Awesome Idea because I don't think it's possible without wrecking the van (i.e. GREAT TV!). Near the end of Ocean's Eleven (modern), the crew detonates the "money" in the bags while inside a van sitting on the tarmac of an airport. A man is standing in close proximity to the van at the time of the explosion and the blast is strong enough to force both rear doors to fly open.

Here's the parameters of the myth for the Almighty Mythbusters:

Could a blast from the inside of a van force the rear doors open? Remember, in the movie, there is no outward damage to the van aside from the door being forced open, but remaining on the hinges. I would at least expect to see some blown out windows, but this would effect the pressure on the doors, thus they would not open. Myth busted?

Would the people around the van survive a blast with enough force to open the doors? Especially the man who was approaching the doors, at the time?

I'm sure there are some other angles to this myth that I have not considered yet, but as I write this, all I can think about is the Cement Truck...by far, my FAVORITE!!!

Thanks guys! You're awesome!!

For back door blown off: It can be possible if the lock is flimsy on the van door and the hinges are very strong.

For the people around the van: If it was a strong explosion then the people will likely be blown back and might not survive. But maybe the amount of explosives was enough to spook the cops Wink .

How come it seems there are thousands of movies with a car, truck, van, etc. getting blown up or has just enough explosives that only a small amount of damage done?
How much and what type of explosives was there? I didn't see Oceans Eleven.

They never really discussed what kind of explosives were used. The point in the movie was to blow the bags of "money", it wasn't money, and they got away with the real bags of money. I was just watching the movie and thought how perfect this myth would be to watch being replicated. This was a new van that they had purchased so everything is, presumably in decent condition. My point was that the windows would blow out in such an explosion which would release the pressure on the doors, leaving them closed. In reality, this kind of explosion should do massive damage to the van before the doors would fly open and if the explosion was able to force the doors open, the men standing nearby, or their Buster double, would be injured severely, if not killed.
