I have lived in Louisiana all my life and never have I seen on like this before it landed on my husband hat,he knocked it off I was scared of it and stomped it I hope you can still make out what it is. http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j57/cajungirl28/P1010112.jpg
i might be able to help you if i knew how big it was. because the body shape looks right for a click beetle but i'm sure it is too big. it all dependes on size and shape of the body and head
Looks like a long-horned beetle. My first though was the Asian longhorn, but the wing covers look somewhat different, and there is no white on the antennae. 99% sure it's some kind of long-horn though.
no, i don't think it's a longhorn of any kind. for one thing the color is compleetly wrong, and besides the beetle looks too slender to fit the longhorn shape. it looks more like a sloder beetle but white instead of yellow, but i'm still not sure because it also appears to be about 4 or 5 times the size of the average solder beetle.
What made me think it's a longhorn was the long, thick, segmented antennae in the bottom of the picture. Longhorn beetles are remarcably variable in color, size and some shape. They range from rainbow irridescent to matte black. The massive antennae are not always indicative of a longhorn, as some dont have very "long horns" at all. Actually, as I was writing this, I found exactly what this guy is. It's a Cottonwood borer, Plectrodera scalator, and in the family Cerambycinae, or Longhorned beetles. They are harmless to people, aside from their often massive and strong jaws.
