I watch the show alot and I have come to the opinion that all the people on board are nerds that have no strategies whatsoever.

All their tactics consist of are pulling up next to the boat and throwing acid on the deck. Half the time they don't even make it on deck. If they had half a brain, they would load up the damn helicopter and have the pilot hover over the other ships and drop it that way. It would be alot more safer. Alot of their attempts are half assed and half cocked.
They don't have a standard operating procedure and don't seem to know what they are doing. It seems that everyone who is on board thought "hey! this looks like fun! lets get on a ship and fight some whalers!" And that is about all the planning they did.

Rookie.
Seriously, check around and you'll see a lot of your comments have already been touched on.Enjoy the debate whichever side you choose.
Yes,they do all that. You'd think they'd train a little more while en route to the whaling grounds or actually treat the volunteers as if they wanted them to return with the skills they learned while aboard.
I worked for a Chief like that in the Navy.If he liked you,he'd teach you how to be a Bosun's Mate.If he didn't because you didn't kiss his posterior to his satisfaction, you had to stick with book learning until you got out or transferred to another command.
That's not the way to do things. On a ship, you need to teach the new people how to do things in order to make things run as safely as possible and then to accomplish the mission.
They don't seem to have that attitude in MV Steve Irwin.
The prevailing attitude is that the officers don't lead from the front to avoid prosecution should they get caught by the long arm of the law,and the people actually doing the "attacks" are as disposable as Dixie cups. They'll run them off after a cruise and just have more volunteers waiting to take their place when they jump ship.
You'd think to keep members and supporters willing to go out and harass the whalers like they do,they'd treat them better.
I work on the river and do have somewhat of a "my way or the highway" attitude. If it is a matter of safety, yes,I am that way.It is too easy to get hurt or killed on any vessel to ignore safety the way they do on the MV Steve Irwin.

You have to think about it from the SSCS's perspective. They don't have time to train or create SOP. Whales are DYING! So the SSCS must act now. Screw training. Screw common sense. Whales are DYING!

I tried to see things from their perspective but even my ex wouldn't think my head would fit that far up my ....
Even when a house is on fire,my old fire department would take the time to assess the situation and figure out how best to put the fire down, rescue the occupants and learn how the blaze started so as to avoid a reoccurrence.
Acting in haste only gets people hurt,as is amply shown every episode.

Guys, WhiteWhale is simply being ironic. No one with a tiny fraction of common sense says things like this.

Search helicopter drop on this forum and you will have your answer as to why the SS don't do this.

But why? SS are willing to die for whales? Why doe the pilot care so much for his license? Is a piece of paper is more valuable than whales' lives? Getting arrested for piracy and prosecuted, why are they worried about? They are willing to die, aren't they?

I have yet to see any SSCS crewman actually risk his life for a whale. Every show reminds me of Monty Python's "Search for the holy grail". They get all gung ho and It's "ATTACK!", but as soon as the $hit gets hairy it's "RUN AWAY!", and to say truthfully. People are more likely to give their lives than their liberty. No one wants to look at a long prison sentence. Those guys in prison would love a SSCS crewman, they would love them from dawn to dusk.

I was just pointing a new poster in the right direction, not stating my opinion on the matter.

Cool
