I am sure I am not the only person who has come onto this forum with a plastic surgery nightmare, but I wanted to share just so that anybody considering a rhinoplasty knows they can get a very bad outcome with the wrong physician.
When I was 22, I had my first rhinoplasty by a doctor who shouldn't have been doing rhinoplasties, but the price was cheap, so I went for it. It was in conjunction with a septal surgery, so I assumed everything would be fine. I was wrong. My nose and my eye socket had been badly broken and I had developed a pollybeak deformity due to the surgery. I barely left the house for a year and a half, I was so ashamed of my appearance.
On television, I had seen a so-called "revisionist" in NYC who is currently under investigation by the state of NY for killing a woman in surgery. He took WAYYYY to much out of my nose, leaving me challenged in the looks department one again. I was crushed.
So I went in Chicago (hometown) where a doctor informed me a porex graft could fill in the missing pieces of my nose. This too, was a stupid mistake also. Not only ten years later is the graft breaking, you can SEE the graft break in my nose. Not only am I ugly after all this, I have opened up new dangers to myself.
I often wonder what is going to happen to myself once this breaks thru the skin. Will I die, get severly infected, or even more maimed and unattractive than I already am? Maybe all of the above?
I have already seen doctors about this dilemma. I have only found one who can fix this problem, but at the tune of 36000 dollars, which I have no means to come up with. Believe me, I would have had this horrible device removed if I could do so.
The reason I am telling this story is because I hope somebody out there does not make the mistake I have made and to make wise choices when it comes to plastic surgery.
With all the news going around now regarding Donda West and all, I think this issue is coming further into the light. I'm so sorry your experience was so horrible, meerkat, and I hope you somehow are able to correct what happened. Rhinoplasties are difficult jobs to begin with, let alone by someone who isn't qualified.
My experience went very well actually, and I believe there are definitely well-trained and sensible doctors out there who do great things.
I would like to advise everyone to make sure they find a board-certified plastic surgeon. Use abms.org as a source for that information.
There's also a nice website I just recently found called www.trustedsurgeons.com which checks for medical board records and malpractices as well, so check them out too since they're free.
