I don't think I would be considered a hero, but more like a rescuer. In January of this year, my husband and I took our two Labrador sisters up to the northern part of our state to play in the snow. When we pulled into the parking lot of the campground we saw a little red tri-colored Australian Shepherd in the lot. We had just assumed she belonged to one of the many people there. We went on a hike through the snow and came back for a snack. As I gave our dogs some treats, the little Aussie came over to us. I gave her a treat and she took it hungrily. She came back for more and snarled at our dogs. I told her to go away and looked for her owners. I asked everyone there and she belonged to no one. So, against the husbands approval, I loaded her into the truck with the Labs and off we went. When we got home, I posted her on different rescue sited and could not find her owners (which I doubt would have been a good place to go back to- she was skinny and who could leave a dog in the cold snow?)and we could not find a new home for her. She now resides with us and our Labs. She absolutely loves them and they just adore her. As I tell people now, we have two 80lb lap dogs and one very appreciative 40lb guard dog.
