience, giving us a false sense of how long things took.

I think Rocket Dog's miscarriage was probably for the best. Given the drought and the lack of food, even if the pups had been kept to term and then delivered healthy, they may still have died. They'd have milk for a few weeks but once they had to start foraging with the rest, I think them may have ended up just like Len and Squiggy. And with food and water so scarce, the mob may not have been able to stay in one place for the weeks it would take for the pups to be old enough to leave the burrow. They may have had to abandon them anyway.

It may have seemed like the rains came quickly but I don't think so.

I think Rocket Dog has the makings of a good DF. She's a bit young now. I'm not sure how old Daisy is but she's already proven not as strong a leader as her sister Mozart or mother Flower. And I'd like to see the Whiskers have a new DF that is young so that she can lead them for a good long time. Flower had one of the longest reigns of any DF. I think that's why she had such an impact.

Rocket Dog did not appear in seasons 1 and 2 under her own name. She is a littermate of Kinkajou, born Dec. 6, 2003. Someone (sorry, I forget who) posted a very amusing scenario of the producers overlooking her in the mistaken belief that she would never be important. It's worth looking for.

I agree, that was pretty funny.

She may have been on camera in Season 1 (I think the first episode, too?) where Kinkajou and other "rowdy teenages" take Mitch from the babysitting burrow and go off forraging and playing. But they didn't name the kats who were with Kinkajou (they were probably her littermates) so we didn't really meet RD then.

Overall, I really liked this episode with the exception of Rocket Dogs miscarriage. Frown I have watched it 4 times so far. I was confused about the Mitch factor too. Confused Are we sure HIS name is not Houdini? Nice magic act being in 2 places at once. Wink What I liked the most is they kept comparing leadership skills between the 2 groups. They reminded us over & over why Flower has been such a successful strong DF for over 4 years. I loved seeing her beautiful face, but my heart was in my throat knowing her fate next week. Rocket Dog is young & inexperienced but she will learn from her hardships & it will only make her a stronger leader. What happened to her was sort of parallel to what happened to Mozart, the stress made her lose her litter. It is an ironic blessing because she is still in Flower's good graces when the Whiskers reunite. What I find most interesting is, how did Flower know to approach Rocket Dog to sort of challenge her for top spot? How did she know Rocket Dog was leading the other half? Did she say, Hay, how come you got a collar too? Wink And interesting how she kind of glares at prego Daisy & Maybelline but chooses to give extra grooming time to Rocket Dog. It's like she almost is whispering in her ear, Look, if anything happens to me, your next in line for the crown, like she's almost hand picking her successor. I love the way RD respects her mom and bows down to her...she knows who the real Queen is. I don't know how long the gang is reunited before Flower leaves us Frown but I hope RD watches her mom closely and learns the ropes so to speak.
