Hi! I'm a veterinarian in Sidney, Ohio (about 1 hour north of Dayton). I was recently asked to euthanize a 6 month old Pit Bull puppy because he was supposedly aggressive and had bitten the wife of his owner. When I saw the puppy, and how sweet and young he was, I had a very hard time believing this. I asked the owner if I could take him, work with him, and see if I could find him a new home. I've been able to determine that the supposed "aggression" and the bite were actually just over-the-top play biting. This puppy is NOT mean or aggressive! He is simply over-excitable and was untrained, and needs a lot of exercise and training which he is now getting.
Since I got him just over a week ago, I have gotten his vaccinations updated, he has been neutered, he is on a heartworm preventive (Interceptor), and flea/tick control (Frontline).
I have also been training him (I have been through a number of formal courses on canine behavior [including dealing with aggression] and training, as well as personal experience with my 2 Great Danes). In just this short time, he has learned sit, down, stay, wait, off, out, drop-it, and leave it. He is learning to not jump up on people or furniture. He is learning bite-inhibition, and that he is not allowed to grab things out of people's hands. He is not food aggressive or dog aggressive...in fact I think he would love another rough-and-tumble dog to play with...my Danes are a little too laid-back and lazy for him. He LOVES people...be prepared for lots of kisses and a lot of high-energy play from this guy! I'm not sure that he would do well with small children or cats, as he can get a litle rowdy, though he has done okay with my 4 year old daughter and my 2 cats under very careful supervision. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in adopting him, and helping to give Pit Bulls a better reputation, please contact me at cheytara@hotmail.com, or you can call me at the clinic Monday-Friday 9am-6pm....937-492-6106 (serious inquiries only!)
After all the work I'm putting into this dog, I am very determined to find him a home where he will not only be loved, but an owner that is responsible and dedicated to giving him the exercise, training, and attention that he needs to be a GREAT DOG! I will work with any potential adopter to help keep up with his training.
Oh, he is currently 6 months old, brown with white markings on his chest and the toes of one foot, and about 34 pounds. I don't think he's going to get much bigger....maybe 40-45 pounds maximum. I can send pictures by email if you're interested.

Please be very careful about who you place this baby with. I have been doing animal rescues for a while and when I place a dog I do a home inspection and I have the people sign a contract stating that if for any reason the animal does not work out, that they return it to me. I have all my rescues microchipped so if they end up at animal control or the humane society, I will get a call about the animal. I have been very lucky that all my animals have gotten great homes. You also have to watch out for people in other States trying to get a hold of the dogs too. There is some type of scam to get the dog along with some money. It's unknown what is done with the dogs once they reach their destination, but it is believed that that are sold to labs and even to dog fighting groups. I have had the same people try to get 2 dogs that I was looking for homes for. These dogs were offered months apart. I live in Florida and only advertised these dogs in my area, yet these people in Michagan were trying to get the dogs. Right now I have an Akita that I'm trying to place and if I can't do a home inspection and get a contract, then nobody gets her. I also make it very clear in my ads that my dogs will not be shipped any where.
