This was my first time watching the show and this was one subject they were talking about. They totally missed the mark. This debate was poorly represented. They only had women on their panel that had had a c-section or had delivered naturally. In order to represent this subject properly, they should have had at least one person on the panel that had experienced BOTH! I have experienced both. I have three children. The first was born naturally. The second child had a complication with birth position and was born via c-section. I GLADLY elected to have my third child naturally by V-back. After having a child both ways, I know how much easier it is to deliver naturally than by an operation. Yes, you don't have to push out a baby for a couple of hours. Instead, you spend weeks recouperating. You can't enjoy your first day with your child because you have to wait for the anesthesia to wear off which takes a full 24 hours! I suffered nerve damage around the incision site. My stomach muscles suffered damage. I now have a little pooch from the scar tissue that will not go away with any amount of excercise. C-section recovery was horrible. When my doctor came in after the natural birth of my third child and asked how I was feeling, I told her I felt like a million bucks. No six week recovery. No being tied to the house because I couldn't drive. No being bed-ridden and not being able to take care of your precious newborn. Finally, they neglected to mention that you can "schedule" a vaginal delivery just as easily as you can schedule a c-section. My second child (who was meant to be born naturally) was a scheduled induction because my doctor was going on vacation. My third (naturally born) child was scheduled because there needed to be a full surgical staff on duty in the event of complication from the v-back. I am sad that many women could watch this show and not make an educated decision about a schedule c-section. Caesarean sections are not an easy fix to fears about labor or a fix for schedule conflicts.
