I am saddened, but not surprised by the cancellation. What disappoints me the most is that there was no big send off for the show that put TLC on the map. Frankly, I don't like the direction TLC is going and watch it very little. There are already far, far too many of the various real estate shows so those don't interest me for the most part - though I do occasionally watch Property Ladder or Moving Up. Also, I really am not interested in all the tabloid-esque stories - people with odd diseases etc. It just seems like exploitation rather than something educational or uplifting. I don't think TLC is living up the the Discovery brand. Just my two cents to a network that obviously doesn't care. I'll just leave my tv tuned to Discovery from now on.
I am so sad that TS is cancelled!!! It just started to get good again too. I liked Nancy, the new designer, and it seemed like it was a little less dramatic regarding the homeowners and their personal problems. This is a sad day. Goodbye all my TS friends, until we meet again.
This was the best show on TLC until all of the good designers started leaving and the format kept changing. Somebody at TLC really messed up. I'm sad!!! Oh well, guess nothing lasts forever. Besides, I'm sure they needed the time slot for "octuplet mom" or whatever new freak show they decided to put on next. Sorry, I know some people like these bizarre shows but I just can't, except Little People, I do like that one. Peace everybody and good-bye Trading Spaces!!!
I miss Trading Spaces, but it doesn't surprise me either that TLC cancelled it. It seems they are more interested in wearing out shows like Jon & Kate plus 8, Duggars, etc. The shows that attracted viewers to them in the first place are being pushed aside so they supposedly keep current and make money off the unusual. I also miss "Take Home Chef". They are supposedly called the LEARNING channel, but the new direction they have taken has nothing I care to learn or for my children to learn.
I remember first seeing Trading Spaces and how it did seem to exploit people, particularly Hildy and Doug would seem to take pleasure in wrecking some poor trusting homeowner's dream of a great room. I thought it was shock effect to get viewers and I guess it worked. Then later, they seemed to maybe really try to do a good job with the decorating and after that, the designers began to be switched off with new people. It just wasn't as fun. It seems like a lot of the originals have gone over to HGTV with their own shows. Maybe it will pick up TS when TLC dumps it but I think it will be a better show if it does survive if they do two things: have stability with the designers they use, and at least try to do a nice decorating job and not exploit the homeowners with something obviously crappy and just for shock entertainment effect. And lastly, there will always be reruns....
I am sad also that TS is canceled. I used to look forward to Saturday nights to watch this show. I was very excited when it came back with Paige and what I thought was the original show. I was disappointed with the new format, as far as trying to fix relationships. I was a loyal viewer and I was hanging in watching and hoping someone would realize they needed to go back to their roots. They almost had it. Paige was back, some of the designers, the 2 days for $1000. Adding the sappy relationship thing just didn't make it the fun old TS. I don't have any reason to watch this channel anymore. Doug is great and I hope he goes to HGTV, so I can watch him.
I too am upset that they have canceled Trading Spaces. It is one of the only reasons I watched TLC. While there are a few new shows on that are okay, Trading Spaces was my favorite. I actually started watching TLC again because of it. Looks like I won't any more.
I'm disappointed in TS' cancellation but agree with most of the postings above. The show was sometimes depressing when they talked about the relationships. It was no longer a decorating show - what happened to "The Learning Channel"? I'll especially miss seeing Frank as he was my favorite designer. Check out Signature HomeStyles.com for great decorating ideas from Frank.
I am SOOOOO disappointed with TLC now. Trading Spaces was awesome. It was entertaining and informative!! The ones on now like John & Kate Plus 8, The Roloffs etc ~ It used to be about their health, and how they struggled. Now, it is all about all the things they can buy because of the show etc. I feel it is time to give more families the opportunity. It is not all about the competiveness of buying everything. I am so tired of it, while everyone else is struggling ~ they are competing on how many new things they can buy.
This is it for me and TLC. I used to love this channel. I started to watch it for trading Spaces but lately it has gone steadily downhill. The only redeeming show for me left is What not to Wear, but I may even give that one up as disgusted as I am with TLC!!
I stopped watching so long ago and am not surprised by the cancellation. The show started rotating in hack designers who cared nothing about the homeowners or viewers looking for practical inspiration. If I wanted drama I could tune into any of the reality shows over-saturating the airwaves. I was looking for excellent design ideas... there was so little of this left on the show as it had become overshadowed by the over the top designers' egos.
Did they seriously have two people come into the bedroom and strip naked for the homeowners to draw for wall art? Are you kidding me? No wonder this show has been cancelled!
One question why?? am with everyone No need to watch TLC, I do not need to watch Kate yell at Jon anymore, and see them get everything who cares? TLC has gone down hill, enough bring Paige and the gang back I got great ideas from that show. and if you cancel What not to Wear I would really never watch TLC!
I just came on to see when we could expect new episodes. I thought all was well now. There was all the excitement of Paige being back and everything. It was almost back to normal even though many of the old gang we loved had moved on. But we still had a few of our "old friends" and, best of all, Paige was back. And they made a big deal of it. We were all happy again. I was even coming to like Lauren because she was much tamer on the episodes with Paige. (The first season, you couldn't even hear anything anyone was saying because they had to keep bleeping her!) Then what did they do about 6 episodes? Now it's gone! I have waited patiently and finally decided to check. On the home page, it still says "Paige is back!" I started watching TLC because of Trading Spaces. I even stayed with it when it got stupid and then when it got really stupid. I started to lose interest when it got really, really, really stupid!!! And then all was well (except for the people who were gone) - Paige was back and the show was returning to its roots! I am very, very disappointed. I like Moving Up, but when was the last time they made a new episode of that? Take Home Chef and Take Home Handyman were good shows, then they changed then so instead of picking people up at the supermarket or Home Depot, they changed the format of both shows so people sent in a video and they picked from those. And now where are those shows? I used to love Saturday nights. I would so look forward to getting all comfy and watching Trading Spaces. At least now I can look forward to Saturdays again. I watch The Locator and John Edward on WE! But isn't TLC supposed to stand for The Learning Channel? What are they teaching us now? How to dress little girls up like 22 year olds and parade them in front of judges? I guess that teaches them something - that you are worthless if you aren't gorgeous!
I enjoy Jon and Kate and hope they will be back. And I have come to enjoy watching the Roloffs and the Duggars. And I still love What Not To Wear and Say Yes to the Dress. So, folks, you can probably kiss those shows good bye, too. Because any good shows they have, they don't keep! Or the manage to screw up somehow! There really doesn't seem to be a lot of "learning" going on any more, though. I now spend a lot more time watching The Style Network and WE and and even the TV Guide channel comes out ahead of TLC now!
I cannot Beleive this!! I just came up to see if anyone knew when it was going to come back to Saturday Night programming?? I NEVER come to sites like this that often! I do love most of TLC's shows as well, But, I thought they were finally getting this one STRAIGHT?? I was really enjoying it again to! You were Finally getting some knew people, and still kept some of the old Designer's as well! What is there to watch now that will teach us about our home decor and how to do a lot of Different things?? I used to watch A LOT of the prorams they have got rid of as well! In a Fix I Loved that one! GONE! Now, I'm just waiting for them to cancell some of the cute family reality shows like you are! For some strange reason they seem to cancell the shows I alway's love the most?? lol Must be me huh? Look at what they are showing tonight for programming!! I am LIVID about it! That's how I came up here to start with! Who's going to watch Dateline stories of Murder and Violence for enjoyment? Not me? I want something to make me smile and feel good inside! Not that S_it! I complained about it! lol I've never done that anywhere! lol I am just SICK and TIRED of them flipping around and switching around all the weekend shows!! Friday night seems to be secure for Now! lol Let's hope so! They still need to do a bit more work with tonight's shows, But, Theyr'e getting there! That Bus one where peolpe have 15 minutes to look at these Incredible homes for BIG Discounts! First time home owners is also very cute! My youngest son (29) is buying his first home with his wife and my new Grandson to! She's also pregnant again now! My husband just passed away in Jan 11 2009, so wer'e all a bit sad right now! That's why I REALLY needed to see some GREAT programming tonight!! I wish Trading Spaces wasn't being Cancelled though, Damn it! It was on for a very long time to! Good Luck 'Trying" to find something even close to it again TLC! Clean house and a few other's on style channel are getting my vote for now! Take Care, Teresa PS: I LOVE almost every single show you mentioned in your post here! GREAT minds think alike ya know? lol I am in COMPLETE agreement with you about that Beauty pagent for Babies!! I will NOT even give them one moment of my time when that show is on! I turn it so damn fast! Thier Mother's should be SHOT for what thier doing to those babies! Ahhhhh! I HATE THAT Crapola!
Seriously, what happened to TLC Saturday night programming? It used to be a staple with programs like, "My First Home," "Property Ladder" and "Trading Spaces."
Now it's just nothing.
Is anybody still watching?
I'm not.

I was just wondering what happened to Saturday night TLC programming as well. T L C stands for THE LEARNING CHANNEL...I guess I learned how stupid is as stupid does from them. How many 48 Hours Mysteries and Dateline reruns must we endure? If anything, I have learned how to commit a murder and not make the same mistakes any of those morons who got caught did. I don't care to see human oddities exploited or families living day to day doing things they'd not normally do except for the camera trained on their every action. I can't stand watching Kate belittle Jon nor can I stand watching little people catapult pumpkins and nearly getting killed in the process. To answer t-stormicon's question...NO! I am not!
I too am amazingly sad NOT ONLY about the loss of Trading Spaces (and the wonderful Paige Davis), but also like others have said about the loss of the WONDERFUL Saturday Night Programming. It used to be that those of us with younger kids (who could not go out) would find entertainment and comfort in Trading Spaces, Property Ladder, etc. It was wonderful. Now it is all shot .
Why? I truly cannot believe the current Saturday night fare garners huge ratings.

Eventhough I am an older viewer I can still see the forest (money) through the trees. Apparently TLC has a new vision as to what appeals to the mass media. While I am not interested in Choppers,Tatoos, programs of families overpopulating the country & exploiting toddlers, I do enjoy any show involving home improvement which TEACHES people to become self sufficent & try new projects to improve the largest assest they have. Trading Spaces was my favorite show since the beginning & I was a faithful viewer. The show REALLY tanked when they removed the host (Paige) & relied on homeowners & designers to carry the dialogue. It fell even further when the original designers started leaving & TLC tried to showcase a variety of questionable talent. I do not blame any designer for furthering their own interest & moving on. I still watch Doug,Ty,Vern,Carter,Genevive, etc. whenever I can. Thank heavens for HGTV. My new favorite tv channel. I'm aware change is inevitable, but it's only welcomed if the replacement surpasses the original. TLC (in my opinion) has missed the mark---big time!
I just saw the worst episode of trading spaces...and I love the show. It is the Los Angeles:North Cherokee Ave. one. It was downright cruel. I felt so sorry for those guys. They turned their warm room into a cold white disaster and called it a makeover. I thought it was totally uncalled for and I sure hope that someone helped them to fix it. It was on the early morning 11/20/09 show.
