About 3 years ago, Ralph Pickersgill bought a 1965 Lemans parts car from Tennessee to add to his herd of what has now become 5 Goats. At the time he was working on a complete frame-off restoration of one of the Goats while another (still in its original paint) was his street car as well as his race car.
Rather than break parts on the numbers matching street car at the track, Ralph decided to turn the parts car into a racer. And the result? The '65 GTO clone in the photo was born last summer. Here are the particulars.
- 421 ci +.100 (436 ci) - 600 hp - Lenco 4-speed tranny - 4.33 12-bolt Mosier rear end - Edelbrock heads - Victor intake - MSD Digital-6 Ignition - Hayes aluminum fly wheel and plate - 1059 Dominator carb - Ultradyne Solid Lifter cam - Weld wheels - Phoenix slicks 1050-28.5-15
Ralph put a significant amount of work into the body to ensure the car is straight. He fabricated a fiberglass tilt front end and painted the new "Goat" a custom colour he aptly calls Elderberry.
The car launches wheels up and straight. Says Ralph, "I've always raced stick-shift ... the way God intended it." And when Ralph isn't working, you can see him doing just that most weekends during the summer, at St. Thomas or Grand Bend.
