I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I was wondering if anyone here had any news about Kamuniak, the lioness that adopted oryxs. The last I could find is that she adopted a fifth oryx calf and then went missing like 2 years ago, I think. Any news on what happened to Kamuniak after that, was she ever found?

Thanks.

Hi Virginia, believe it or not, it was only last night that I realised there was this beautiful lioness with a strange yet intriguing behaviour. After seeing the documentary by Saba Douglas-Hamiltion, I had to find more info on this lioness. Check out the website here for your a answer. I think she is up to her sixth calf adoption and has not yet been seen since Feb 04.http://www.lewa.org/oryx-lioness.php

I too am interested in what happened to kamunyak if any one has any recent info. The last sighting of her was in Feb. 2004.
It was such a beautiful yet sad story,I know nature shouldn't be interfered with, but i would have had to take Kamunyak and the 1st oryx to a reserve and feed them both and if necessary raise them together...

Who cares about interfering? Interfering is GOOD. Oh, by the way, that's not an opinion, that's a FACT.

i dint know, i heard she hasnt been seen for a few years. she is my main topic at this time. her actions have my full interest. sometime, i plan on going to africa and trying to find her. she has adopted 6 oryx calves, but the first she adopted was the longest. the rest died, or got back to their mothers.

I would love to have a film of kamunyak. already i have "heart of a lioness" recored on my DVR. ive watched it twice, and the ending always strikes me as frightening and yet sad. it pains me to hear the frightened calls of the calf as it is carried away by the male lion.

I spend alot of time in Samburu Was there early this year. Saw Kamunyak. The samburus say she has adopted up to 8 oryxs so far. when I saw her she looked very healthy but scarred. Unfortunately I only took not very good pictures with my mobile phone. Will be Samburu in the next two weeks and will look for her again.
