o! Even Flower has run at times, Zappa snuck up on them and probably startled them so tey ran with out thinking but they came to there sense, and they couldnt have ran far researchers cant keep up with fast moving group, you can read that in the kmp site under the diary section. Of course Mitch went after the biggest one he could whoop any meerkat in the kalharis rear! (dont believe me? just ask me ill tell you! ll) but was nice to see Murphy help him and one of them had him pinned on the ground good ill just say it was mitch. I've noticed this in a bunch of episodes durin fights the dominate females tend to go for each other, i thought it was just me but this is twice now i seen this happen so if it happens a third time ill be set on this belief!

Anyone know how many episodes are left? Haven't we seen that watering whole before?

Attila
Axel is a doll, but for a minute, when he tried to stand guard next to Mitch, it reminded me so much of Mitch, when he was a pup, following Shakespeare around!

I'm watching the show right now, and am amazed at the Shakespeare->Mitch->Axel relationship.

Last week, I posted the possibility of Axle becoming the new dominant male and after this weeks episode, I still believe that. He is learning from one of the most diligent and strong members of the Whiskers, Mitch. At a very young age he is learning about guard duty and trying help in the move of the family. If Rocketdog remains in the role of dominant female, I'll keep my money on Axle if they can pour a little cold water, so to speak, on Rocketdog. With 7 new pups to find food for, they really don't need any new mouths to feed for a while.

meerly-a-fan Agree with you. Axel would be perfect. But he is just too young. Looking at him right now, he is no where the size of Mitch, and RD, you're right, if they could only pour some cold water on her.
Her motives are not lost though in that she must put out some of her own pups if she is going to remain DF, right now she has Flower pup(s) Maybelline pups Daisy pups Axel (Lola and ? pups)
So, the girl has to make herself the breeder to be viable, I guess.
But I love Axel, just love him.

Well that was deinatly a better episode(nobody died) Its amazing how fate works sometimes. It's nice to see when things work out for a change. It's great to see Shakespeare's influence going down the line. I'm a little afraid for Zaphod, though.

Okay, here's what I don't understand...they said in this episode that it's been 5 weeks since Flower's death. But they also said it was "mid-summer". If Flower died in February, 5 weeks later would make it sometime in April. Last I checked, April was Springtime unless the seasons of the Kalhari are vastly different.
And where is Izzy and Liz? For a female-dominated society, they sure left out the female pups in this episode.
And who the hell is Lyric? He was trying to help move one of Maybelline's pups.
Also, what are the names of the new 7 pups that belong to Daisy and Maybelline?
I loved that Axel was following Mitch, but I so wanted him to bark the warning call that I was yelling at the TV, Bark, Axel, Bark! Poor wee pup...still needs to learn the ropes.

Melba,
I was waiting for the squirrel too. When I saw all the pups I thought the Whiskers had opened a meerkat nursery or something. Way to many babies.
Mamameerkat, I was wondering about the 5 week time line thing too since it was summer already.
I was so glad to see RD win her first battle as DF. I was very worried with Zaphod back at the burrow babysitting and not on the battle field.I feel as long as Mitch is around even if Zaphod is gone they will be okay. I too was screaming at my TV for Axel to bark, LOL.
I really liked this episode, and look forward to watching the rest of this season.

The legacy episode... -I knew the intro change was coming from the UK spoiler thread, it still felt raw but a nice effort to make a connection between the audience and Rocket Dog while honoring Flower. -Rocket Dog has to earn her dominance with the viewer mob as she's earning it within her family and on the Kalahari. I like the fact that MM is showing us her growing pains. -LOL, I had not thought of initiating bad burrow moves as an inherited trait until Pronker's post. -I like how the AP featured Tosca and Mozart's offspring in the episode too. -Zaphod is us, the ones who are working hard but don't know how we will move forward yet....

Lump still in throat. Hard time writing with tears in eyes. So proud of Rocketdog, Sophie, Mitch, McMurphy and Zaphod. Still miss that Desert Flower SO much.
Zaphod needs a new mate. Lola was a dominate. Wonder what would happen if Lola and Zaphod get together. Start a new family, part Whiskers/part Zappa.
Overthrow Houdini and Punk?
Oust Rocketdog and become the leaders of the Whiskers?

Axl will become an asset to the Whiskers with Mitch as his mentor. It will be interesting to see the future battles with Zappa when he becomes a adult. A strange twist of events that will lead to an eventual fight with his true family.

Man, y'all know your meerkats! Hopefully I will get good at this with more experience. Rocket Dog was wonderful! and Zaphod. I'm wondering if far into the future, there might be a Liz/Axle combination.
Rocket did her mama proud. I wonder if Axle will ever think of the Zappas as enemies--they are his family, too.
I love the way some of them hold their little heads up when carrying pups.

Hi All, I didn't see the episode till today. I could see Zaphod bring Lola back and taking the power of the Wiskers back. What a pair Zaphod and Lola would be. I think Zaphod was running off the rovers because he's thinking no more kids right now. If RD is going to be a true leader, she doesn't need pups right now, too much else on her plate to take care of. Since Houdini and Punk are dominates now, I'm not sure he would go near the Whiskers females, but I guess he could. Loved Axle, he's sure a cute one. He couldn't learn from a better role model than Mitch. Wow Punk and Houdini sure got Punked.

I believe that rocked dog is going to do fine. Just remember who her mother was. (THE GREATEST LEADER OF THE DESERT) I’m hopping that Zaphod is going to find a new mate be happy again. Thank you animal Planet I hope that you will never take the show off the air. (THEY ARE FAMILY)

Your right. I don't think we have ever seen that particular trough before. Those watering holes get me to the edge of my seat just as much as any predator in the sky or grass. Waving my arms, talking to the TV screen Like a nut: "Danger! Go Back into the wild desert!" People and cows mean people and cow diseases

I read that Flower's death show was filmed January 27,07, so 5 weeks from that would be beginning of March. I wish I could find out how Liz is doing and the other pups of Flower's I just finished watching Journey's End again and there is a funny commercial for next weeks episode about Zaphod. Very cute. They do come up with some good ones.

All I have against the episode, is how everyone kept measuring Rocket Dog up next to Flower. Rocket Dog is young and inexperienced. She doesn't know any better on how to lead the group, and do fights.

Sophie was there...Daisy seemed older than Super Furry, so??????????????, but that could be AP's choice of meer actresses, Sophie was there....Rocket Dog did Flower and Youssy proud.
Sophie was there....

I don't have much confidence in Axel. He is named after the lead singer of Gun-N-Roses. You guys know how much Axel drops out of site. LOL Have they mentioned Nutmeg,Althena lately? I read somewhere that they change the names some times. There were two more in that group but I forgot their name, one started with an A and another one was another spice I think.

Among my thoughts on the episode, two points I haven't seen mentioned yet are that:
(1) It looked to me like Maybelline gave birth more recently than Daisy (& RD of course), so I can't fault Maybeline for being hesitant in the burrow move. Since the shot of her with her pups looked like the pups barely had hair yet, they must've been born so recently that Maybelline just couldn't fathom it.
(2) I hope that Zaphod isn't somehow blaming himself for Flower's death. Obviously such a thought is absurd, but he's been with Flower for 4 years, and we don't know how he's coping, so perhaps he's so serious about chasing off rovers now because he symbolically links the fact that she died after slipping away for an encounter with a rover (Houdini), and now he could be making it up to himself by making sure that no rover ever gets past him again.

Yo nutter
May/Monkulus defied her older sister's command and that is the first sign she's challenging her right to lead since she has pups and RD doesn't. It was a statement and Zaph knew there'd be a ruckus if he didn't help. He's also seen Yoyo cause chaos the same way starting and stopping a burrow move. It was Flower who'd take charge, so Zaph was showing the inexperienced RD how to get it going.
And the big star of next year if he makes it throught the winter should be the prince royal and last surviving pup of Flower's "Busta".

Well, I didn't read the spoiler this time so the replacement of Flower with Rocket Dog at the intro blindsided me. They have never changed the intro mid eason before. Immediatly sent me into tears. Think RD will do ok in the end, she's her mommas daughter. Poor Zaphod, he just looks lost. I feel so bad for him. All in all a good episode, but just not the same without Flower. Guess I need more time.

I also love the new commercial with Zaphod. I hope he does end up with Lola, he deserves to be happy.
