I was a Nuclear Mechanic in the Navy. Now I am a Mechanic at a Power Plant. I have Sky Dived, Bungee Jumped. I have taken many shop classes. I know how to weld, hammer, run electricity, shape metal and metal casting. I think i have proven i am not afraid of heights and that i have some mechanical ability and would be a better suited person for the show. Vote for Derek.
i like the sow, build it bigger quite a bit however i agree you would be a much better host. however almost anyone would be a better host than the 12 year old screaming girl who is now the host.
I don't think you guys get it. With a somewhat maladroit host, the guys who do the real work shine and the viewers get a chance to see how hard their work is to master. If the host were super skilled and adept, then he or she would be in a perpetual game of one-up-manship with the guys on the job. Let the workers be the experts -- not the host.
whats wrong with danny as the host? i think he's ok. im not saying that he is THE PERFECT DUDE for the job. but he does it with enthusiasm. although he doesnt sound that MANLY per se (watch the video where danny rides that rolercoaster, he screams like a girl), danny knows what to talk about (usually) and tries to do his best. i like that. im sure that u could be a better host (ur resume does sound really great), i like danny. The problem with Danny, is he states the obvious, and you hear the same line about 6 times from him...not to mention he treats us viewers like we are complete idiots.
Danny's problems stem from the fact that he's apparently frest out of engineering school and has never worked on an actual site, which any site man will tell you is not only unhonorable but is straight up dangerous. The fear of heights thing is obivous as well as dangerous not only to himself, his crew and the guest site he's visiting because you can see the sheer panic set in and that get's straight up ubcontrollable at a point.

It takes 10 seconds to see that Danny has never set foot on an actual site as a worker in his life. If on a job a site, the boss would consider him to be a risk until about month 6 or 8. Having a fear of heights is not only dangerous to him, but his crew and the guest site as fear manifests into panic. I was never in the Navy or a "Nuclear Engineer", for they don't have mechanics, nor did I bungee jump or sky dive while 30 years of heavy site construction, heavy equipment, rigging and heavy truck operation. I also got into Hazardous Materals and went to work out of Boston just in time for 9/11. While I wasn't personally onsite for our involvement in ground zero, shortly after 9/11 I along with others were assigned to the anthrax attacks on NBC and Tom Brokaw, the US Postal Buildings and the US Senate. Does these experiances make me qualified more than a bungee jumping Navy man, ( while I thank you for your service to this country and congratulate you on your DD214). With regards to the assumption of thinking that a skilled host would cause the guest to feel the pressure of being "one-up'd". That's silly to it's core, being to understand what the guest is saying easily (relitively) and then being able to translate that to the vewier in english compentely and not like some 4th grade degrading mock! Also keep inmind that being of "the industry" you'll only have a general idea of most of the topics because for example mine are on about 8 or 9 and the show will cover about 150+ industries it's more or less just the working theory. In the end it's the fact that the host will have the premonition that the tank is going to move and be loud and not scream like a girl when it happens. And not look like a fool when he's standing around 12 marines. Do you think they gave that size jump suit by accident??? Well in the end Discovery Channel is getting better with some shows and they'll get this one out, Danny's not a bad guy this just isn't his cup of tea, so to say???? Say Discovery AutoCad where you can take virtual tours of the designs and design your own, right danny???????? Joey Deady
Danny is not the best host I have to agree. He asks nothing informative on the Shanghai episode except "is this safe" "I am sacred" "can you believe how high I am".
I learned little from the show about how it was being built or any of the difficulties. The show seem to be more about how annoying an neurotic his personality. I would rather the show be more about the engineering behind these projects.
Danny must have some good connections to have gotten this job.
Danny is an excellent host! He is genuinely pleasurable with his geeky, yet sociable, approach. I particularly like the idea of him being “just a guy” and not the typically overtly intense and macho-ridden male television personality.
