i am really thinking about this trip it is not a joke i want to go first i would want to be there for a couple of months want to start out with being bush planed in to the area i would take a canoe with 3 paddles (1 for backup) and a spike anchor to move around because of the glacial lakes and for fishing and if it is nice weather to sleep in on the lakes that are there i would take a good heavy knife about 7 inches long with a RAZOR sharp blade and the backside serrated i would take 3 magnesium flint sticks like the one he used in the canyon lands episode i would take a sleeping bag rated to 40 below a tarp 50 feet of rope some fishing gear nothing fancy just hook line and sinker (no pun intended)a hatchet and ax 3 pots (1) 1 quart, (1) 2 quart, (1) 3 quart with lids a multi tool and one of those hand held or a 1 gallon water purifier those kind you can use without chemicals or power

no matter how nice it is out
lakes are colder and not much fun to be sleeping in a canoe on one. unless you have lots of padding.
take i mag flint for emergences, and about 5 bic lighters unless your very clumsy the lighters will last your life time. and bring a 3rd lighting method. keep the bics on you tie the mag/flint into your pack and put your third method on the canoe. that way if you fall and lose your pack you dont lose them all. (tie your pack onto your canoe so if you capsize you dont loose it)
axe or hatchet i dont think you need both, a hatchet is of limited use really. the gerber mini axe with the knife in the handle looks small and useless but i like it for emergencys and it has a good small knife in the handle.(use silicone sealant to make the knife hard to get out of the handle then you will only use it in a dire emergency(take two knifes, one for beating on and general use one for backup.)
on the back of your axe of choice weld a spike on like a firemans axe all sorts of uses for that.

tarps are great but get a tent get 2 from walmart tarps are a lot less fun after a week of heavy rains and winds. so will the tent also but it will block the wind also. you dont have to use it but if your there 3 months you dont want to find out on week two that the tarp is just not cutting it.

shovel. mini or real i would go with a real one.
best way to build a shelter is dig down 3 or 4 feet then build up 3 or 4 feet. we are talking long term shelter not just something for a week.

big book of plants i can eat around here.
big book of animals in the area their tracks and habits.

you only need 1 pot, unless oyu have enough food to have 3 going at the same time..
now thats living.

4 ways to purify water. if your gong to be out that long. boil, pump, iodine and whatever

go to the doctor and get your shots for whatever you can. tetanus ect
sleeping bag.. use a multi bag system like the us army. really good over bag(bivy bag)heavy warm bag, med inside bag and a light liner.
think of it like layering your clothing. works the same way.
hand saw.
lot more fun to saw the wood for use than axe every piece and waste lots of it

nut
just a start

DUDE!!! A FAMILIAR FACE!! (so to speak)

I didn't visit the "regular" survivorman forums since about last May or so and I've tried going back for over a month now.

What happened? Where'd everybody go?
