I know Dr. Goodall will be in Chicago for a conference on chimpanzee communication at Lincoln Park Zoo next March. I'm not a prefessional or student, but I'm planning to attend the public lecture.
I often wonder what Dr. Goodall thinks of Washoe the chimp & koko the gorilla (trained by Dr. Penny Patterson at the Gorilla Foundation), who have been taught to communicate with sign language. It's pretty amazing to see, and they obviously have the intelligence to have learned a new way of communicating with humans. On the Koko website, there is an amazing video clip of her former companion Michael signing about memories of seeing his mother killed in Africa. Speaks to the whole emotional intelligence of primates too!
