I was always one of those people that had to motto of "outta sight, outta mind". I never gave a second thought as to where my trash was going or what it did once it got there. Then I watched Oprah one fateful day last year on "Earth Day"(a little ironic). That was a day that FOREVER changed my life. I never looked back at my "former life" again. I bought reuasable grocery bags, including ones for my produce, immediatley started buying organic foods, and purchased enviromentally friendly cleaners. We changed our light bulbs and started turning off the water while brushing our teeth. I also started teaching my two daughters about why it was important to be "Earth friendly", and what exactly that meant. The change was amazing!!! I NEVER in my seven yrs of being a mom thought I would enjoy hearing my girls fight, but when the fights changed to who was being MORE Earth friendly, and who was leaving the lights on,ect.. it was MUSIC to my ears!!! My fiance is a junk food lover, so changing him has been gradual, but successful. He bought "twinkies" one day at the store and gave one to each of the girls after dinner and said "Enjoy this once, cuz when your Mom finds out she will NEVER let you have another one!!" When he told me this I laughed and then agreed. I buy a healthier version of twinkies called "LuLu Bears" from Wal Mart. They have no added preservatives, ect...and my kids love them just as much!! It's amazing how I can taste preservatives in food now that I have been eating organic foods. My immediate family will buy organic groceries in small amounts when they know my kids will be coming over. I try to get in any Earth friendly gifts as well when possible. This year for Valentines Day I bought everyone reusable bags from Target. They were a HIT!! I watch every show that will increase my knowledge on being more aware, and try to read as much as I can on the internet or in books. There is soo much information available now and it is all because of people like you and me DEMANDING that it become more "main stream". Any change, no matter how big or small, will help our Earth become healthier and better place for everyone to live on. My family lives a "green" lifestyle every day and will NEVER live any other way!! Now we celebrate "Earth Day" as though it were just as big as any other holiday. Life in the "green" lane looks GOOD!!!!
