I got my brothers death cert and I want to understand what happened to him. Cause of death cardiac arrhythmia, accute amphetamine and methamphetamine intoxication. It also says ingested methamphetamine and amphetamine. Does this mean he overdosed on meth? Does this mean he ingested through his stomach? He died in front of his girlfriend in the morning. She says she didn't see him do any drugs. I'm trying to figure out if he did it the night before if it would have taken him that long to have a heart attach or if he had to of done it that morning and when it went through his stomach and into his blood stream that is when the heart attach happened. I guess understandin this will help me let go. Thanks so much. You really do a great service to help people through this very hard time.
If he took it by using a syringe I know that the meth instantly goes into the blood stream. This causes the body to react instantly as well so it would have speed up the heart and caused an arrhythmia and his heart would stop in some cases. But since he ingested it, it would take longer to get into the blood. Then the effects wouldn't be as quick but they would be the same.
I don't know if this helped you at all... but it seems like because he was slightly intoxicated with methamphetamine, which is a amphetamine that simulates the nervous system and the whole body because it goes into the blood, his heart probably failed because of the meth... so it sounds like it was complications to the heart due to the methamphetamines.

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your brother. Meth belongs to a group of drugs called CNS (central nervous system) stimulants, under the subtype amphetamine due to its chemical makeup. This drug reacts on brain chemicals that regulate organs such as the heart, lungs, and adrenal glands. being that it was absorbed via the stomach, the effects take longer, but in most cases can be more traumatic due to the complex metabolic processing/pathway. The drug stimulates serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine pathways in the hippocampus region of the brain. The culprit here would be the overproduction of norepinephrine and dopamine caused by the drug. These two neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) are responsible for regulating many things, from emotions, to your heartbeat. Toxicity of meth causes these chemicals to go into overdrive, causing erratic heartbeat (arythmia)Think of it as a cardiac arrest due to meth toxicity. although norepinepherine and its counterpart, epinepherine, can save you during cardiac arrest, too much of it, especially if caused by an unnatural source like meth, can kill you.
