On April 14th 1988 my ship struck a mine while on duty in the Persian Gulf. Our survival never ceases to amaze myself or my shipmates. By all rights our ship should have sunk. We fought fires, shored bulkheads and pumped spaces as we fought to stay afloat. Our story is one of many that often goes untold. The travails of the Forrestal, Enterprise, Liberty, Pueblo, Stark are some others that come to mind. Sitting on a ship while others fight around you is far more dangerous than people think. It is something that never leaves us. Unfortunately most of these stories are lost. We are trying to tell ours. If you have a similiar story checkout www.nohigherhonor.com. Perhaps it will inspire you and your shipmates to tell your story.
