I see many people are concerned and want to help and learn of how to help, but most professors and universities, say " the best way to get into the field, is through volunteering." how can someone get into a volunteer position in stopping pet trade of wild animals, caring for primates, rescueing them, educating the public on these subjects, a majority of the public, does not hear about the wild on the news, it is all about us, what about the cows that feed us, they are treeated horribly and it is acceptable, for the stupidest reasons. I believe educating the publeic is the beggining, how should someone go about pursueing that? Confused

In order to educate the public you must educate your self. Talk to experts, read books and magazines, and go searching on the web. Become an expert your self. Make sure you get all sides of the stories. Why do people buy chimps, why do people give them up when they get older, why do people sell chimps. When you have all the facts you can start teaching. The best place to teach is schools. Depending on where you live you can contact your local AZA zoo and see if you can give a talk on the subject or even if you could set up an education table if they do not already have one. One thing to make sure of is tell people how they can help other then giving money.
Best of luck,
Emily
