hey,I was wondering about the need for soldiers, in the field, in the future. Will soldiers be needed with all of the new robotics and smart machinery that will be available in the future? thanks

Well, unless you want to create 'Skynet', I'd say keeping humans in the decision chain is a must....

i dont think im thinking to far feched, the other day i seen a program on the military chanel that was all about the use of robots in battle. robotic planes, medics, tanks and more are already being tested. of course humans control them from a safe station but i mean will they need people to be inside the machines or on the feild in the future.

They are developing autonomous vehicles that can drive/navigate themselves, and I think the DARPA Challenge actually had a winner last year.

For the forseeable future I think there will have to be a human finger on the trigger of a weapon, but that line may blur.

yea within csrtain peramiers robots can do alot of things but there will need humans as engineers and programers so humans will always be important.

aslo like hackers are always getting into ppls computers other ppl could control them.

Hacking doesn't always work like in the movies. Usually hackers guess a password or get some fool to open an e-mail attachment. Or, rarely, overconfident programmers leave a hidden "back door" so they can get in if they forget their own password and a clever hacker can find the open door.

Cyber attacks normally disrupt/overload a system so it shuts down.

Wars cannot be won without "boots on the ground". I don't see this changing any time soon.

But they require a clueless user to open a malware attatchment or visit an insidious website with your browser security turned off. The user/programmer is the weak point, you can't force entry into a computer unless a human screws up.

The most highly prized skill of a hacker is "human engineering." Which is a polite, dignified name for lying, grifting, and conning.

There will always be a need for the Soldier or Marine on the ground. Machines can do alot but they do not have the human touch and many times it takes a human to do the things machines just can't do. No machine will go out of its way to protect some child who accidently found themselfs in the way of live fire. They haven't made a machine yet who can decide if someone is carrying weapons or who might need help. At one time they thought Soldiers and Sailors would no longer be needed because of the atom bomb. Nope big mistake still need them and they will probably be needed in the field for a good many years to come.

Because if a cyborg dies the man does too. Tne whole point of using robots is not to die.
