From Flower Power to Rocket Power, what a great episode. It was very interesting to watch RocketDog come into her own as the new leader of the Whiskers family. With timely help from Dad Zaphod the den move succeded with no pups lost and after initially running from the Zappas standing and fighting back. Not sure what RocketDog's future is as dominant female but she sure got off to a better start this time. Go RocketDog Kathy Portland OR

I think Pronker is correct about Rocket Dog's parents. From what I have read on the Whiskers' lineage (MM on Wikipedia) it is stated that Rocket Dog & Kinkajou are from the same litter of 12/6/03. Mozart, who is listed here on AP's Season 1 Family Tree (Meet the Meerkats) as daughter of Flower & Zaphod (along with siblings Tosca, Daisy, Shakespeare & Mitch), is Kinkajou's half-sister. I realize this would make Zaphod RD's uncle but as another poster mentioned, Yossarian was briefly the DM to Daisy's splinter-group DF and he was her uncle as well.

Rocketdog did a great job. She's young but she'll be a force to reckon with later.

Zaphod is playing the Grandfather role very well. It will be interesting to see how he will adjust. Will he become "Grandpa" by day and "Rico Suave" at night? That would be pretty funny.

I wonder though---Mitch is perfect dominant male material, why has he not set out on his own? Is he not old enough???

My, My history does repeat itself, a few short years ago, little mitch was following Shakes around and now Axel is idol-worshipping Mitch. Do you think they have developed a special bond since Mitch rescued Axel?

Some were asking about Flower's last litter and if they were still alive - that would be a spoiler of sorts - although there were a few others here - anyway - if you go onto the KMP site and check out the list of meerkats alive/born 2007 - you can see for yourself - supposedly between Daisy and Mabeline (MM names - not KMP names) they had 7 pups - and I never did hear how many Flower had before she died - but the time frame was pretty close - you will see a clump under the female Whiskers and male Whiskers - somewhere it is explained why there are different dates - but I count 7 - don't know which pups are whos pups so I guess I am really not much help here - he he -

this was truly a hard eposode to watch i missed my lovley flower so much i didn't even know if i could watch or not but im glad i did made me feel some better scence i have cryed all week over journys end i hope rocket dog can feel them big shoes she did good its just i think she may lack her mothers temper wich may come more to her later on but poor zapoid he realy broke my heart i know it want be the same as seeing him with flower but i want him to be happy so i wouldn't mind to see him hook up with lola i think they would be cute togther well goodnight all and god bless i love my little meerkats

I'm glad to see the Whiskers getting on after Flowers death. I miss her. Rocketdog kicks Butt!! Axel is so cute when he is with Mitch. I feel sorry for Zaphod. He really doesn't know what to do. I think he should go get Lola and start a new group. How about Axel and Rocketdog together. I liked when they had a closeup on Liz at the end of Journeys End. It gave me some hope. Meerkats are absolutley adorable!!! Take care!

Jennyjen: I totally agree. Zaphod looked so regal! And when I looked at his belly while he ws babysitting, I would have sworn he could be preggers! LOL!

I hope they will continue to follow his storyline and keep us posted on how he does. Poor guy definitely deserves to have another wonderful mate.

Sabakat - it is not very easy - Pronker and Youssy and some others are really good at that - you basicially have to match the birth dates as close as you can - KMP is working on a family tree which may take a while - that would be helpful because it should show all meerkats - not just the ones alive in 2007 and born in 2007 - There is a spoiler in the spoiler section about the book - that seems to help match some of the meerkat names too - maybe KMP will put out a list in the future - I am sure they get asked a lot of questions about who is who AP/KMP - that is why I think the family tree is in progress - so many asked who was who's pups and who was in the same litter and who was younger and older - so they started putting the tree together - for now just keep reading some of the posts - and make your own list - Pronker just figured out who Daisy really is and that was the big mystery - and as she says - dig dig dig -

I find myself very depressed when thinking of the meerkats. I know things live and die but this season just seems to be totally gut wrenching. I've watched from the beginning. There always seemed to be ups an downs but these days its just downs. I have considered not watching any longer because I do not feel like crying every Friday night. I know they have to show what happens and this is real life but if the show upsets me so much what has it done to some children out there? I will continue to watch and just hope that things start looking up soon. This family deserves some happy days.

I think this episode proves why only the DM and the DF can be the bilogical parents of the group, and also why pregnant subordinates are frequently kicked out. With a very rocky start, Rocket Dog has proved her mettle as a leader in fighting off the Zappas and in instigating a successful, albeit difficult burrow move. At firt I thought RD would be a washout. But no, she has her mother's genes. That is why only the strongest, the most intelligent, and the toughest are allowed to reproduce. However, everybody is responsbile for the pups' upbringing in a social context, so in that respect everybody is a parent.

I liked this episode a lot. I did not mind the constant comparisons to Flower's leadership skills. It just reminds us what it takes to be a successful leader. It's not easy & split second decisions could make or break a leader...and a gangs survival. Rocket Dog is young, she hopefully will learn from her mistakes. Looks like a new watering hole, smaller than the other one. Jogu taking an unexpected bath was funny. I felt empathy for Zaphod, but he still made his presence feel needed by babysitting & helping redirect the fiasco of a burrow move. Those pups were only 2 weeks old....yikes He did look out of sorts, almost scanning the horizon for Flower, like he still expected to see her again. He's used to being King, with his Queen by his side...*sigh* I hope Rocket Dog becomes as strong & powerful as Flower. She needs to lead the Whiskers into a new era!

Where did seven pups come from? Did some fellow come by to express his condolences and stay to offer comfort?

(I know - that probably doesn't work out in terms of gestation....I don't know how long it is....but I enjoyed thinking it.)

So it would seem that RD may not have a problem finding a suitable mate. Did I read a hint of who it will be, someplace?

I don't think this episode would go down as one of the more memorable... other than the fact that it's the first without Flower. Beyond that, there wasn't much new here. The burrow move, while interesting, is nothing new.

I think the most informative part of episode 9 is the changing role of Zaphod as the 'former' dominant male. And I suspect that many here are not going to like how that plays out. I think it's fairly evident from the setup in the show that ex-dominants don't really fit in... and aren't kept around in some kind way as we'd keep a widowed father or grandfather. And it was pretty clear from those creepy singing commercials that Zaphod is going to become the next roving romantic playboy. Did anyone else find those commercials just a bit odd or creepy?

Bottom line... I wasn't sure what to expect from MM this week. We have all been so caught up in the suspense (and dread) of Journey's End that it was difficult to look beyond that segment and look forward to the future. I think it may take a little time yet before we get that anticipation and hope back.

lol Tomb. Although I didn't find it creepy. I think it certainly made it seem like Zap is heading into the direction of being the local window peeper. Kinda like a grandpa or something that can't really do anything so he likes to look. Maybe that is where the squirrel comes in? It appears to me that there will be a lot of new MKs next season. I don't think that RD will be leader long. I love her but it looks like to me that nothing is wrote in ink on that one. I hope she remains on top because I already like her. I just hope I can remember she is a she and not a he.

This last episode and episode 2 are my favorites so far.
Finally Zaphod was given some time in the spotlight, he's been always been overshadowed by Flower, Mitch and, in seasons 1 and 2, by his brother Youssarian. In particular it was nice to see how he helped Rocket Dog with the burrow move when it turned into chaos.

I like Rocket Dog, I hope she stays as the leader for a long time; it's
going to be hard though, Maybelline seems to want the job badly and obviously
is not afraid of Rocket Dog at all.

I think that it was a little inappropriate to say "male looking for some tail" only because kids watch this show. Zaphod seems like the typical father who has a problem seeing his daughter with anyone. Maybe Frank will come back and be the DM. I do not know if he is related to the Whiskers, but remember he was booted out by Houdini. I thought that maybe Zaphod was upset because he was still hoping Flower would come back and he wanted to stay. Probably not the case..just a hopeful romantic. It will be interesting to see what happens...but I did already peek at the spoiler board.

katlady--thanks for the information. The weekend is almost here so I intend to use my free time to do a little "family research". I'm trying to stay out of the spoiler section--I'm already learning spoilers without even looking for them. Some of our younger members are posting spoilers in their topic thread....

While I have to agree that "a male looking for some tail", while amusing, was inappropriate to our younger viewers but I have to admit it did make me laugh.

I also agree that it was nice to get a better look into who Zaphod is. He has always been overshadowed by one kat or another. I think he is rather cute but I still miss YoYo like crazy! Have to admit I am glad that RD is more than likely our Youssey's pup. Hopefully, she will be like her dad and have some of his most adorable "quirks."

Anyone have any idea if Liz is Zaphod or Houdini's pup? Some have mentioned that she and Azel would make a good match. Not if she is from Houdini's and Fower's lil "Nightcap."

I also find it rather unlikely that Frank will be seen again and even if he is, he could not become RD's mate. If his younger brother out danced him, one on one, he would have little to no chance against the entire male whiskers force.
