I would like to talk about a subject the muscle car comunity avoids, 70's era muscle. Particularlly the third generation of everyone's favorite chevelle platform, the A body. 60's era A bodies are highly praised be they Chevelles, Monte Carlos, GSXs, 442s or GTOs. 70's era A bodies are mostly ignored.
Even though the 70's had there own unique A bodied muscle machines. Machines like Chevy's Monte Carlo and SS verisons of the Malibu or the largely ignored Laguna. Oldsmoble continued on with the 442 and its special Hurst models. Buick stayed in the game as well with the Century, 4 door 455 powered GranSport models, and even a take home version of their 1978 indy pace car.
The 70's era A body I personally take the most interest is the Pontiac LeMans. The GTO continued on under this platform until 75 and had the rare Super Duty 455 (SD-455) engine as an option. Pontiac also introduced the sporty Grand-Am under this platform as well. But the best of the best of the 70's era LeMans' is the 77 Can-Am. This limited edition model was produced for 1977 only. It combined the Trans-Am's 400cid power with the space and luxury of the LeMans. It also came with a Rally Handling Package with an Limited Slip Diff as well.
These cars have a uniqueness all their own and with the prices of 60's era A bodies skyrocketing, they might be the only option left for a project car.
