THIS TOPIC WILL BE DISCUSSED IN PIECES SINCE HIS CASE IS ALMOST 4YRS OLD. MY SON WENT MISSING ON OCTOBER 13, 2003 IN LINCOLN NH. HE WAS VACATIONING WITH HIS FATHER STEPMOTHER AND TWO STEPBROTHERS. HE WENT TO CELEBRATE HIS TENTH B-DAY.
IT WAS THE LARGEST SEARCH IN NH HISTORY. MY SONS BODY WAS FOUND 2.2 MILES UP ON LOON MOUNTAIN. HE WAS FOUND 5 DAYS LATER. HE WAS PRESUMED LOST, BUT WE FEEL SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED UP THERE.
MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHY DIDN'T NH HAVE A MEDICAL EXAMINER GO TO THE SCENE? THIS WAS AN UNATTENDED DEATH AND MY SON WAS MISSING FOR FIVE DAYS???????
First off I'm sorry for your loss. But we both know he is in a much better place. I personally look at death as a promotion.
BUT as far as your question goes...and I'm not in the field just know some people who are this is my guess.
Some smaller counties cant afford nor have medical examiners. They have corners and their assistants. The corners will determine if the body needs to be sent to another county who has an medical examiner to perform an autopsy. It is the corner who documents the crime scene and reports it to the medical examiner. The corner is trained very similar to an medical investigator and medical examiner. I do not think that your son why denied a proper investigation but he did pass in a smaller community where they do not have the tools of a larger urban area.
If you do have questions regarding some of the specifics you can contact the corner and ask for a report - which is your right. But it might also bring back so many emotions that will regress your progress in the healing process. God knows your process of healing is a lifetime of work and tears but you can do it. Someday you will remember the smiles instead of the tears.
THE MEDICAL EXAMINER WAS UNAVAILABLE SO THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FISH AND GAME CONTACTED THE DEPUTY MEDICAL EXAMINER----SHE ASKED SOME ROUTINE QUESTIONS TO THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FISH AND GAME OFFICER VIA TELEPHONE. SHE ASKED HIM WHAT HE THOUGHT THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS AND HE SAID HYPOTHERMIA. MY SON WAS MISSING FOR FIVE DAYS AND THIS WAS AN UNATTENDED DEATH. THE CORONER, MEDICAL EXAMINER SHOULD OF WENT TO THE SCENE AND THEY DID NOT. THIS IS ONE OF NH BIG MISTAKES.
