I've noticed that when I tell people that I want to be an M.E. they have the strangest reactions. it's funny!
the faces they make. the things they say.
and I'm just like, "WHAT!?" because I don't get what so disturbing about it.
I told Dr.G about this once when we talked over the phone. She laughed and said that they say, "Huh? You do what now?" and that it's very funny! And I remembered what she said about the decomp cases, about how you smell afterwards. Lol. She laughed about that too.

But that reaction is something only a fellow Forensic Pathologist can understand. Lol.

Does anyone know what I mean?

lol my mother understood but like my friends... half of them didn't know what the heck a ME stood for so I have to explain. Then after that they are like "you want to cut up dead people...ok thats nice..." I guess you really don't understand unless you are coming from the perspective of where we are and where forensic pathologists are. But peoples reactions is kinda funny.

my friends didn't beleive me at first. one of my frinds was like "well that is so stupid i don't know know why anyone would ever chose that as their career. How sickening', and i was just like well you want tobe an acountant, how boring is that. all your going to be doing is sitting at a desk all day while im going to be contributing to society", that made her really mad and she hasn't said anything about since then and that was like six months ago. They just don't understand it like i do or know as much about it. I love the reactions i get from teachers though.

also i know there is more to being an accountant than just sittinmg at a desk all day she just made me mad. i don't want to offend anyone.

lol yeah my brothers always are teasing me about things and they sometimes come up to me and ask... "so sara, still want to cut up dead people?" I am like that is stupid when you say that, when people put it like that I think that it is rude and disrespectful to all forensic pathologists and all who want to go into the field. I mean yes that is the general thing you do, but there is greater purpose. Cadavers have been used for years to discover and help others with all the discoveries they find. So I hate it when people look down on you and say that is stupid or gross, I find forensics absolutely amazing.

I agree with you both! My brother who is a year younger the me says things like "cutting up, dead people is gross who would do such a thing like that". I am always telling him that its life, and its being rude to say that. Forensic patholoigsts are hear to tell us why people died, they want to help families and they dont think its gross, its not at all. Think about it! What would the world be like if there was no forensic pathologist existed. If our family memeber had passed away we would have never known what and how they died. Forensic pathology is really interesting and cool. I NEVER have looked at it as gross and I will never! and no matter what my friends say about how gross it is I just tell them to stop being rude. I AM GOING INTO THIS FIELD FOR SURE!! forensic pathology is not somthing to be discusted about, its life and I LOVE IT!!

And really, all the things that forensic pathologist do is cut out the organs and examine them. I mean it isn't that disgusting! We all have hearts and lungs and kidneys and a liver... everything. Some look better than others but still everything she is looking at is inside everyone so it isn't that gross. I mean people can be so dumb when they say that her job is disgusting and you are gross to even think about going into that profession. I find it absolutely amazing and you get to explore every organ and not be just dedicated to one.

it happened again! I went to a relative’s pampered chef party and one of her friends was blown away that I want to be an M.E. !
She kept asking me questions and she said "so do you have to get some kinda extra schooling to do this?" and I told her the requirements and her jaw dropped! lol.
well this all came up because I saw green knives in the magazine and I jokingly told my mom, "omg we could get those for Dr.G's new green morgue lol!"
and this person knew who Dr.G was and she was like, "WHAT!? You know Lindsay you're a little creepy, you know that right!?
and my aunt was like "well Lindsay IS a little...creepy!" lol. But it wasn't mean or anything! Just funny!

And then I found this old microscope in an antique shop and I the sales person didn’t understand why I wanted it. My mom said “She’s going to be an M.E.” and the lady was like, “OH!!! EWWW EWWW EWW!!!! Gone-a be looking at brains???” and my mom said, “well she likes the liver.” And the lady said, “Oh that’s EVEN WORSE!!!”
LOL.
*Sigh* life is funny when people know you want to be a Forensic Pathologist!

Well I want to be a coroner looooong ago, and I'm kind of proud with my wish, because I realy don't care about peole's apinion about things from wich they don't understand. Death is definitely a discusion wich people can't take... most of them so I don't realy hear what they say..

lol.. i got a microscope for christmas last year, and I LOVE IT!!!!! its soo cool! I love to look at blood under a microscope its really cool acually!!!.. my favorite organ in the human body is the heart, liver, and brain. In May we had a science fair, and I got 1st place for doing a project on the human body like I had to explain the digesive system, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system. I had to stand up in front of like 100 people and explain. It was really neat! Everyone was supried of how much I knew. Everyone asked questions and stuff like that, and I answered them all!.. At the end this lady came over to me, and she said " so your very interested in the human body are you". and I said yes "Im going to be a medical examiner". She was like "oh".. ewww really with a gross look, I was like yessiry!.. she gave me a dirty look. Peoples
expressions when you tell them you want to be a medical examiner are always different. Some people look like they are about to be sick, some people laugh, some people give you dirty looks. I DONT mind at all!.. Its fun to see their reactions

LOL and for us future Medical examiners we will be given dirty faces from people for the rest of out lives lol

Dr.T I believe you will graduate medical school.. you have to believe yourself that you can succeed.. Just say to yourself " I will get through medical school, and one day will be a medical examiner".. and if you do good, and study YOU WILL!!!

I got the same reaction when i told my friends and fam I want to be an embalmer. I finished the program got my degree and it awaiting to do an internship but now i want to work in the morgue, i don't get that reaction anymore they just call me Lynn from girlfriends. By the end of this coming fall i will hold two degrees and i am still not sure what i want to do. i plan to get a bachelors in biology, certificate in forensic and masters in social work.
when i tell ppl that dont kn me they began to ask a lot of questions. The main questions is "why you want to do that?" then they say "you will always have a job and they pay a lot of money"

I get that reatcion whenever i tell ANYONE!!! My friends and i where standing around talking and i said soemthing about the Y-incision. One of them (the snotty one) was like "sorry i can't talk to you about your future career, it's too freaky for me" Then another opne of my friends was like " I think it is cool! Do you learn stuff from watching it?" I was like yeah! And i started telling her about Chiari malformation, vasculitis, atherosclerosis, and heart arrhythmia's and her jaw dropped she thought it was like really cool. Then my other friend (the snotty one) asked me if it was my favotite show, cause she thinks it's stupid that i would watch stuff like that so young), and i said yeah and she was like i rest my case on the Freaky Thing!!!! People hardly ever offend me with what they say but if they do i just say " Well this job is important to society and we need Medical examiners!"

I've been thinking that people are afraid of deth because they don't udertand the non-material. What I'm traing ot say is that if they were more intelligent ( not that some people are not) they wont take deth so hard. And beside, normal people think of it as something unnatural...
