Hello Jennifer,

I have actually been a Melaleuca customer for since 9/2007. I really enjoy the products and the multiple ways to save are awesome. Did someone approach you to become a preferred customer, or was this something you discovered on your own? I would be more than happy to share info with you if you or anyone you know are interested in more details. Let me know Smile

Thanks,
Marcie

Personally, I stay away from them & recommend that u do also. They are definitely NOT all natural & do the typical "we can say we're natural/organic, but we're really not"! Roll Eyes

Take a look at one of their product labels online - you won't be able to pronounce half of the ingredients!

I do know that they pride themselves as being the best of science and nature. I have been with them for almost a year. I like the products and they have done things that other products have not. I am looking for a way to have safe products around my kids and do the things that they do for me at a lower cost. I want my family to be safe from all things that I can keep them safe from... My head is hurting because I don't know witch way to turn and what products to trust.

By saying "they pride themselves as being the best of science & nature" basically means nothing. I can say ANYTHING I want to convince you that my products are all natural, when they're actually not. There's NO oversight on this stuff, and about half of Melaleuca's nasty chemical ingredients have not even been tested for safety! And the ones that have are usually proven to cause ill effects, including terminal diseases! (Their products are really no better than the average drugstore brand. Compare the ingredients & see for yourself - the harmful ones are the same.)

Well, the good news is that I've done ALL the research for you guys...It took me a few years to learn about ingredients - which ones are good, which ones are not, and which companies truthfully are good & which ones try to pull a fast one over on you! (Melaleuca obviously being one of the latter.)

Good companies:

*Household cleaning prods:
Seventh Generation, Ecover, Sun & Earth
*Skin care prods:
Country Rose Soap Co, Greenridge Herbals, Terressentials, Dr. Bronner's

That's it, there you have it! Not a big list, huh?! There are a FEW (meaning, VERY few) others out there that I may not have listed, but as you can see the list is pretty small. That is b/c truly natural prods can't be preserved for infinite amounts of time, so it's difficult to run a natural business & secure a profit. It takes lots of creativity to not be able to mass produce items & have them sit forever until someone orders them (as I am learning now that I'm starting my own biz!!).

At the end of the day, organic products should cost a little more for the reasons I list above. The ingredients are more expensive & as I stated, you can't preserve them to infinity! Their shelf life is usually limited to 1 year, 2 years max!

Aquarius,

You are so right! I am stepping away from my mela business. I thought I was doing the right thing by being with them now I see I was wrong. Sad that it took me a year to get it that I went the wrong way. Frown They have everyone that is with them that their stuff is the only safe stuff out there. I should have known better. Chemicals are just that chemical and there is nothing safe about them.

Thank you Aguarius, for doing the research and are willing to share it with us. Smile

I have also stepped away from them after 5 years. I still purchase some things that I know are okay but not everything. I am an expert on natural health and products and do research for a living. Check things out for yourself before you believe anything anyone says. Their hearts are in the right place but they have a lot of ingredients to change to keep up with the "green" movement.

I just became a customer a couple monthes ago & noticed immediately a difference with using their products. Everything works great and I have done my research on ingredients finding nothing harmful (via web).

Ingredient Composition Becomes More Important as Organic Personal Care Product Market Evolves

Seventh Generation, Method and other leading personal care and cleaning brands may soon face lawsuits if they don't remove the word "organic" from their labeling and marketing by Sept. 1. The ultimatum comes following a recent investigation by the Organic Consumers Assn., which uncovered a potentially carcinogenic contaminant in various products.

The OCA investigated nearly 100 organic cosmetic, personal care and household cleaning formulas, and found that nearly 50% of them contain detectable levels of 1,4-dioxane, which is known to cause cancer in lab animals. None of the manufacturers disclosed this information on their labels, even though many had levels greater than 1,000 times the acceptable level.

The biggest offenders were the "natural" dish detergents, including Citrus Magic 100% Natural Dish Liquid, Earth Friendly Products Ultra Dishmate, Method Dish Naturally Derived Ultra Concentrate, Planet Ultra Dishwashing Liquid and Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid.

Method, San Francisco, refuted the study saying it never made the claim on labels that its products are natural or organic. "We state that our products are naturally-derived," said rep Katie Molinari.

The findings were released by the OCA, which is based in Washington, on Friday in Anaheim, Calif., at the Natural Products Expo West trade show.

David Steinman, a consumer advocate and author who directed the study, called the findings a wake-up call for the natural products industry: "To knowingly and unnecessarily put carcinogens into commerce in these modern times is cynical and barbaric. It betrays the public trust."

The brands will have to remove all "organic" branding and labeling from their packaging by Sept. 1. Manufacturers have until April 20 to agree to the terms, said Adam Eidinger, principal with Mintwood Media, Washington, a consulting firm that works with the OCA.

"If [manufacturers] do not comply, they will face a lawsuit accusing them of false and deceptive advertising and unfair and unlawful business practice under California law," Eidinger said. "No one is regulating natural claims and these carcinogens have cumulative effects on humans and the environment. Something needs to be done to create higher standards for these products."

The lawsuit will be filed on behalf of the national OCA, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, Escondido, Calif., and the regional Organic Consumers Assn. chapter in Little Marais, Minn.

While 1,4-dioxane is present in many conventional personal care products such as shampoos and body washes, as well as household cleaning products, the issue at hand has to do with mislabeling products that consumers deem organic and natural, which implies they are free of chemicals and harmful ingredients.

The OCA study also revealed that all products certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program were free of 1,4-dioxane. In order to receive the seal, 95% or more of the ingredients have to be organic. Brands found not to contain 1,4-dioxane include Burt's Bees, Clorox Green Works, Avalon Organics and Dr. Bronner's.

Unfortunately, there are numerous products out there that no, don't put everything on their labels making it harder for us the consumers to truly know what we are exposing ourselves to. At least with Melaleuca products I no longer get the headaches I used to and I have clothes that smell "clean" not chemically.

If anyone has info showing negative effects of Melaleucas products please enlighten me because I have only found articles like the above on other brands and I'm an equal opportunist when it comes to this type of critism.
