I've read ewbray1s tales of flying missions in Viet Nam, good stuff. I'm glad he included some humor, that's what I like to remember about my time over there. I was with the 25th EOD team stationed in An Khe, we were flying most every day. For some reason the pilots would push the limits of thier birds to see if we would say something. They would look back at us and we would just smile. Try to control your bowels when some WO1 makes his Huey do a hammerhead stall or drops it like a rock( auto-rotation). Great bunch of guys really, we got together many times for beers ect. One day we were driving a jeep to Quin Yon (sp), our jeeps were hard to miss, bright red fenders are not the best camo. A chopper passes overhead going the same way we were going and then we see it coming back, I guess they recognized us. They had dropped to about 5 feet off the deck, coming right at us, at about 50 feet away we could see the pilots grinning ear to ear, perhaps it was the beer in the mermite can that we used for a center consol, whatever, I stayed straight, one of the skids hit and broke our antenna. It sure could of been worse. The next day there was a case of steaks at our hooch, proper payment for the antenna. Never told them that our Momma san had to work overtime to get the stains out.
