I had a daughter killed in an auto accident last fall and one of the injuries was a fractured hyoid bone. My understanding this is very hard to do. Does anyone have any comments on this?

Of course her husband who was driving and survided cannot remember anything prior to the accident. I am suspicious of the entire investigation as there were a couple of other injuries that I am having issues with.

I have a copy of the ME's report I would like Dr. G to review if possilbe. Please contact me.

The hyoid bone I think is in the neck. It can break when someone is strangled. where in this case her seat belt could have broken it.

A brokrn hyoid bone is Very hard to break. The most common way is through strangulation. I think i might be suspicious too.

Well im not dr.g but I have a few suspitions of my own. The hyoid bone is a u shaped bone that helps support the tongue in your neck. The bone is not attached to any thing, it just sort of sits there. The bone can break if someone has been strangled to death. I do not suspect that the car accident had broken her hyoid bone because the seat belt would have not have a lot of kinetic energy ( a HUGE IMPACT) to break that bone. You would have to have a lot of pressure on your neck to break it!!.. Her seat belt might have played a role... was there any marks on her neck, or blood shot eyes because if a person was strangled their eyes would have been blood shot, because it causes so much pressure that blood vessels in the eyes would have burst!! This is a suspicious case!

she was not wearing her seat belt and I did not have an opportunity to see her body personally. I do have autopsy photos coming but am not sure what they would show anyway.

Also, the vehicle was traveling they estimate at about 90-100 MPH at the time of the accident. It struck a vehicle that turned in front of them and then a building. I guess I should have given more details about the accident itself. Could that amount of force, since she was not wearing her seat belt and more than likely hit the airbag or dash caused the hyboid bone to fracture?
