Hi I'm new to low carbing love Blaine's show starting to try his wonderful recipes but was wondering what else for breakfast besides eggs any good ideas?
Atkins muffins are really good. Watch the carb counts because some are 2 and some are as high as 8 or 9. I like the Bannana best and at 3 carbs a muffin it makes a great breakfast. They are also really easy to make. Enjoy!
when i get sick of eggs i eat lunches for breakfast or leftovers from the night before. Or i have a good protein shake with a few berries. There is a great egg white protein at www.jayrobb.com only 1 carb per scoop. It is the perfect food and all amino acids. really good. I am allergic to soy so this helps me. also use it instead of the soy flour in the pie crust recipe. Dona
Their low-carb baking mix is unbelievably good, although I hear that the one they sell at Wal-mart (of all places) is really good, some say it's the best-tasting.
Of course breakfast meats and cheeses. I can also find low-carb yogurt in the regular grocery stores in the same section as the rest of the yogurt. When you get far enough along to up your carb count a little, there are a few slightly higher carb things you can add occasionally for variety. I actually like Special K's protein-variety cereal (has to be that one; the other special K is not low-carb) with carb countdown milk (now called calorie countdown in my area). Not many more carbs than the "low-carb" stuff but tastes better and is cheaper. You have to carefully monitor the portion size though. Also, toast made with "light" bread (< 6 net carbs per slice) can also be a splurge when you miss those breakfast carbs. An Amish market near my house sells Apple Butter made with spices but no sugar. If you can find something like it, this adds very few carbs and makes it a breakfast comfort food. I also can add small amounts of fruits at the lower-end of the carb spectrum (strawberries, watermelon or check a carb count book to check on fruit you like).
Carefully learn the carb levels your body likes before trying these though. My body realy likes the diet, so I can eat a little more carbs than some other people and keep in ketosis and dropping pounds.
I used Blaine's pancake recipe to make waffles and they were good! I make them for my weekend brunches! If you don't have a waffle maker go get one! Log Cabin makes a good sugarfree syrup and Smuckers has sugarfree toppings.
1/4 cup Bob's Redmill flax meal 1/2 cup boiling water 1-2 tbls peanut butter Davinci syrup to taste
Add the boiling water to the flax meal then add the peanut butter and stir until smooth Stir in Davinci to taste ( I like Vanilla or Hazlenut).
The possibilities for this cereal are endless. I add a handful of nuts and a pinch of sugar free coconut. Or you could try cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice, or sometimes I add canned pumpkin or a handful of berries.
about 2 carbs per bowl, depending on how much peanut butter and other items you add.
I have been a yo-yo low carb for the past 5 years, but was completely off for 2 years & gained 20 lbs....I have decided low carb is the only lifestyle for me to keep my weight down & be healthy, emotionally as well as physically.
Breakfasts: Work Days I love an Atkins Dark Chocolate Shake, I can take it in my car, or keep it in my desk drawer for a snack, I also heat it in the microwave on a cold morning!
On the weekends, I use a flat bread, whole grain 6 net carbs & make a BLT w/ mayo, or change it up & add an egg with it. I also use canned white chicken to make a chicken salad with mayo, dijon must & lettuce & wrap it.
Change it up so you don't start to dread breakfast!
