this is aweful i missed the episode cause i said i could watch it at 8:30 like it always was on at that time again so we watched my brothers football tapes cause im at my grandmas in arkansas, so i missed it, and when i turned it on at the end it was at the inappropriate mating scene so i quickly changed the channel due to my little cousins.
but i dont mind stayin up till midnight.... i usually do it anyway
Season 4 is starting to pick up. This was a great episode, lots of nail bitting. Seacrest such a brave little meerkat, "dancing" with the enemy. RD and her secret..hmm..interesting. Can't wait to watch next week!!
Seacrest was lucky to be able to just survive being in Nikita's Commandos territory. He even got to stay the night on their turf. Of course, he eventually had to leave, but it will be a night for him to remember. I am hoping that his luck won't run out, and he will be able to make a great life for himself.
Poor little Sophie. The preview of the next episode said that she becomes "Public Enemy #1" I don't like the sound of that, but admittedly I was thinking it might happen sometime because of Wilson.
Sounds like Rocket Dog may be adding to the Whiskers' numbers. However, her pups have, so far, not fared too well. Good luck, RD and potential pups. Good luck to all the meerkats, both in the desert and elsewhere. Most of all, keep going, Zaphod
Really can't wait to find out Rocket Dog's secret--what a total cliffhanger. (Let's hope it's what we hope it is!) Ooh, is it next week yet? Great epi!
I still think these episodes should be an hour long. This was the best so far! And for those who don't read the KMP stuff, it is right on to the life history. So it's not made up. (Of course the human feeings given to the kats are but the story line is true). Anyway, I felt bad that RD's subordinates weren't listening to her and Zorro was butting in there leading the team. It almost cost Seacrest his life! Thank God they didn't kill him! I wonder what he's going to be up to next week? I can't wait to watch!
i must also add that the Nikita they show now..... its not the same. im used to the old Nikita..... im getting sorta sick of the show. i want Rhian, i have to practically chain myself to a chair in front of the tv to watch season 4. i dont like it. the thing is..... i know that shes gone... and i hoped season 4 would show her but all they're showing is Zorilla. i wanna cry i love Rhian and now im never gonna see her again
i know its sounds dum that one meerkat ruins the season for me... but if i saw her AS Nikita.. just one last time it would make it better. only time will tell.
to me.. season three was the best. all the camera action and music and though it was sad... it was terrific. in my opinion season 4 is a cheap soap opera. i hope it gets better.
but i havent seen the 3rd episode so i dont really know.
just know i will always watch mm. maybe not at the right time but i will.
im just really upset now. dont mind me, i just gotta talk to someone.... ...
Is Zorilla who plays Nikita still around? She reminds me alot of Youssarian, with the scar above her eye. That Seacrest is one brave little critter lol.
NC1, don't feel bad. I don't like that they just gave Jim Bob another one sentence eulogy tonight. What they could have done, was say that both Hannibal AND Nikita have passed on and Zorilla has taken dominance of the Commandos (start off with the true Commandos names). As you know, my favorite kat is Squiggy. The only way I can see him is by watching that painful episode. The only thing I can say is that's how you're going to have to see Rhian. And when they call Zorilla Nikita, you just say in your mind Zorilla. (that's what I do).

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode of Meerkat Manor. I love Rocket Dog and I hope she is pregnant! I feel so bad that she has been having a rocky start as DF but even our Queen of the Kalahari had some problems in the beginning of her reign. I also feel bad for the rest of the Whiskers because the group needs a DF they can have faith in. Go RD - you can do it! For a meerkat that supposedly has been sort of a wallflower up until now, Seacrest has really set himself apart from the pack. He seems to be a master rover - quite a natural. I may get a hip slam for this but I actually thought SC did a good job narrating tonight. Either she got better or I'm getting used to her. Either way, I thought the narration worked well with this episode. My *only* complaint is with the number of sexual innuendos written into the script of Season 4 so far. What is the deal? Call me a prude, but I don't need to hear about "how size matters in the meerkat world" or how "Nikita's morning started with a bang." This is not necessary nor amusing and I think the writers should back off of this kind of humor. There are young kids watching this show and personally I don't think we need to debase normal meerkat behavior and turn this wonderful show into Melrose Place. That being said, all in all, it was a wonderful episode and I am looking forward to finding out Rocket Dog's secret next week.
Well I've now watched tonights episode 3 times and I loved it but will admit I probably scared the bejesus out of my neighbors when Seacrest kept heading towards the Commandos after Zorro called the retreat (I had my windows open). Then when they mobbed him I was like
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm not ready for anyone to DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thank goodness The "Dark Queen" spared him and his punishment was a lesson in roving heh
Queenflower does have a good point, I'm always talking in innuendos (that's one reason I have posting issues, lol) and double entradars it's part of my "dirty ole lady" approach to life lol BUT - with regard to the show, I'm sure there is a huge audience out there that the writers elaborating on the "action" so to speak might not be appropriate for ~ I'm not saying it shouldnt be done at all (it IS funny), but with S4 fast becoming the season of procreation maybe the writers can curb their enthusiasm some -
I did notice the guide for comcast mentioned the Aztecs finding a home.. I'm not losing it am I..?? We didn't see them tonight... did we?
no Axel, no Mitch, no Zaph my 3 Meerkateers must have been having their own party elsewhere.
I am so sad. This is not the same MM we fell in love with. The magic is gone. I couldn't focus. My DM wandered out of the room. The sleaze factor gets worse every episode. Yes, the sexual innuendos are so inappropriate.
I'll keep watching if I don't have anything else to do.
Liked this episode better than the others. More action. Needed that. Hopefully pups are on the way but look out Sophie. Loved the look that Nitika gave Seascrest afterwards. Only out for one things I guess. Do think that some of the sly comments need to be wathched as there are young ones watching then asking questions. Keep up the good work.
Rocket's got a guy on the side, eh? That means pups and pups are power. Well unless your sister eats them, eh?
On Kalahari Confidential PPorter’s comment about Zaph's boyz getting a keg or hitting a liquor store, really made me laugh. Yeah the storyline has sunk that low. Maybe you should apply for the writer's spot. I assume it’ll be open after this year.
It sure has become a steamy storyline. No wonder the viewer numbers are down. You can find that storyline on any of the other mainstream channels and of course the parents don't want to watch it with their kids. They'll watch it under the covers once the kids are in bed. Whatever happened to learning about meerkats by watching them?
Yeah baby, what happened to the noble stories, like Shakespeare, Mozart and Tosca sticking together, Mitch’s mission to find the separated family, Columbus’ Awfully Big Adventure, Daisy’s Choice and even Yoyo's half hearted attempts at babysitting and rescuing pups.
And how about a little respect for our girl Rocket? Just a little couldn’t hurt, could it? Sigh…it’s obvious the narrator prefers the dark queen, Nikita (the 2nd, sorry NC1).
I have to say I'm surprised: last season there was a large protest amid a debate about making MM more "kid friendly". The general consensus was NO. So now instead of pup eating, there is too much mating? Which, BTW, is a major part of any animal research. The time change may be in part to keep the younger viewers away from this part of the Manor, and it certainly is an important part. I like knowing as much as I can about the bloodlines of the meerkats, and following which dominate female is having which rover's pups. Pups are power on the Manor. So steamy as some think it is, it is vital information. It's hardly like daytime tv with all the futon-hopping.
As for the writing, seems to me that the same writers are doing the job - easy to spot with that hackneyed old line about 'paying dearly'. For me, I got tired of hearing that line from Sean, 5 or 6 times per epi.
So agreed with most everything above. The episodes are cute and most enjoyable ...but... our kids are bombarded with sex, and violence all over tv and video games, and it saddens me that it has become commonly accepted as normal to experience this on a daily basis and consider it entertainment.
Until recently you could turn on Animal Planet and watch with your family and not have to explain a lot of "adult" speak. The same story can be told without all the sexual intimations and still be entertaining. That's the thing about animals - they are fascinating to watch and study as creatures of nature without unimaginative writers trying to sex things up. (Gee, we have commercials selling so much sex, we can't even figure out the product being sold.)
And, too, it seems AP needs to identify its MM target audience. On one hand the writing and narration is geared to a 5 year old, and then in the next breath it's bordering on "R" rated. This is a very big identity crisis for the viewer.
Where is the fine line between human emotion and instinct. We know animals don't have emotions, but how much of our emotions is just animal instinct. Doesn't it amaze you, that without emotions and caring feelings, that these little meerkats spend their days much as most of us do, getting up in the morning, keeping the house clean, feeding their families, protecting their homes, land and each other in the middle of all the chaos in the world around them?
An exciting episode indeed! and i never EVER saw that twist coming. Seacrest mating with Nikita? Seacrest must be a smooth talking charmer indeed. That was such a funny scene. "accepts his punishment" XD
I though he was doomed when the entire commandos mob ganged up on him ;_; he truly has luck on his side, not once but three times!
It's starting to look like it's all over for RD. hang in there, girl! I hope this secret of hers manages to straighten out her leadership. she has to be tough and confident!
This season is great so far with no major letdowns or deaths. But I agree with Queenflower about all the sexual stuff being written into the script so far. some is fine and natural but this is meerkat MANOR, not Meerkat brothel.
So far I don't mind this season at all. I'm just glad there hasn't been any tragedies and hope there isn't going to be any. As far as the mating- the rating on the show is PG after all-not G anymore like the first season, so of course some parental discretion shoud be advised in case pups are watching.
Pronker, I was reading your post and got to the part about Zaph's boyz getting a keg and hit- ting a liquor store and I lost it!! The funniest thought crossed my mind...the roving bachelors live in such a filthy flea-infested burrow that they couldn't stand it anymore. "Come on boyz, I know a liquor store that is open..let's drown the little buggers in booze; maybe then the flies will leave us alone!" suggests a rover desperate to be groomed. Thanks for the laughs I really appreciated it.
Seacrest had quite the day!Going from Comandos enimy to mating with Nikita......to getting kicked out. Seams like Mitch, Shakespear, & Axel put together. It does seam like it's all over for RD. Can't wait to find out what her secret is......hmmmm. I really didn't expect the Whiskers' to retreat in charging sence they're evenly matched. This season seems to be getting better and better.....^^ Can't wait for the next episode^^
I loved this episode the best. Although I was surprised at all of the sexual comments, it is on at 9 pm, so I took that into consideration.
I do wish RD well.. She is having such a tough time. Bless her little heart.
I hope that there are no deaths this season, but there have been many in the past so with that said all I can do is eagerly wait for episode 4 and hope that it is just as good as last nights.
I watched the daytime emmys last night, so I taped the midnight repeat MM and watched it today and have to say - I don't think I've seen anything quite like it - the Seacrest/Nikita speed date was really wild and liked the little bit with Tom Flower and fondly talking about RD and the one that named her.
I enjoyed last night's episode! I was worried about poor Seacrest when the Commandos beat him up, but I am so happy they spared his life and that he was ok.
OK. So I've been around at least as long as Susan Lucci and Genie Francis but I still blush at daytime drama. So this is the 21st century and so as far as MM goes I agree I am the dinosaur. PG ain't what it used to be.
I really am enjoying this season. It is a lot of fun.
BTW, Has anybody asked the real Flava Flav how he feels about losing his identity to Seacrest?
Yep, my guess is Angie is one of the next oldest females in Aztecs so in order they'd be: Flo, Billy (Chutney) and Bananas (Athena). But I think Flo and Finn were playing Daisy last season, so I guess that leaves Billy/Chutney.
I don't know if EJ is one of them too (possibly Bananas) because dye marks weren't visible but EJ seemed smaller/younger and may be Squig and/or Burdock.
They were seven Whiskers males that were about three years old at that time. Some were just older, some were just younger. Two were exactly three. MM follows the LH reports almost religiously this season. I believe they were more than one meerkats that portrayed "Seacrest". I think it was Jogu in the second mating scene. I checked the dye marks, and they matched his. Jogu was one of the two kats that were exactly (or so) three at the time.
Well I loved the show. Love is in the air, that means pups everywhere!
Seacrest sure got lucky, what a guy! He mated with Nikita! He may be the next Houdini!
Nikitas a good strong DF. Look forward to seeing more of her too.
R.D.s got a secret, we all know what that probalbly is!
I cant wait to see more, I realy have enjoyed it. Nice after sesason three. I know the kats have changed and the names are the same, but I still realy enjoy seeing them anyway.
So let me get this straight. Parents are just fine with letting the kiddies watch a TV show where fuzzy little meerkats routinely get killed, have their pups killed (sometimes at the hands of siblings!) get eaten by predators, and all this other horrible stuff. That scene of Carlos laying dead in the sand still depresses me, and I'm an adult. But yet when it comes to a little sexual innuendo that will probably go over their heads, it's "won't someone please think of the children?!" People need to get their priorities straight.

I am one of those that thinks the AMOUNT of innuendo might be a little much for YOUNGER kids -I dont have any so I dont really have a dog in that fight but I do have a right to express my opinion on it. For what it's worth the innuendo, the commentary, the narration is NOT happening uncontrollably in nature, it's being written by some guy in an office in Los Angeles no doubt. I never said the show needed to do away with it entirely, but even to me.. someone that lives in innuendo land it seemed a little much on the writers part.
At least I stated my original post without attempting to make those without the same view point as mine out to be roving idiots....
I just figure that the "death" was enough for the kids to deal with why compound it...
In my opinion the mating scenes shown on MM are not in any way offensive or disturbing. Animals mate out of instinct as a way to insure their survival. They are not out on a date trying to score for fun or pleasure. It's not dirty or seedy, just natural. And while the narration may have included some word play and innuendo, it's still no where near what kids see and hear on alot of video games, song lyrics, tv, and so on. As for the death, wow, some of the scenes from season 3 broke my heart, but Wild Kingdom and nature shows have been showing death since I was a little girl, many years ago. Unfortunately and sadly, it is a fact and a necessity that there must be death so that there can be new life.

All I'm trying to say is that if you plunk your kids down in front of a show like this, knowing that meerkats die and it's often shown graphically, then you kind of lose your right to protest when something else about the show isn't exactly kid-friendly either. But then again, we live in a world where violence is a-ok, but sexuality is where the line is drawn. Not that Meerkat Manor is a "violent" show, but it has it's share of scenes that might disturb younger viewers.
I say leave in the innuendos. It's a nice, light-hearted change from Season 3. If parents don't want their kids being exposed to that, they're always free to change the channel. That's why we have remotes.
I agree with you 100% Cordee, terrific post! Your point about Wild Kingdom hit the nail on the head; also, National Geographic has been doing animal specials for years. I have been looking at or reading their magazine for a very long time, long before AP came on board. We are not seeing anything new here. How do the "concerned" parents explain a lioness taking down a zebra to feed her cubs or a group of lions brutalizing a water buffalo before it finally dies all in the name of food? Better yet, how do you explain chimp gang warefare? What was said when the lemurs mated? Then, of course, you have naked young ones with nearly naked adults living in Africa (women's chests totally uncovered). These are scenes that most kids have seen if not in your home, in a friends home. Would you rather the kids watch a day in the life of an elephant (that has been on TV before). Innuendos are just that innuendos. Things being implied for specific reasons, in this case kids. May I suggest you watch the episode first, tape it, and then fast forward through those scenes you don't want your children to see. They will only react to what they see and hear you react to. The innuendos, for the most part, are over their heads. As an adult, we enjoy them and find them humorous. When the kids are talking to their friends, they definitely are not using in- nuendos they spell it out in plain English. How much, if at all, have your chilren complain- ed about innuendos or various questionable scenes. So Nikita's morning started off with a bang, that could have meant it started off in a hurry; pure, simple and uncomplicated. Try it, it works. Hopefully, soon, very soon, we can just get back to watching and loving our beloved kats; taking them are they are...little furry wonders of the world. Do you want to lose MM forever??
I have to say I loved the episode. I, personally, find the inuendos funny, although it may be a bit too often for family viewing. I do have to say that if it were made less dirty and more natural maybe it wouldn't be so offensive to some. Remember, we in the US are the most uptight when it comes to anything sex. We either make is so mainstream that we're hardened to it or we take a puritanical approach to not discussing or seeing any reference to it. Sigh.
I will keep watching, I'm enjoying the season.

I was gone this week so I had to watch it on my DVR... I couldn't tune in to the episode on Friday. =P
Anyway, I loved it! It was the bast so far!
But, like queenflower, I do not like the constant mention of mating habits, nor the constant mating scenes and sexual innuendoes. There are little kids watching, ya' know! Obviously the script wrter is a bit perverted...
I also am curious as to waht Rocket Dog's secret is. Perhaps we'll get to see a bit of Nugget & Beaker in the near future??
