Hi, 21 years ago my mother suddenly died at the age of 42. I found her in the morning, I was 17. She looked as if she was sleeping but she had passed away during the night. The autopsy stated possible MI or arrythmia. I work in health care and know that this is not a solid answer to why she died. Can someone help me put her death to rest once and for all. Still mourning

diannawb- arrhythmia is when your heart beats irregularly. So basically it’s a type of heart attack. If she was asleep during this, than it’s most likely she didn’t suffer. 42 is young for this to happen, did she have a medical condition?

If she had an arrhythmia then it makes sense that she died suddely in the middle of the night.

An arrhythmia as cause of death is quite common. At autopsy. the M.E. can visually see many conditions that affect the heart, and what is seen at gross autopsy is backed up by histological (cellular) exam of the heart tissue. When neither of these gives a reason for death, as well as the rest of the autopsy is negative, the death is often attributed to an arryhthmia.
