I have been watching American Chopper since the beginning. I have a world of respect for Paul Sr. and just wanted to thank him.
He inspired me to build something and if you all don't mind I'd like to tell you about it.
I rode motorcycles for 25 years, loved them, rode all the time. 4 years ago my doctor found a giant tumor that went from my ear to my face. They took out, benign thank God, but the aftereffects cost me my ability to ride a motorcycle. Scar tissue messed up my ability to balance.
I was depressed and down and then one day I was watching the show, can't remember the exact episode but Paul Sr. yelled something to the effect of "Don't just think about it, Shut the hell up and build it."
That small statement seemed like it was directed at me. I have no mechanical, paint, body welding experience at all. I couldn't new trike and I missed riding my cycle so much I decided to build my own Trike (three wheeled motorcycle.) So I have started but it's what I am building it from that I think makes it awesome. I took a totalled 1978 Oldsmobile Toronado and chopped off the front and that's the drivetrain (front wheel drive V8). I am making a chopper front and full wrap around seats so I can ride and not have to worry about my balance.
The body will be themed after a 1800's Train engine complete with cowcatcher, steam whistle, brass bell and cockpit (where the engineer stands).
I will forward pictures once it starts shaping up and really like to show Paul Sr. what he inspired me to build someday, maybe our paths will cross. I sure hope so, he basically brought me back from a pretty dark place and inspired me to get off my #$%# and BUILD!
