Seriously, check around and you'll see a lot of your comments have already been touched on.Enjoy the debate whichever side you choose.
Yes,they do all that. You'd think they'd train a little more while en route to the whaling grounds or actually treat the volunteers as if they wanted them to return with the skills they learned while aboard.
I worked for a Chief like that in the Navy.If he liked you,he'd teach you how to be a Bosun's Mate.If he didn't because you didn't kiss his posterior to his satisfaction, you had to stick with book learning until you got out or transferred to another command.
That's not the way to do things. On a ship, you need to teach the new people how to do things in order to make things run as safely as possible and then to accomplish the mission.
They don't seem to have that attitude in MV Steve Irwin.
The prevailing attitude is that the officers don't lead from the front to avoid prosecution should they get caught by the long arm of the law,and the people actually doing the "attacks" are as disposable as Dixie cups. They'll run them off after a cruise and just have more volunteers waiting to take their place when they jump ship.
You'd think to keep members and supporters willing to go out and harass the whalers like they do,they'd treat them better.
I work on the river and do have somewhat of a "my way or the highway" attitude. If it is a matter of safety, yes,I am that way.It is too easy to get hurt or killed on any vessel to ignore safety the way they do on the MV Steve Irwin.

All their tactics consist of are pulling up next to the boat and throwing acid on the deck. Half the time they don't even make it on deck. If they had half a brain, they would load up the damn helicopter and have the pilot hover over the other ships and drop it that way. It would be alot more safer. Alot of their attempts are half assed and half cocked.
They don't have a standard operating procedure and don't seem to know what they are doing. It seems that everyone who is on board thought "hey! this looks like fun! lets get on a ship and fight some whalers!" And that is about all the planning they did.
