PLEASE JOIN ME IN TAKING THE LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION (www.livestrong.org) LIVESTRONG CHALLENGE

As a terminal, stage IV kidney cancer survivor, I started my first ever LIVESTRONG Challenge fundraiser (see www.TheTourDeLance.com) for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).

I started with a simple goal of raising $1,000 to support my fellow cancer survivors.

Later I decided that I wanted to raise enough money to support two LAF grant recipients and established a fundraising goal of $60,000.

I am encouraging friends, family and perfect strangers to make a tax-deductible donation to the LAF at www.TheTourDeLance.com and earn a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take a seven mile ride with Lance Armstrong in Austin, TX.

As background, the LIVESTRONG Challenge is the LAF's signature fundraising event. Last year this same fundraiser received donations of $10 million, or $1 for each cancer survivor in the United States, from people just like you and me.

Please go to www.livestrongchallenge.org and sign-up TODAY.

I’m a Stay-at-Home Dad that spends more time reading Hello, Fire Truck! and Go Dog, Go than The Wall Street Journal. More time looking for slow cooker recipes than potential donors for a non-profit cancer organization. In other words, if I can take the LIVESTRONG Challenge, so can you.

Even if you are brand new to fundraising, personal help is available. When you sign up at www.livestrongchallenge.org ask for a Mentor. An experienced and trained volunteer will follow-up and provide you with lots of fundraising ideas.

Finally, please watch the following LAF Manifesto video (turn up the volume on your computer) to see exactly how your involvement in the LIVESTRONG Challenge will make a difference…

Thanks and LIVESTRONG!

One more thing...

If you register for the LIVESTRONG Challenge (www.livestrongchallenge.org) on May 16th (LIVESTRONG Day) you will receive 1/2 off the $50 registration fee.

All you have to do is enter code LSDAY500 in the registration discount code box to receive the $25 discount.

Again, this is only if you register on May 16th.

Thanks!

My mother has IV kidney cancer that has moved to her vena cava, her lungs and her liver. It also moved to her spine. She was unable to get the kidney removed because of the tumor in her vena cava (too close to the heart). I was curious what medication, if any, you are taking. I have done as much research as I can and to be honest, I am not finding a whole lot on Kidney Caner. Any advise is greatly appreciated. I am her "caregiver" and I get as much information for her as I can.
thank you

Dear amyedmonds:

I'm sorry to hear that kidney cancer has also touched your family.

Please read my post (FREE CANCER SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE) on this message board and follow my instructions regarding the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Gilda's Club and ACOR.

You should also take a look at the Kidney Cancer Association website at http://kidneycancer.org/ and Steve Dunn's Kidney Cancer Page at http://cancerguide.org/kidney.html.

Finally, please e-mail me at gorskis@sbcglobal.net with your phone number.

I will call you and try to help you and your Mother.

Thanks!

P.S.- Please note that I had a rare form of kidney cancer called, sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (most people have clear cell). Therefore, the chemotherapy treatment I received probably is not right for your Mother.

Thank you very much for the information. It is very helpful. I guess I am feeling lost and not sure how to "deal" with everything. It is the first illness our family has really had to deal with and any communication with someone that knows seems to be very comforting. It doesn't matter if 1 person or over 10 million (Ted Kopels estimate on how many people have cancer) It makes it no easier when it's someone you love.

Okay, gang . . . here's a start. On the NBC Evening News last night, Brian Williams did a story on the LeRoy Butler Foundation for Breast Cancer. Butler was a long-time member of the Green Bay Packers and has started a non-profit organization that raises funds for cancer research AS WELL AS PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT for those that are ill. Visit www.leroybutlerfoundation.org for details on how to donate or how to apply for assistance.
