Hi there, I am hoping someone out there can help me. Over 3months ago I had my gall bladder removed and had multiple complications after. I have had total of 5 surgeries since. The last one I had my mid-abdomen was debrieded and I wore a VAC drain 24 hours a day for a month. Then 2 weeks ago I went back to the OR to have the large incision closed. I am healing quite well but have a horribly deformed abdomen that is flat on the right (due to the area being debrieded then closed) and a protruding left side. (No surgery at all on that side.) It is horrible to look at and is painful to wear pants because of the long scar and deformity. My plastic surgeon has mentioned he will take me back to the OR in about8 months to correct this but isn't sure my health insurance will cover this reconstruction. Can anyone help me? I don't think I should have to pay to correct something that is deformed as an end result of many infections and surgeries nor do I want to live with this. I am only 37 and in good physical shape with what use to be a good figure.
Your absolutely correct in believing that you should not have to pay for this; however, it is imperative that your doctor write a letter to your insurance company and advise the necessity of the add'l surgery. His letter should suffice and get you the needed surgery with your insurance company paying. But again, it falls back on your doctor to indicate that the surgery is medically necessary!!
