This is my first time, so don't really know what to do, or how to do it, but I'm sure everyone already knows, but what happened to Vern?-he was by far the best designer. And also, same thing, everyone already knows, but what happened to Paige?

Vern left Trading Spaces during Season 3, after his contract expired. You can check up on what he's been doing lately at his web site. http://www.vernyip.comTLC/Banyan decided they wanted to take the show in a new direction....without a host...and they let Paige go toward the end of Season 5. She's been doing various other things since then, including appearing in "Chicago" in different cities.

Stopped watching the show since Paige left. Just won't watch it without her. TLC/Trading Spaces made a big mistake by losing/firing her.

Too true. It's just flat now. I don't understand why they dumped Paige, but kept the Trading Spaces Family host. The show was much, much better with Paige. I watch it occasionally now, but it's always a disappointment.

I agree - Paige made a big difference in the show. I used to watch all the time, but now seldom do. I miss it!

Yes, I used to LOVE this show and now it is just the pits without Paige. I can't imagine what they were thinking. The rooms aren't as well designed with the new format and there's no fun not having to share a carpenter and double the budget. Is there any chance they can save this show? It was SO good and now it is SO wrong...

To tell the truth, I do not miss Paige at all. She started out alright but then her head got big. Her whining about how much she did every episode and how if she wasn't there the show would fall apart, was getting way too old. Her 15 minutes are long over as the way it should be. Vern on the other hand, I do miss. He has great talent as a designer and a wonderful personality. I would hire him, given the opportunity, in a NY minute!

I really miss Vern and his designs also. If Trading Spaces opened even more doors for him, all the power to him and I wish him the best. I agree that Trading Spaces is just not the same without Paige. She is very personable and seemed to have good chemistry with all of the cast. I enjoy the reruns and rarely watch the show now. The show does not seem to flow smoothly as it did before. At times, the conversation even seems forced. Like the old sayings go, "Don't mess with what works," and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Big mistake TLC. Big mistake.

I think the slippery slope started long before Paige left. Also, I think the designs are a bit better with the new format (go figure). Perhaps the designers (i.e. Hildi) have to share control with the HO, and the designer can't come to the table with a concept (i.e. feathers and hay on walls) that is ridiculous. It was getting to the point that HO were signing up for the experience rather than the renovation and some of the designers were not acting like a true designer.

As a fellow SMU alum, I tried very hard to warm to Paige, but she always made me a little crazy. She was too intrusive at times, or just cast to play one note: no more time, over budget, over and over again. She was either too perky to be tolerable or too shrewish. She never took the homeowners' side when a designer went for something ridiculous: hay, flowers and gold trim (bordello chic), cardboard ...
I know she's a talented singer, dancer, and actress and I truly believe her gifts are better showcased in those other venues.
