After the first Gulf War, many nations joined in to put out the oil well fires started by Iraqi forces in Kuwait. Most relied on techniques developed by Red Adair, but some employed other means. One in particular stands out. Polish or Russia(?)fire-fighters used a jet engine on a mobile platform to blow flames away from the the burning oil-well. I don't know if it was sucessful, but there may have been another reason for its use. Being portable and on the ground, it could be subjected to conditions that might otherwise cause a jet aircraft to crash. Experiments would have allowed them to see what effects, various conditions would have and how to minimize or maximize those effects in a real world environment.
