Mack, I am a disabled veteran that served for almost eleven years on active duty in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. While watching your show I came up with an idea that is not only very practical but could be implemented with little or no money spent on research and development due to the fact that we currently are using the technology.
My idea is to integrate a claymore mine into a hover-disc similar to a flying saucer that is remote controlled and that has video capabilities so that the person using the remote can see where he is flying the weapon. The resulting weapon would not drastically add to the combat load. The psychological deterrent along with the ability to produce mass casualties in the enemies ranks would make this an awesome offensive weapon in the hands of our soldiers.
Just imagine being able to fly the disc from behind a building or wall and be able to see the enemy who is shooting at you or into an encampment of the enemy and then being able to remotely detonate a claymore mine over their heads. I e-mailed the Dept. of Defense using a generic e-mail about the idea but don't know if it will be seen. If you guys know a better e-mail address to send the idea up to someone who could possibly make this happen it would be great. Even one life saved would be well worth any costs to implement this idea.
Any help and / or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
It is great that you are trying to help our brothers in arms. But realize something, UAVs are expensive to build. I don't know that it would be cost effective to build a UAV that you can only use once.
I really like your idea carmak, but honestly there is a bigger issue that needs research. We gotta find out some way to tackle IEDs. you know they are the number one killers of soldiers. i know you guys have the robots, but unfortunately the terrorists are clever and use idigenous methods and cause havoc. if we can get like a cheap UAV or UGV to move infront of convoys we can really help the men in greens
